The Ancient's DreamScape

Archive: 11 posts

Hey all, this is a fantasy style platformer, it brings back more of an LBP1 kind of style. Its focussed on more visuals effects and all, but I tried to keep some variation in the gameplay as well. The music is a remix of March of the Bees from our Teams MTG level 2, using different instruments, a few added pieces, and more echo. The level has been pretty successful so far which makes meh happy

Hopefully you'll get to try it!

Here are some pictures off LBP.me

I already tried your level, jayhawk, and I can say that this is, artistically, a great level.

The obstacles were easy (not that I minded), but the delivery of the platforms were pretty nice. The setting and use of materials were excellent. And the story and character (Moof?) could have been done away with and it would still look like a good platformer. One complaint I have is that it was too short.

Overall, a big and a <3 from me for sticking to something traditional. Thanks for the level!

And now I have two questions:

How did you get these photos posted up from lbp.me to LBPCentral?
And can you play my last LBP1 level Funoranium for some feedback?

I liked how you used the ring decorations.
Some things were not needed (ex/ camera showing jump pad, etc), and a bit short, but fun enough.
I also think the grabby/fire hazard balls could have been improved/streamlined. The main point being you spend the time introducing them to the player, but they are only used in that one section.
And to be honest the button/platform reveals could have been better also. If you are going to emulate a visual/mechanic, always try to make it better than the original.

I looked around for this thread after I played it (via "recent activity"), but it didn't exist yet, but those are the main points I wanted to raise (I think!).

Hey thanks guys!

How did you get these photos posted up from lbp.me to LBPCentral?

Just go to your lbp.me photos, right click, copy image location, then paste that into the insert image icon when you are posting, it's really great

And thanks so much for the always reliable midnight_heist, I love your analytical criticism, you always find things I would never think of! Now I've got stuff to tweak!

Thanks again you guys!

Very interesting design with some nifty gameplay mechanics as well. While its a good level, I still think your tiki trail level was better and I say that though they are the only levels of yours that I have played. There was some fun to be had, yet as others have said it was a bit short but enjoyable too. The only suggestion I have is that the spinning bouncepad wheel was cool but once it stopped it took a little too long for the path to open up behind it. Keep up the good work and I look forward to playing your next level whatever it is. If you have a chance you can check out one of my better platformers called The Calamitous Clock, no feedback required.2011-08-17 02:34:00

That was a solid platforming level.

VISUALS:
The level looks greatly polished, and the light thingy character is a nice addition to this level.

SOUND:
The remix music made me want to play a couple of 'A Malevolent Tale' levels again after completing this level.

GAMEPLAY:
This level may be a bit short, but the platforming is very good. It is filled with clever obstacles and great use of bounce pads.

OVERALL:
It's a very fun level. A yay and heart.

I had to check this level out as I also have a level named Dreamscape, although mine is nothing compared to yours.

The visuals of the level were incredible. It was creative and consistent all through out the level. A definite eye-candy.

The platforming was quite enjoyable as well, especially the part where you had to time your grab on the sponge to avoid the hazards. It seemed to have alot of potentials.

Although I wish the level was just a bit longer so I could enjoy more of the scenery.

Overall, this was an enjoyable experience. Fantastic work.

If you have the time, would you mind checking out my level and leaving feedback on it? As I have said before, it is also called Dreamscape and it's a story-based platformer with 2 endings. Visually and gameplay-wise, mine is nothing compared to this work of art, but I did put effort into creating mine. So I hope you check it out.

Here it is:
