Question

(I was going to put this in artwork and creativity, but since it's not a picture or anything, its a question about art, I put it here. Move the thread if you like)

Ok, here is my question -

Do you think anime is..uh.."girly"?
Because im a male and I like drawing it and when I look at pictures or tutorials of anime, they are all by girls, and I feel like im in the "wrong gender" or something like that. I dont think its only for girls, but I want to know what you think.

Edit: Because im such an idiot, i didnt know anime and manga were basicly the same thing (anime is Japanese style animation and manga is Japanese style comics. But im sure you already knew that) I meant manga.

Girls tends to be the ones who want to teach others the skills by doing how-to guides yeah, guess it's because they feel that they might get some cred if someone credits their guide or something. :/

But don't be fooled, anime is a very broad spectrum (given that it literally just means animation made in Japan/styled like such), and there's plenty of testosterone-filled anime along with the cute fluffy stuff.

I'm not a fan of anime personally, but if you watch any of the credits to anime shows the majority of artists are male. If what you say about the majority of tutorialists being female is true, than that could be because men might feel embarrassed to be the first with a tutorial. Whatever the case, you're not alone and you should keep doing what you love.2011-08-11 16:22:00

As far as I'm aware, there are way more (Japanese) male Mangakas than women. I also know some dudes at my school, that are very good at drawing, who are actually used to drawing like Japanese people do, but never have I ever come across a girl that draws this way (I mean, for real, at my school. I do know women Mangakas on the web, and one on LBPCentral!). Shōjo mangas represent a minority in comparaison to Shōnens for that matter. Anyway, whatever. As WoodburyRaider said, keep doing what you love, whatever it is (well as long as it's legal ), and keep in mind that nonconformism can only make you stronger!2011-08-15 13:04:00

I have to say that anime/manga styles are pretty broad. I mean, I'd certainly say Fruits Basket or Azumanga Daioh would be a somewhat girly style, but at the same time something like Berserk or Akira...heh, not so much. It all pretty much depends on what kind of art style you're going for.2011-08-17 05:05:00
