A Few Levels I Think Are Worth Playing (updated 1/30/09)

Archive: 42 posts

Edit: I have edited this post to include a list of all the levels I've recommended. It is at the bottom of the first post. For more detailed descriptions of these levels, please read the rest of the posts in this thread, and read the two posts in my blog that preceded this thread

Hi, I have come across a few levels before they fixed cool levels that I think are worth playing. Now, I have different tastes than the rest of you, but these levels have caught my attention for some reason or another.

Here is my list of my levels that I think need more plays, complete with pictures and descriptions:
http://www.kappacino.com/wordpress/?p=342
http://www.kappacino.com/wordpress/?p=382

There are a few other levels I'd also like to recommend that are not in these lists:

PSN: Teebonesy
LEVEL: Anti-LBC1: A Very Sony Christmas
This level didn't make the playstation contest to get that crown, so that's why it's "anti-lbc1", but it's a pretty nice level! great sense of humor.

PSN: Teebonesy
LEVEL: the Movies
This level is one of those levels that you just have to play to see. It is very artistic and definitely worth a try!

PSN: Mikey-Flies
LEVEL: I forget what all of his levels are called, but search for his username. He has some fun mini-games, including one where you fly a red baron plane. Very neat and well put together. Search for his PSN, though and you should be good.

PSN: Nathan_Duder
LEVEL: Adventures in LaLa land
You have to play this person's first level to get the key to the second one. The second one is really where it's at. It's a loooong level with some pretty crazy creatures. All in all though, it's pretty brilliant. Stick to it to the end, and you'll fight a really neat boss.

PSN: Pirate_Hat
LEVEL: The Crazy World of Chutes
This level is one of those levels that is supposed to look bad because of what it's about. It has a really silly sense of humor and I had a few laugh out loud moments while playing it. Give this one a try if you're into that.

PSN: Dimo1138
LEVEL(s): Robo Rampage 1, 2, and 3
This is a very megamanish series, but it's got some pretty good platforming. If you like mega man games, you'll enjoy the little references to them in these levels.

PSN: MooshyWooshy
PSN: The Veebie-Tech factory
Very neat lighting effects with some pretty challenging platforming. Really an outstanding level though!

If anyone has any trouble finding any of these levels, search for me, xkappax, and go to my hearted levels, because I've given each of these a heart.

I hope you guys enjoy these.

yeah, Mikey-Flies' levels are really pretty great. Come to think of it, I had fun playing most of his levels. The level where you race the snow speeder things is also pretty great!

As far as my enthusiasm goes about the levels, I feel absolutely terrible when I see that someone has put effort into something and it has 64 plays and 2 hearts. Meanwhile some levels that look like crap have 80,000 plays because they say super mario in the title.

That level by doodlebats (Hero Adventure) is an example. That level isn't polished, it's not long, and it's not perfect, but it makes me laugh my head off every time I play it.

He has a hungry hungry hippos level that lags because of how many points are in it, but it actually feels like you're playing that game. Fun with two people if you can overlook the lag. I usually can as long as there are no obstacles to avoid. ^_^

anyway, i'm glad this list was appreciated!

xkappax,

Thanks for providing some gems that you have found. I'll get to these levels over the coming long Christmas weekend and provide feedback accordingly.

Also, I have provided you some feedback regarding you Centralia level (really good stuff you created).

Again, thanks for the recommended levels.

Sincerely,

Yeah I know what you mean, its kind of ridiculous what gets put on the front pages, a lot of uncreative remakes as well as some creative ones. But just about everything on the front page is a remake/vehicle level.

There are a few more that are worth playing, but now that cool levels is somewhat fixed, good levels aren't as hard to find.

Here's a few more.

Tomb of Light by Marynor
This is currently my favorite level. This level has just the right mix of everything in my opinion, and there's a very indiana-jones-ish portion at the end. And there is a "holy #$%&" moment in the middle of it that left me wondering "how the heck did he do this?" for quite some time. I tend to like levels in caves with ghosts and creepy atmosphere, so this level is definitely at the top of the list for me. (there are no ghosts, but the atmosphere is enough in this one to make it outstanding)

You'll have to forgive me for this next one... I don't know who made it.
It's called Distress in the Ocean
There is a picture of a shark as the icon. I'm pretty sure it's on the front page of cool levels. There are also a bunch of japanese characters in the title. If you have trouble finding it, again, search for me and go to my hearted levels. This level is a normal platformer not without it's share of problems. In fact, there's one area with rotating squids that I think needs tons of work. All that aside, this level has one of the best boss battles that I've ever encountered in my entire life. Play this! NOW!

Robo-Rampage X by Dimo 1138
Another one in his series, but this one actually has the feel of a Mega Man sort of game. This is the first level I've seen that makes very good use of the paintinator. The level doesn't take itself too seriously, but at the same time has really artistic level design and very good use of the metal gear solid pack. This level is very hard, and the one boss is a little random, but if you like a challenge, if you like mega man like games, and if you like the paintinator, give this a go!

Re-Color by ZX497
This is the second Anti-Color. I think it's better than the first one. I don't know if you guys know about Anti-Color, but the moderators of little big planet took it down for using a glitch, which is really quite terrible! I don't know how long this one is going to be up, but this level is like anti-color with bosses! There are a few paintinator areas in this level, too. Definitely worth a shot if you liked the first one.

i'm sorry I dont' have that many this time, but I'll get a few more later. Hope you guys enjoy these for now!

Okay, I have come across two more I'd like to share with you. These are both by GruntosUK:

Subterranean Sackboy Blues:
When I first played this level, I thought he was using a template. He wasn't though. This is a very nice looking level that seems modeled after the story levels. there are very many secrets and sticker switches in this, but they don't win you dumb prizes, they win you prize bubbles. I love levels that are caverns, but I think I would have loved this if it was a giant robotic toilet, because it's a really nice looking level!

I am not in front of my playstation right now, but his second level is even better than his first. It's called something like From Siberia with Love ... forgive me for not being able to recall the exact name.

This is one of the most professional looking levels that I've ever seen. It's a story level, but not with so much text that it's annoying. It makes really good use of the materials, and every portion of this level was put together with a purpose. The flow of the level is nigh perfect. Definitely give this one a go when you get a chance!

Anyway, that's all for now. I hope you enjoy these two that I've found.

Hey, xKappax! I made it here in one piece! Thanks for telling folks about my levels, that was very nice of you but don't forget about ROBO-RAMPAGE X, the best of the bunch. Plus it's got THE PAINTINATOR!!

Edit button FTW! My bad, didn't see that you had already mentioned X. Thanks again!

All right guys, I played a few more tonight. Here are some of my findings.

Seeing Red by Maraz_Matari
This level is your standard silhouette level, but from what I've heard, there's something like 8 different bosses you can get at the end. Also, it's got the paintinator. We all love the paintinator, right? Seriously though, this level is a lot of fun, and it's got tons of replay value, considering the boss you get at the end is apparently random.

Super Sackboy Bros. by Ciao_PSN
I have to admit that I don't like to promote levels that are based on video games, because I really like to showcase original levels. However, I have to put this one in here, because of all the crappy thrown together mario levels I've come across, it's refreshing to finally see an amazing looking one. This person, Ciao_PSN has a few original levels too. They say they're zelda themed, but they're really loosely zelda themed if you ask me. Anyway, they're worth checking out I think.

Jack McSetback and the Spikey Stone of Doom by Wyth
This is another Indiana Jones type level. I put this one here because of how well the mechanics work in this level. It's a very well put together level if you ask me, and although it has a lot of hearts, it probably deserves more.

this next one might be hard to find, because the title is in japanese... its called something like Ruins 2.2 or something like that.
The psn is DrDhio.
I played this level on a whim, and honestly, I was pretty impressed. This level is gorgeous looking, has some pretty cute little baddies, and has a really awesome boss that reminds me of the bad guy in the youtube video Adventure Time. Aesthetically this is a rather beautiful level.

Anyway, that's all I've got for now. Unless you want to play a level made by a 9 year old that makes me fall on the floor laughing every time. If you do, try The Death Punch by Avatar_of_Chaos (the guy who did Oculynth). It's not by him, it's by his little brother, and for a 9 year old, it's pretty hilarious.
----

EDIT - 1/12/09
All right, i came across a lot more levels, but double posting is a no-no on these forums, so i'm editing this one. Here goes.

Bipolar Negatives by ZX497
This is the next in his Simplicity series. This is by the guy who did anti-color and re-color. I'll be honest, this level is rather hectic looking, but beautiful at the same time. And if you are a fan of Ikaruga, you've got to stick it through to the end to see the boss!

LB House by Luther420
This level is very empty for those of you who like platforming and blowing stuff up. But this is a very nice recreation of a house. You can pretty much interact with everything, too. We knocked over all the chairs and pushed the books off of the book shelf. Nothing is glued down, because, let's face it, in a real house, it wouldn't be. This level is also complete with a ghost in the attic and a basement that I couldn't figure out how to get into.

Wiggler World and Wiggler World 2 by TheWiggler
These are amusement park levels. I have a few friends from england, germany and canada that I hang out with in little big planet, and I have to say that this is a very good "hanging out with friends and taking pictures" level. The rollercoasters are VERY well made, especially in the second one.

Dark Coaster is another really good roller coaster level, but I cannot remember the PSN for the life of me. If you do try to search for this one, I have to warn you, it's creepy as heck!

A Letter of Invitation from Kazuchiyo by Kazu_chiyo
This level is adorable. It's got sumo chickens, and more sumo chickens. No, in all honesty, it's really a nice, cute level. If you like cutesy anime stuff, this is the level for you.

Fast Food Shop L by Kazu_chiyo
All right, this level is AMAZING. You pretty much walk through a fast food shop, but of course, you are miniature. You have to avoid fountain soda, getting thrown in the trash, and the deep fryer! You even get to make your own burger. This creator has a lot of talent, (as witnessed by me recommending two of their levels!) so check it out!

Little Big West by Punchy 3
I thought this level was really cute. It's just a wild west adventure. You get to go to a rodeo, and there are some silly wanted posters around. I think there might have been an awesome vehicle in this level too, but at the moment I am drawing a blank, and I apologize. It's late, and I'm tired.

Aqua by natuneko
If you haven't seen or heard of this level, this is a must play. It's a bit frustrating, I'll be honest, and it's definitely a one player experience, but what an experience it is! Stick it out to the end, there are some of the most beautiful lighting effects I've ever seen. Also, this person has several levels that are part of a series. I recommend playing them all, because they are brilliant.

Robo Rampage X2 by Dimo1138
Well, Dimo's done it again with his ridiculously hard series of Mega Man like levels. I still can't make it through them all the way because I'm terrible at video games, but I got the farthest in this one. He makes great use of the paintinator and his enemies are really cool, so if you like a challenge, this is for you (and his level's aren't STUPID hard. they're challenging. I have to clear that up)

Ruins in the Dark by o-tera
This was just a really nice ruins level. That's all there is to it. I think you will really like the artistic style, so go and play it!

The Scary Factory Overlooking The Small Village by geosautus
All right, so this guy's popular. And I should be promoting small time levels. But this guy deserves it. This level is amazing. The town is done in one style, the factory in another, and somehow they meld together perfectly. There is a vehicle ride at the end of this that is probably one of the coolest vehicle rides that i've ever experienced. This guy has a million hearts, but give him more. He's a good creator.

Dragon in Snow by rattletrap
I can't believe I almost forgot to include this one here. I was picking random levels with one of my friends, and this masterpiece came up. It's just a basic ice level until you get to the end, where you fight the most uber dragon that I think I've ever seen in my entire life! Seriously, I know I say this a lot, but stick this one out till the end, and get ready to give this level the BOSS tag!

Legend of Sakda 2 by DimGradation
This is a recreation of the second dungeon in Zelda 2 (i think it's the second dungeon). Anyway, it's rather well done. The level itself feels massive. I had a heck of a time with the boss, but other than that, this level is definitely worth checking out if you liked zelda 2 in any way shape or form.

Hea Ven Hell can be Fun by Emufire
This level is not a pretty level. It uses mostly cardboard and dissolve material. But the mechanics in this level are so well thought out that I can overlook that. And i HATE dissolve material. This guy really has gotten the shaft with his level, and he needs more plays, because it is really good!

Afraid of the Dark by Spartan2023
This level is the creepiest level that I've ever played, and the ending is PRICELESS. If you have not tried this one yet, please do! It's horrifying! I don't want to give anything else away about this creepfest!

That's all I've got for now, guys. I promise I'll have more at a later date. Enjoy these levels!

All right, guys, here's a few new ones.

Torn By Darkness - Stampy83
I was forced at gunpoint to play this level, and boy am I glad I was. Just kidding. Actually, this person had requested that I try it, and it was amazing! This is not a platforming masterpiece by any means, but what it is is a work of art. If you like artsy levels, I definitely recommend you check this out. There are areas that one might consider too dark, but that's the point with this level. Darkness is uncertainty. And you enter it not knowing what to expect.

Japanese Horror House by Sushidon
I'll be honest. The only reason that this level is here is that I love kappas. And boy oh boy does this level have kappas! It has a pretty cool kappa boss and a really weird kappa head that will shoot you right into electricity if you're not careful. If you are at all a fan of kappas or japanese youkai, please check this one out.

Prism Prison Lv 1 by Aardsy
Holy moly did a lot of work go into this level. This is one of those levels where the person left their switches visible so you could see how complex it is. You pretty much have to do various color mixing puzzles to escape this prism prison. It's a very in depth level. I sorta found this one by accident too, by reading the comments to our level. Check this out, it is really complex!

Sack and the Snow Queen by GURA
Holy moly! This level is BEAUTIFUL! I .... I don't even know what else to say about this level. It's... just beautiful! Play it! For the love of crimeny, play it!

The House In Victoria Woods by GSUSram
Okay, okay, so this is a friend's level. And he's young, and I have to say that for someone as young as this kid is, he did a pretty darned good job. You start out in a town with these very creepy people. Then you go through a forest and then into a haunted house. Something about t his level really really creeps me out. If you like the creepy stuff, by all means, check this one out. Like I said, it was done by a younger individual, and for someone of his age, it is rather impressive.

Great list! Also thanks so much for kicking off your list with my little pair o' levels.

I haven't been able to play as much lately as I'd like, during the day I'm working and during the night my girlfriend's playing Oblivion. (curse you Obliviooon!)

The LittleBigDuty levels by Fusionboxer are quite cool, and also sport one of the greatest names possible in the long line of Little-Big-Names.

all right, I have a minor update today. I made a thread just for this level, but just in case you miss it, I'm posting it here too. I have been watching this person's level come together since November 6th. While everyone else had two or three levels out, this person was still working on the first section of their level. And yes, he's a friend who lives 45 minutes away from me, but honest to goodness, if he were a stranger I would promote this level just as much.

The level is called The Seal of Silvraen: Shadows of An Ancient Era
PSN: VMethos

The beginning of the level is a throwback to an old video game. After this silly section, you enter a temple with an indiana jones feel to it. Then you go through each of the elements. While the first two elements are impressive, the water section is where it's at. This level achieves the only really successful waterfall I've ever seen.

Anyway, this level's thermometer is full to the top, to the point where not even another sticker can be added. I playtested this last night with him to try to break things, and it was just a wonderful visual experience.

Please support his hard work, because this level is so much better than the Ramps and the Cat Races out there! This level needs a million billion plays! Enjoy!

Here are some images that I took last night, if you still don't believe me:

You're doing a great job man, i'll be playing some of these levels shortly.

Btw, you might want to make the title of each level Bold

In an unprecedented turn of events, I have found another level today that I cannot wait a week to recommend. In an even more unprecedented turn of events, it's a music level. Now, now, I know what you're saying... Ugh, you just sit in a car and listen to a song. This level is different than any music level I've seen thus far. This is a visual masterpiece. The song is from Howl's Moving Castle, which I have never seen, but I don't even feel you have to to enjoy this level. The girl who made it is german, so please forgive me if i get this title wrong:

Das wandelnde schlo? ~ Howl's Moving Castle ~ Theme Music Level by Cutiekabukichan

You'd probably be best served just to search for her name...

Anyway, please support this wonderful musical experience. This girl has two other masterpieces, and they don't have very many plays at all!

I actually have another one! This is ridiculous! I was going to wait till monday and do a big bulk "here are a bunch of levels" deal... but I just played another RIDICULOUS level.

Fantasy Forest by Nattura
This is the most visually pleasing level that I have ever played. While VMethos's level is beautiful, this level is beautiful in a different way. I can't explain it any other way, but you just have to see it. The ladybugs and spiders are particularly well done. If there were a "freakin' lovely" tag, this level would get it!

Afraid of the Dark by Spartan2023
This level is the creepiest level that I've ever played, and the ending is PRICELESS. If you have not tried this one yet, please do! It's horrifying! I don't want to give anything else away about this creepfest!
Oh yes. I played this level a while back and have always tried to play it when my friends are in my pod. It's insanely hard with that many people, but I wanted them to play it. It's good until you get to the elevator, then it turns awesome.

Yeah, that afraid of the dark level is awesome. I actually had forgotten about that one until I was going through my hearted levels a little while ago. Then I remembered the ending and had to post it here.

anyway, here are a few more levels. I didn't play too many ridiculously good ones this week, but I guess last week made up for that considering I was playing awesome level after awesome level every day!

PSN: II_C_E_M_A_N
Level: Legends of the Hidden Temple Entire Show

I am a fan of the television show Legends of the Hidden Temple. I don't know if there have been other people who tried to recreate the experience of the show, but this one has it down, right to the shrine of the silver monkey. If you liked that show as a kid, or if you've watched it on Nick Games and Sports, then you surely can appreciate this level.

PSN: urbandevill
Level: Maya's Labyrinth

I found this level in a comment that was left to my friend VMethos on his level. Someone mentioned something about waterfalls, and I had to check it out. This was a really cool level! The waterfall effect was achieved BEAUTIFULLY in this level. I love seeing the creative ways people get around not having water to work with in this game! Give this one a go, it was a pretty nice looking level.

PSN T0BSn08
Level: Tick Tock Clock episode 1

I played this level a long time ago. A really long time ago. This was one of the first levels that I've ever played. I went to my hearted page today and was surprised at how few hearts and plays this level had. This is a nice looking, clock themed level. It's very well done, and has a cool giant clock at the end!

That's all I'm going to do this week, because as I stated earlier, I really haven't played that many great ones recently.

I do want to share this with everyone though. I was browsing around levels, and I searched for "kappa" because I like kappas, and my levels came up, but another level came up that had the kappa sticker prize that I gave away as the prize in centralia as it's badge. I was intrigued, so I went over to it.

The level was called "karl the kappa's execution part 1" ... and I got really upset! Why would someone want to kill karl the kappa!? I played the level and it was a template level, and for some reason you fought pyramid head and you got him as a prize, too, but as you entered the level, there was my poor little plush Karl Kappa, the evil dictator! I seriously started rolling on the floor laughing. Of all the things I gave away in that level, for someone to not only use that, but to base an entire level around it, is hilarious to me. So, Catiers, VMethos and I went in and stickered the original sticker all over this person's level and then took a picture

Seriously, though, I don't know if I should be flattered or upset that these people were executing poor little Karl!

Anyway, sorry for that little diversion, but I promise that I shall have more levels as soon as I'm able! Thanks for reading, everyone!

The legend of the hidden temple level is pretty neat. Didn't fully remember the show until I played the level, which should go to show you how well it was done if it could fully jog my memory. I mean, it wasn't an absolutely mind-blowing level, but the creator definitely succeeded in doing what he set out to do. which, I guess, is all that really matters.2009-01-29 17:38:00

thats what i was thinking, he did a good job but i just keept thinking about how i could make it better. I was disappointed at his olmec, i thought he woudlve made him a lot more epic....but oh well he put the time into making it and i dont really feel like it so kudos to him

OMG I tried it yesterday evening and WOW. Ok this level really is looking good. I mean, extremely good. It's amongst the best i've seen and i've seen MANY.

No problem. It's really my pleasure to share with me levels that I think are really worth playing. Speaking of which, I played possibly the most horrifying level that I've ever played in my entire life last night. It's the only level that I played in lbp that I can say legitimately scared me. Like the way the playing resident evil with the lights off scared me back in the days of ps1.

PSN: Veraegic
Level: Untenated

This level is very nice looking. Granted, his stairs are a bit annoying, but he says right in the description to have patience with them, and it is well worth it if you do. Seriously, this level scared the living bejeepers out of me. Especially the part with the guy by the television. You'll know what I mean when you get there! Enjoy!

Woot, yeah! I found "The Untenanted" A few weeks ago, and boy, it really does give you the shivers. It's the only level I have played so far that had any kind of psychological effect on me. My GF wanted to go to bed but I made her stay up until I was finished. I told her it was because I wanted her to see the level, but really, I was bordering on scared! The end was a little bit of a let down, but it's forgivable because the rest is just so good. You got good taste xKappax!

thanks, dimo.

and sorry guys, that I haven't posted any levels this week. I have been furiously working on my next (and final) serious level. That's not to say I won't do more silly levels, but this game is killing me and I need it to stop doing that.

I promise that as soon as the new level is done, I will return with more recommendedy levely goodness. see you all soon!

I think I will follow your model xKappax.

In my thread I was putting pictures with my level suggestions but seriously, I really I cannot give that much time to the update of such thread. I think I will simply mention the levels like you do.

As you can see it's also been quite a while I didn't update mine, I guess shouldn't worry too much about your updates either. The environnement of the game is more friendly now with people used to the system and using the new search function. I also realised that even If i pimp levels in my threads, they barely reach 300-500 plays for the most part. It does give them a boost (some would have stayed under 50 plays really) but I don't feel it's rewarding all that much. I already have to put so much energy into pimping my own levels it's not even funny anymore.

Anyhow, keep up your good work, don't put pressure on yourself.
