The Final Fanboy IS BACK!!!!!!

Archive: 11 posts

The Final Fanboy will be an ongoing series of short films which will build to become one massive film. With each episode there will be a tie in game which will build with the films to become The Final Fanboy The Game, a movie tie in game. If your not sure how this works then you know what to do .

This is Part 1 A Gamer's Prologue plus a sneak peak at Part 2 - Attack of the Art Guy thrown in as an extra little treat if you play The Final Fanboy The Game all the way through.

JUST ADDED -
Special prizes at the end of the teaser. Gamer's games, Thomas and The Killiestomper could be yours.
The lighting has been fixed so that you can see what you are doing now.
There is an example button to show you where the lightening bolts are meant to go.

Any feedback on how to make the level better is more than welcome and will review any creator's levels who gives me feedback... F4F after all

Also will give out a preview key for The Final Fanboy Part 2 Attack of the Art Guy (when it's finished) to anyone who gives feedback... it's going to be a side scrolling shooter on a paint brush

Special thanks goes out to Damaz10, clarkdef, ezBadfish, Kitsune_Jason, SX_Shookie99, arbiekko and Ramsay for play testing and making Part 1 the best it could be.

Just an f.y.i bit - if the title is making you worried this is any sort of fanboy level then don't worry it's just a name... with hidden significance.

But all this pales in comparison to what you really should be thinking;

Who is the Final Fanboy???

I think this is a well diserved bump... (sorry)
In the opining level, it seemed a little too empty. After the level link, I like the mix of visuals, humor, voice acting (it can go with humor) and an awsome story.
The thing about this level is that just about anything can happen... I also keep thinking on when that happens to me.
In the end, I hope you do continue this... Im looking foward to it!

Well i played this game (until i was hopelessly lost without any clues or hinted methods for fifteen minutes with some cage and a beast and lightning bolts before i gave up, what was i supposed to do?), and this level was unlike what i usually see in a normal level. the story (from what i could understand was a player who collects thumbs, but likes to be a knight on tinyhugeworld who just randomly has to save a princess where a evil guy pops up to stop him?) is interesting, to say nonetheless, but i had trouble reading the text quick enough in some spots, which meant i couldn't really see what was happening in the cut-scenes. also, the level's lighting is really bright, you might want to put an epilepsy warning in the Title. and again in the description, and the game. the fps was sorta hard to work with during the chase (and my TV actually makes fps in games and movies practically 3x better than a cinema can, it was built for gaming). The level has a very interesting color scheme too, and i actually like it. I think it's very bold to put in a level, and actually fits the style nicely. but can you PLEASE, please, turn down the intensity of the lights in a few area? (btw, the part about washing hands deff. made me laugh, kudos for finding a way to incorporate an older age of humor without being blaintantly obvious that it's wrong for children.) I hope to see how this level changes for the better.

In the meantime, could you please leave me some feedback on this level, and please be as clear with any problems you found (whether it be adjusting a speed by a smidgen or regenerating a few edges, much thanks!)

Thanks for the feedback, very much appreciated. In the cage bit if you press triangle it tells you what you are meant to be doing and there's also a bit at the start of that section where it shows you where to place the lighting bolts in order to kill the boss. Your guess for the story is good but way off I'm afraid, if you replay the level and get past the boss bit there's a sneak peak at part 2 after it which gives you some more hints to the story. What sections should the lights be toned down at as I've had feedback about this before and have toned them down at certain points.

I've queued your level and will give it a play and feedback 2moro.

Hi sorry for the late responce but my backlog keeps getting bigger. But I must say I was put off by the title as anything with fanboy in it instantly makes me think 'oh no some fanboy hating level making fun of other consoles'. Especially since I have a PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii. Yet I was mistaken and pleasantly surprised by the story. Nice blend between the real world and a gamer world.

The Prologue film felt a bit retro, if not very LBP1 with the flat characters. But I'm assuming this is the look you were aiming at. It looked at little odd in LBP2 but works, since I'm used to sackbots as actors. I thought the retro games controller was done very well. The dialogue and voice acting was great. I did feel it was a bit flat in design and could do with more usage of the front, middle and back layers and decorations to make it stand out more then what it already does. But with it being the intro, it's not a huge issue.

Gameplay and design wise I really liked the small knight character and it looked as if I was this small person in a very big world. One thing that stood out was the over saturated lights and fog. This actually made it hard to see where I was to go and hard to see any detail in your level. I would suggest turning down the fog and brightness of the lights and using a global lighting tweaker to make it dark as intended, but use the addtional lights more subtley without comprismising the style and look you're going for throughout most of your level. At times I did find there was a lack of direction of where to go and what to do, so it may be good to add in a few visual cues. I learnt this from doing my own level, things that you have made and take for granted in your level are not obvious to others since they did not make it. So it's best not to assume that a player will know what to do since they do not have prior knowledge when entering your level for the first time. Obstacles and hazards were decent. I'm hoping there's more variety to come in the series and more usage of the front. middle and back layers. You also have a nice colour scheme going on and and an intriguing storyline. The atmosphere seemed very surreal to me.

The area where you have to jump over two gaps filled with gas is a bit glitchy since the gas edges seep out onto the platform that you land on. This caused a few deaths that should not have happend. I did this in my own level, so it's easily missed. So I would shrink the size of the gas or place it slightly lower so the edges do not escape and kill the player when they have cleared it and landed. Another problem was at the bridge when you first enter the level as a knight. For some reason I could not get onto the bridge and was held back by an invisible wall in front of me. Then I remember a cut-scene playing out where my knight walked across and kept dying by falling in between the bridge gaps. After this I managed to cross it or I may have quit out and tired again. So I'm not sure if this is what you intended? Or if the level glitched out on me or the game engine/thermo got confused.

Sound was handled well and suited the level, but you could make it even better then what is is by adding a bit of ambience with sound effects along the way. Not a big issue, just an idea and small detail that could help.

Overall, you've done a great job/effort at blending the two worlds. There are things that need working on and tweaking to give it a better gameplay experience. But your series took me by surprise, especially the intriguing storyline. In fact I may have to come back and play it through again just to get a better feel for it again next time round. So you're definitely doing something right. The series is heading in the right direction, so it got a deserved yay from me. I'm looking foward to what you come up with next.

I played it and have mixed feelings. I do not like it when I go to a level and it is mostly cut scenes. There was very little actual game play and the big battle was more frustrating than fun. While the concept was good the playing was rather tricky. Even when I finally figured out what to do it was still a little too difficult. I think that this was a great level but it was not my style. I like platformes that are fast paced and require quick reflexes.

Now for the good news. This was a very well conceived idea. The retro theme was well created and maintained through the levels. The story was great and cut scenes well awesome. I may not have liked the level that much but the skill required to build this level is apparent. The theme is well maintained and the characters are elaborate. I think this is one worth checking out and making the call weather this is your style of level or not. If you like it you may have much to look forward to.

Excellent Job.

Sorry for the late feedback but this is what I felt.
I'm not a huge fan of cut scene/film levels but I try to keep an open mind and I was impressed. The presentation and environment was detailed and amazing. But I couldn't help feeling it was perhaps overdone. The same can be said of the lighhting: impressive but a little over the top.
However, the story was strong and I particularly liked the "kill-the-beast-minigame-type-thing", even if it could be a little frustrating at times . Whenever it did cut away, I felt it was justified and didn't interupt too much, but I would've liked more gameplay personally (in particular something to do with the unicorn you ride at the end... there's definitely something that could be done with that )
So, overall I was impressed but would like to have seen a little more gameplay and perhaps some of the lighting/scenery scaled back a little? (But that was just my personal opinion, as I realise it must have taken a lot of work to get that done!)
