hello all, i'm working on setting up just a test scene right now, for a level that i'll hopefully get to eventually. my problem right now is that i need a whistle sound. something that sounds like a coaches/referees whistle that you'd hear at a football game, basketball game, etc.. i've gone through pretty much every sound available but i can't seem to find anything. i'm not sure if i just missed it, or if there really isn't anything there. if there's no whistle available in game, does anyone know how i might be able to go about making something that sounds like what i need? thanks in advance for any help

um... I know there not too alike but there is a steam train whistle that you could tweak to get it to sound close... sorry if this isn't too helpful, now that I think about it a sports whistle would be very useful... hopefully someone might be able to help better than I could

thanks anyway, Dav. i'll try messing around with a few things and see if i can come up with something. if nothing works, then maybe i'll try setting up my headset and record a whistle sound through google or something. unfortunately, doing stuff like that rarely results in a clear sound. for me anyway.

Give this a try: Get a NOT gate and loop it back (to itself obviously). Then get a second output of that NOT gate and connect it to a speaker under the RETRO category, choose YOINK and set the SOUND MODIFIER to 5. The sound will play fast repeatedly resembling quite close to a (gentle to be honest) referee's whistle. You can experiment onnecting another NOT gate in the output of the first and connect this gate's output to another YOINK sound with different sound and/or volume modifier. Actually you can try other sounds too. Hopefully this will get you going.

thanks for the tip, zupaton i gave it a try and it doesn't sound too bad. i may still try to record an actual whistle, for realism sake, but, if that fails, then this will be my back up ^^

Sorry to raise this boring thread but that whistle kinda turned to obsession for me. lol After a couple of tries experimenting with sounds and pitches i ended up with that pretty convincing sound combination. http://www.freeimagehosting.net/t/cd6b6.jpg The principle remains the same as before. The two PINK speakers is the YOINK sound under RETRO category but this time the SOUND MODIFIER was set to 3 for both. The GREEN one is the BEEP sound under UI category with the SOUND MODIFIER set to 10. Actually doesn't make much difference if set between 9 to 12. So Chiyo, if you ever read this again, give a blow at it if everything else fails.
