Just hoping to share my newest level with some of you out there! This is my first level submitted to the lbpc level showcase forum. The level itself was a team effort between me and a friend of mine. We had a lot of fun putting it together and hope you guys enjoy playing it! It is a platforming level with a neat grungy-technology appearance.

Here are a few screenshots from the level:

That part is a bit tricky! There are a few small doorways below the spotlights that you can take refuge in.. But dodging the lights can be tough a little tough!

Yeah, that's what I was attempting to do.
I can get to the doorway in the centre, but that second light always spots me and cannot jump up the stairs fast enough.
If I am doing it right (but just suck) I would think this part is a bit too hard to put in so early in the level.

EDIT: Oh, there's three different patterns? I thought it was just a timing issue. HMM.

A little hint actually.. The lights have three different search patterns that change each time you happen to get zapped. It's easiest when the two are going at the same time. It's actually pretty close to the end of the level, though there are even more devious obstacles awaiting you once you pass the search lights! Definitely not an easy level, for sure!

Timing is still important!

Hey Whoacoder. You had asked me in LBP2 for feedback on your level since I gave it a frown, so I thought I'd respond here to make things easier. The main reason for the negative rating is that I found it to be too frustrating at both the spotlights and at the rotating platforms. I'll try to explain why...

I think the spotlight section can be a little confusing. My friend and I weren't sure how to get by the second spotlight. Because of the first two holes in the wall and the lack of a third hole under the second spotlight, my friend and I thought we simply had to run through the second spotlight. After many deaths, we finally succeeded. It wasn't until my second playthrough that I realized that, duh, the back wall ends before the stairs, giving me somewhere to hide. This, of course, is my fault, but seeing as Midnight_heist had the same issue, it may be something you wish to look into. Also, I didn't care for the camera just before entering the spotlight area. As it is now, it's all too easy for the player to run into the first spotlight and get zapped before even realizing the spotlights exist. I think it should give the player a better view of the first spotlight and safe zone before you're within it's reach. A warning sign before it of some sort could work, too.

My reason for disliking the rotating platform part is a little more complicated. It feels unfair right off the bat because you cannot understand the obstacle until you've been killed by it. When approaching this section from the left, all you can see is the first rotating platform. You can see that it rotates, but since you can't see what lies beyond it, you have no idea that you need to use its rotation to launch yourself to the next platform. This requires at least one death to observe. Next, after many deaths trying to navigate the two rotating platforms, you have a different kind of platform that shoots up vertically. You cannot, however, see your next destination from the bottom. As a result, you cannot know that you need a running start to gain enough momentum to reach the cliff above and to the right. This means another necessary death. Since you've probably died numerous times just trying to reach this third platform, the fact that you again need to die before understanding the obstacle makes it even worse. Now you're back to struggling with the first two platforms before you can even attempt the third platform another time. This makes it frustrating and devoid of fun. Besides that though, I would personally add a light or a sound to help signal to the player when the platforms are going to rotate or move. Oh, and the first time my friend actually made it across that section, after dying an absurd number of times, he was apparently smacked off the cliff by an invisible sackbot. Was that actually in the level or were we hallucinating? If it is a part of the level, well . . . that's the opposite of fun. For the player, at least.

I obviously focused here one what I perceived as flaws, but I don't want to give the impression that I hated your level. The other obstacles are well done, the art is great, and the music is fantastic. I also liked your use of the TV. Despite coming away with a negative impression, it's technically a well made level and you're clearly a talented creator.

I've just finished playing your level, and I gotta say, it was quite challenging. I did originally yay it but took it away because I felt it was slightly too challenging. It's neither a yay or boo from me. There's a fine line between challenging & frustrating but I think you may have crossed it. For me, unlike some people, I found the early spotlight bit reasonably simple to cross. Once I realised light=death I figured it out. The 'devious spinning platforms' as you stated in the description were however, a huge pain to cross. I only realised how to do it once I saw the score bubbles in the air so perhaps a game camera would make it clearer at first. I had countless deaths but eventually I crossed it only to find after standing for a slight rest the platform came back down and squished me which kind of prompted a rage quit lol.

Anyway, enough of the bad points, that's not fun. I thought the design of the level was extremely well made & the atmosphere is terrific. I think that the black darkness for a background contributed to that as well as the custom music. Apart from immense difficulty, the gameplay was good.

Overall, it is a good level but considering me being someone whose been playing LBP for ages, I guess you could say a veteran, (Not trying to say I'm awesome) found it extremely difficult, if a new player tried it, it would probably put them off your levels for a while.

Conclusion: Very good level, just tone down the difficulty slightly!

I want to thank you guys for the positive feedback (and even the negative!) as well as the great criticism! Going to have to slap Kewlz for designing such a horrifying obstacle.. Even I find the spinning platforms to be a bit of a challenge for sure. I think there are a few things I might be able to add or tweak to make things a little less challenging, or at least informative, as far as the platforms and spotlights go.

The points bubbles above the platforms were actually supposed to be a kind of indicator as to how you are supposed to use the platforms to launch yourself up. It IS possible to make it by running and jumping across as the platforms spin, though that way requires a bit more timing. I'll definitely see what I can do to fix a few of these things to make the level a little less frustrating!

One of the tweaks I believe will definitely be a checkpoint after the spinning platforms since that bit definitely seems to give everyone the most problems!

Earlier, I played this level and it is fantastic.

VISUALS:
The junkyard looks great, and the lightning effects are breathtaking. You should add a game camera around the lightning part to see the clouds above better.

SOUND:
Epic custom music.

GAMEPLAY:
The level has plenty of challenging moments like the lightning dodge section and the spotlight timing dodge. You should add an infinite checkpoint between the spinning and launching platform part and the grabinator crusher part.

OVERALL:
It is a challenging but exciting level. A yay, heart, and positive review.
