Crooked Canyons

Hello everyone! This a level I spent around 3 weeks creating. There's no story line or anything like that, just pure platforming. As you've probably realized by now, this is a canyon level. So know what to expect in terms of materials etc. However, I added a little twist to it by adding a whole load of stickers not only from ''The Canyons'' theme section which give the level a little bit more twisted feel to it. It won't amaze you in terms of detail when comparing to what's out there, but hey, I did my best and I'm proud of it The level features a wide array of platforming challenges. Everything from swinging , grabbing, shooting (creatinator), bouncing and everything in between Hope you enjoy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jeUnRKmvjrA http://i3.lbp.me/img/ft/a63b605ca14968912f92cc73aecefe756ea3a15e.jpg http://ic.lbp.me/img/ft/4cc96df0e824632b3ff8161acf7c85d20e6cbf9f.jpg Thanks to Sackboy 223 for the upload | 2011-08-09 23:17:00 Author: VenemoX Posts: 197 |
Just played it. I think there were a few parts that were a little bit difficult for me. I'm not so great with the really close timing stuff. Otherwise it looks really well done and the use of all the three layers was well used. Great job! Also, I just recorded your level in HD on my PVR. It should be up on YouTube in about an hour or so. Here my YouTube Channel so you can check: http://www.youtube.com/user/Sackboy223?feature=mhee | 2011-08-09 23:36:00 Author: Unknown User |
Thanks a bunch for your review Yea, I know it can be a bit difficult at some parts. I tend to make overly challenging stuff without realizing it hehe . Also, thanks a lot for uploading it to YouTube, I'll be sure to subscribe! | 2011-08-09 23:43:00 Author: VenemoX Posts: 197 |

I played this last night and enjoyed it. I thought it had plenty of obstacles to keep you on your toes and the overall level design was good. Very fun platformer. Good work. | 2011-08-11 14:44:00 Author: biorogue Posts: 8424 |
I left a glowing review in game but i loved it so much im here to review more + Everything. - Nothing. People increase the chances of making huge design mistakes when they aspire to create lofty epic levels that abandon the proprietary aspects of LBP gameplay (and often aren't fun.) But your humble level just tries to do something simple and well. It nails platforming. And not just any platforming; Little Big Planet platforming. you took perfect control over the use of the three layers, used the power ups at appropriate times, and had a great visual theme going throughout the entire theme. It's goofy, but it's probably one of my favorite levels in LBP just because you really GET the kind of levels that Mm makes. Mm picks are not stuff that Mm would make. This is. (I voted up, then retracted my vote, then voted up again. . . I was hoping it'd go through twice :/ ) | 2011-08-11 23:32:00 Author: Nightshade_games Posts: 76 |
Thanks again for the kind words. I could never imagine someone would like this level that much. In fact, I reconsidered scrapping this level, but your reviews makes me glad I didn't | 2011-08-11 23:59:00 Author: VenemoX Posts: 197 |
Ah, I know that feeling ah too well. I scrap so much crap. | 2011-08-12 00:08:00 Author: Nightshade_games Posts: 76 |
I left a very positive review after playing the level, but I'll comment here as well. I thought it was a very well designed level; simple but fun. It wasn't cluttered or messy, and I definitely like that even though you used a familiar theme, you made your own obstacles instead of using premade ones. I even learned something from playing your levels...I didn't know you could turn on and off bouncy pads like that! I'll have to remember that. If you get a chance, try my level Crisis at the Orbitron Space Station. It's posted in the Showcase as F4F. | 2011-08-12 01:49:00 Author: Brannayen Posts: 438 |
Three weeks!? Looks like this might be worth playing! | 2011-08-12 04:38:00 Author: OcamposMoon Posts: 135 |
My wife and I enjoyed this one from the beginning to the end. Sure we died, sure it got frustrating, but NEVER did we want to stop. The level gave such a fun, light hearted vibe that kept us going and the varied platforming elements were great! Only suggestion would be to move a re-spawning/check point in the game. Where you have the burning logs emmitted and rolling down the hill. The checkpoint is directly below the logs but yet when your making your attempt to jump the logs, the camera shifts to an angle. While that works perfectly well if your playing 1player, but with 2 player it causes a problem. If my wife died and we both were jumping on the logs, she would respawn below and the camera takes a hard shift to account the new player thus throwing myself in one of the rolling logs. This camera craziness made it a bit challenging. Perhaps move it to the left once your on the ledge right before you make your way past the rolling logs? Like I said before, great level, great length, great gameplay and best of all, what a fun level that never took itself too seriously!! | 2011-08-13 08:41:00 Author: John82wa Posts: 221 |
Hi, thanks for the feedback. I will move the checkpoints whenever I get the chance (I'm not home right now). I can also reduce the frequency of the logs if it get too hard. Also, the camera issue is due to the fact that I never tested this level with more than one player. But I'll try to fix that as well. Thanks again | 2011-08-13 10:50:00 Author: VenemoX Posts: 197 |
Sorry this took so long, so here I go: The canyons theme was a good change of scenery. Instead of thinking large and original, you went with something familiar, LBP1-like. The obstacles, though somewhat difficult (not that that's a bad thing), were laced with the new in LBP2. And your intention to make this level under-the-radar, and simple, made a fine difference. So overall, I give you a for some very good platforming. If you do have time, could you try out my level Funoranium and place your feedback on it? | 2011-08-13 18:10:00 Author: OcamposMoon Posts: 135 |
Once I got past the difficult start (or maybe I'm just bad at this) I found this level to be quite enjoyable and smooth. I actually liked that you have used some of the more classic gameplay elements, like for example the very last section. Good work. | 2011-08-15 08:38:00 Author: Syroc Posts: 3193 |
I tried it out and it felt like a nice blend of an LBP1 theme with some LBP2 platforming (at least for the second half of the level). The visuals throughout the level was nostalgic of Canyons level from LBP1. I loved it. As for the actual gameplay, the decent pacing of varying platforms made it really enjoyable. If you have the time, would you mind checking out my level and leaving feedback on it? It's called Trial of the Goddess and it's also a platformer. It's on LBP1 though, so don't expect much from it. Thanks for the feedback of Cybernetic Adventures Zeta. That's a very fun platforming level. VISUALS: The level has interesting visuals with well decorated stickers and decorations that made it more canyon themed. SOUND: The music choices are very good in this level. I also enjoyed the sound effect usage in this level. GAMEPLAY: The platforming gameplay is solid, and the grappling hook and creatinator usage is very good. OVERALLL: Awesome platformer. A yay. | 2011-09-01 18:22:00 Author: JustinArt Posts: 1314 |
Hey I haded you to my queue. I'll leave feedback here after having played it. Can you please review my level too : http://lbp.me/v/5k3-t5 | 2011-09-01 21:10:00 Author: Maxouze Posts: 96 |
Hey I loved your level. Really good plateforming. Well made traps, the level is never annoying and I liked to go through it. Good work | 2011-09-02 06:07:00 Author: Maxouze Posts: 96 |
I really enjoyed this level. You captured the theme really well & apart from no storyline it could've been a LBP 2 version of the canyon levels in the previous game. The gameplay was fun- it wasn't too easy so it was a challenge but not one that left me frustrated. You got the balance perfectly there. On the visual aspects, also very good. I thought the materials were used really well because there wasn't too many & the stickers added some good detail. I was pleased to see the creatinator used because not that many levels use it and you made it emit your own object, not just water. Finally, the structure of the level made it entertaining just walking about because you included all 3 layers and used the in/out mover effectively. It's a yay from me & it deserves a lot of plays. P.S I like the title! | 2011-09-02 10:33:00 Author: bdT96000 Posts: 25 |
