How do YOU get plays?

Archive: 8 posts

My levels havent been getting plays since LBP1 and the only way ive gotten plays then was by republishing alot of having one of my friend who do get plays just by publishing link my level to theirs. But now I cant get plays at all! Im sooo frustrated. Ive worked on this 5 part level seriese for SOOOO long and im finally ptting out the parts and it has like 1 play. And I do advertise my levels on here alot but that honestly doesnt really help me. And I work sooo hard on my levels. And my friend who also have goood levels get plays by just publishing and nothing else. Never have I been able to publish a level and just watch and relax as it got to page 1 (i know the system is defferent for LBP2) I would advertise my new level but im on PS3 Browser and it wont let mr post level shocase topics for some reason. Well ya anyway. Im kinda mad. For you who do get plays, how do you?2011-08-10 01:26:00

Get people on your friends list to play it. It's what I did for my level. Didn't amount to much, but meh. It's all luck unfortunately.

EDIT: Ah, it appears you've unpublished them.

Yeah, get your friends on board, ensure they'll play right at publication (might want to wait for a Friday night or Saturday morning, higher activity?) and have them pile on and rate it high right away. Then republish a few times so it pops up in the New Levels list where others compulsively check it to see their own immediately published thing, and see yours with a few Yays and Hearts already, and farm a few more plays that way. With a bit of luck, this'll push your thing onto the Cool Pages via algorithm and the floodgates will open.

I'll add a disclaimer that I have not attempted this, I'm going by the methodology discussed in the forums here.

My levels get about a play a day, which is very good, just via friends of friends or odd referrals.

Most important thing is to not obsess over getting plays. LBP1 was and is a different beast. LBP2 isn't better or worse, just different. And a bit drowned because it's an online mashup of LBP1 and LBP2 levels competing for your attention.

Nobody comes on LBPC to talk about how their level is doing better than expected. Everyone feels underappreciated. Sorry!

Errr... I don't.
My levels are a barren wasteland now only inhabited my cockroaches.

Try posting your levels on the level showcase here in LBPC. Post is as a F4F (Feedback for feedback) level.
Then look for more F4F levels, play them and ask pepole to play your F4F levels in change.

If it's about making friends and sharing ideas, F4F is fine. But as a true attention-getter, F4F is unreliable. At its best, of course, it's great community interaction, but proper and honest F4F will only yield 2-5 plays over the course of the first week, then never again, unless you also maintain the F4F thread as diligently as your LBP account, making constant references in both to trading reviews and stuff. And at its worst, it's a slightly classier version of H4H, boosting off the backs of random individuals with a carrot dangled promise to "pay you back later", which is a lopsided concept since reviews unlike hearts are extremely subjective and vary in quality and content like snowflakes. Plus, if you're serious about interacting and leaving feedback, nobody wants to follow up a thoughtful commentary with "now please play my levels and review me back, because THAT'S THE ONLY REASON I PLAYED THIS".

Again, if it's about really enjoying the community on a one-to-one level, F4F is great. But to game the boards and get loads of attention, other (questionable?) tactics are required, and even if F4F sort of kind of works in that regard, it's best for everyone not to reduce it to a boosting tactic.

Here's what you do:

Simply send an invite to as many people you can/know.

Get to know them a little bit...maybe play their levels and such...

Then when you finish your level, send message to the asking them to play their levels or join them and ask them.

Get plays

??????????

Profit.

Now you may think this is cold manipulation...cuz it is.
