Recovering lost data

Archive: 4 posts

Recently I tried to turn on our PS3 only to find a briefly blinking yellow light, a sudden shut down and, in short, a very unhappy system. My dad tried, with limited success, to fix it but eventually we had to replace it. I was wondering if my LBP saves are gone forever or if there was some way to retrieve them. My PSN account, published levels, and customized earth and moon are still intact which made me wonder if the rest of my materials, objects and stickers are still out there somewhere. I would really appreciate any insight on the matter as I'd really like to get back to creating but I REALLY don't want to spend countless hours going back through both games to earn everything again!2011-08-10 00:08:00

Your PSN account, published levels and customized earth and moon are intact because that data is stored on servers away from your PS3, which is why they survived the crash. Unfortunately your save game data is dead and gone. This is a frequent problem with LBP2 that can corrupt your entire PS3 hard drive. I've had it happen twice. After the first time, I got a USB storage device and also now backup online using the PSN+ service. I went through and re-aced all levels for LBP1+LBP2, took a week or so with focus. Along the way I constanted backed up my profiles and saved them onto USB. When the second crash happened, I was able to quickly recover my profile, no problem.

If you don't mind disabling pins and trophies, you can import someone else's save 100% completed save data for access to all materials and objects. These are available to download online, or can be shared between profiles on the PS3.

My deepest condolences!

* Add me if you want to play through both games in a hurry and collect stuff. I do this frequently for both games and DLC packs.

The only way to retrieve the data from the drive is to repair the PS3. There's a guide here (http://www.yellowlight.co.uk/fix.php) (which worked for me when my PS3 suffered the same fate), or there are a few third-party companies who will do the repair if you pay 'em.

Unless you backed your data up there is no other way except trying to repair. Good luck, we've all been there before.

BTW, Customized moons and earth are not saved server side, they are locally saved.
