Wanting to make a conveyor belt

Archive: 5 posts

I'm wanting to make a conveyor belt for a mini game I'm making. I want items to roll out on a conveyor belt. I have been trying to make one, but it doesn't seem to work properly. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks! :star:2011-08-15 22:29:00

Could you elaborate about how your conveyor has failed to work? It is hard to give advice without a few details!

Making an actual belt that cycles continuously across motorized wheels is probably more trouble than it's worth. It's easier to give the impression of a conveyor by emitting simple platforms onto a row of wheels or rigging a platform with a mover so that it will travel on its own once you start emitting copies. Either way, the emitted platforms start off-screen, scoot in, and then exit to be destroyed where nobody will see them. Players will feel like they're running on a belt whether it actually is one or not. You'll also save on thermo compared to a real belt: there's no bottom half moving around and eating up resources.

Thank you, Uncuddly! Sorry, I didn't elaborate much. I had only tried to work on one for a short time before I started looking it up online on how to make one. I was making individual pieces with movers on them, but didn't think to use wheels or anything like that. (which in hindsight was the obvious thing to use) My main problem was getting the pieces to cycle under and working their way back around. Your suggestion seems really helpful, though, so I think I'm going to give that a shot tonight. Thanks again!2011-08-16 03:52:00

I recommend looking at Wooden Works Part 1 (http://lbp.me/v/3s0wtq) (http://lbp.me/v/3s0wtq) which contains, midway through the level, a brilliant mini-sized conveyor belt which can be scaled up. Seeing it in action is very helpful to realizing how you might make yours. It's exactly what's been described in the comments above, wheels that push out objects emitted on one end and disappearing on the other.2011-08-16 05:30:00
