Having a platform move up and stop at a specific point + Flying characters

Archive: 17 posts

I've wasted hours tonight trying to figure this out. Here's the deal: I have a level where you start on an isolated platform, but when you move to the right edge, a cinematic is triggered where a character comes up to you on a levitating platform that stops when it reaches the same height as your platform and stays there permanently. The trouble is that I can't get the platform to stop.

Here's the set up, with the entrance on the taller platform and the robot character and platform I want to come up.

I have a gyroscope to keep the platform steady with the robot and players on it, and a mover with the up/down movement at about 5 and left/right off.

Finally, here's the cutscene sequencer. The idea is for the last shot to be the trigger (hence the battery) for the platform to come up.

The odd thing is that eventually, the robot's platform gets close to the top, then stops on its' own and plummets back down. I need to find a way to make it stop at a specific point while it rises and stay there.

And another movement-related issue I want to figure out early before I get to it: I have some characters who fly around. How do I get them to fly in more than one direction (ie making turns instead of going in a straight line), as well as stop in midair for a specific period and then move again?

Use a tag follower instead of a mover

I put a tag above the platform and a follower set to follow it with up-down movement on the platform, but nothing's happening. Tried giving the follower a battery too.

that's complicated,

1: put a controllinator inside the sackbot
2: connect the advanced mover to the outputs of the left stick
3: connect tag sensors to the inputs of the left stick(with a direction cobimer) so u have 4 tag sensors | up, down, left, right
4: attach a sequencer to a separate microchip (you can make it follow the sackbot if u want)
5: put tags on the sequencer in the sequence that u want it to go.

OPTIONAL:
to make it go different speeds
0: MAKE SURE THE TAG SENSORS ARE ON SPEED SCALE
1:use batteries in the sequencer
2: link the batteries to the appropriate tags
3: adjust the batteries to a percent that you want (this will be the percent of the advanced mover speed)

Make sure the follower is in range, unglued and strong enough to lift the platform.

I can't find a way to increase its strength. There's an acceleration setting under the Strength subtitle, but it doesn't go past 100%.

Try increasing the speed

Already up to 100.

Then its not the followers fault. Try rebuilding2011-08-17 05:19:00

How about in stead of using movers you use a piston instead? I know, it's so LBP1, but they still work. Plus, they're stiff by default now! 2011-08-17 09:29:00

Yeh, a piston seems the obvious solution. Or activate an anti-grav switch on the platform.2011-08-17 12:08:00

Activate an anti-grav tweaker with dampening set to 100% when you want it to stop if you're having trouble with any other method.2011-08-17 14:10:00

+1 for the piston, they were made for things like this. It should do the job perfectly.2011-08-17 18:12:00

Indeed. Sounds like exactly the sort of thing that pistons are ideal for. If you're asking how to make a mover behave like a piston, I present you with the following...

Can I just point out that this question, unless you've missed out some vital info, is roughly equivalent to the following:

I'm in need of something to go on my toast. I've got some jam, cheese, marmite and bananas. What I really want is jam on toast, so can someone tell me how I can combine cheese, marmite and bananas so that they taste like jam...

Just use a piston. Or just use the jam. I've forgotten which is the actual question....

If you insist on evcluding the use of a piston, you will NEED the following.
-One microchip
-One unglued platform
-Two separate pieces of hologram with tags.
-One detroyer
-One sequecsor
-One follower
-One battery
place the microchip on the platform. put the follower set to follow a particular tag on the chip. place your two tags with invisible hologram. the first should be at the starting point, the second at the destination. the tags should be the same tags as the follower would follow, and both tags must be n the detection range. on your sequence, at the desired time, place a battery. then place a destroyer on the hologram of the STARTING point, and connect the battery to the destroyer. When the sequensor plays, the battery will destroy the starting point tag, and the follower will follow the only remaining tag, or your destination.

Yeah, I think I'll give pistons a try. I'll update this post to say if I can get results from them or if there's another problem.

EDIT: It worked!

Funnily enough, you can use jam as well.
I mean put an invisible thin or thick (black or white) matter depending on the case, that will JAM the elevator where you want it to stop. lol
