Cool Levels - Level Showcase
Archive: 13 posts
I don't know if it's just me, but it seems that putting a level thread into the Cool Levels section of the Level Showcase seems to be detrimental. From the looks of things, less people look into that area for levels. Just look at the replies the levels in that section have. Some on the first page haven't had a reply for a week! Whereas, on the main Level Showcase section, it's just a matter of hours. | 2011-08-17 13:13:00 Author: Ali_Star ![]() Posts: 4085 |
I'd agree. | 2011-08-17 14:09:00 Author: CYMBOL ![]() Posts: 1230 |
I'm guilty of not visiting the cool levels thread. When I go into the level showcase thread, I'll look up there and see if anything new is showing, 9/10 it's not so I usually don't enter. | 2011-08-17 14:56:00 Author: biorogue ![]() Posts: 8424 |
Hm... Level threads gets automatically moved from the Levels Showcase section to the Cool Levels section only when they reach 20 posts. You can't start a thread in the Cool Levels section. And if your thread reaches the Cool Level section, it means that it has already got a bunch of replies. | 2011-08-17 19:31:00 Author: OmegaSlayer ![]() Posts: 5112 |
The whole point of the level showcase is to allow new levels to be noticed so most people look at the main forum mostly. Though some threads get so many replies so quickly it may be moved to cool levels in a matter of hours. | 2011-08-17 20:39:00 Author: tanrockstan34 ![]() Posts: 1076 |
Like most of the people said, your level got a lots of attention, now lets other levels get that chance. | 2011-08-17 20:44:00 Author: Sport_dude ![]() Posts: 622 |
In my opinion, it's like "Congratulations, your level is cool/good enough to have reached 20 replies. Now we'll move it to the Cool Pages for it to die a slow and painfull death. You've had your cake, and you've eaten it." I don't think 20 is a particularly large amount either. Half of those posts probably come from the author him/herself, so that's only 10 replies from other people. Hardly enough to be considered cool, is it? | 2011-08-17 20:53:00 Author: Ali_Star ![]() Posts: 4085 |
Well. TBH Ive seen good levels getting no replies in Level Showcase. Whereas people who have for example : 1000 plays on their level and 40 replies. Shouldnt they get less of a spotlight as its obvious they got the result they were looking for. However back in the level showcase a level equally as good 1 play, 0 replies. Because people dont like the sound of the level. Shouldnt we be promoting the new level coming in, in the showcase. That way more people know more about more new good levels. To summarize. A new level gets put in an easily visible section for people to notice. When it gets the publicity it deserves it gets replaced by another new potencialy great level. I understand good levels deserve plays heart and yays. But we will see less great level if we dont promote new levels more. | 2011-08-17 20:54:00 Author: craigmond ![]() Posts: 2426 |
Well, my last level is in the cool pages. Has been for a few weeks. But 39 plays hardly merits the "cool" tag, does it? Maybe a level should be put in the cool pages when it reaches a certain number of plays, say 100.... maybe 200 perhaps? | 2011-08-17 21:03:00 Author: Ali_Star ![]() Posts: 4085 |
Nvm, what cartman said! | 2011-08-18 02:07:00 Author: Sport_dude ![]() Posts: 622 |

And if your thread reaches the Cool Level section, it means that it has already got a bunch of replies. Exactly. If your level has already gotten a lot of attention, we move it into Cool Levels so there's additional room for other new levels. It may get less attention once in Cool Levels, but that's part of the point. We want to cull out as much great content as we can, so we shift the "cream of the crop" to another forum to make room for new content. | 2011-08-18 09:11:00 Author: ConfusedCartman ![]() Posts: 3729 |

In theory, it's possible that a level could have 20 replies, with half being from the creator, and only have 10 plays in total. Maybe it seems like I'm bitter because my levels have done so poorly. That's true to an extent. My last level was just starting to gain a few more plays, then I reached 20 replies... then it died. I do agree that levels which have gained a lot of attention should move aside to give other levels a chance. Perhaps the number of replies needed could be increased? Say to 30 or 40? Just a suggestion. | 2011-08-18 12:14:00 Author: Ali_Star ![]() Posts: 4085 |

Just a suggestion. Not all levels experience a falloff of activity like yours did. Most levels earn at least four or five new replies. Certain levels sometimes even double or triple their reply count after being shifted. This occurs for two reasons: one, your potential audience is much smaller in Cool Levels; and, two, you're competing on another level entirely. There's a density of quality content in Cool Levels that just doesn't exist in the Level Showcase, which means the bar is set higher. That doesn't mean every level that gets shifted to Cool Levels loses its popularity - it just means it's harder to earn attention. That's intentional. We have to cull out the quality/relevant/etc stuff somehow. | 2011-08-18 18:59:00 Author: ConfusedCartman ![]() Posts: 3729 |
