Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

Archive: 18 posts

After seeing it release again for the 3ds, I decided to go back to my Gamecube version and play through the game, which I have never done. After playing it for even just a little amount of time, I fell in love with it. I now personally understand why It gets so many good reviews, and is claimed "the best game ever created". Anyways, what do you guys think of the game? How do you think it compares to today's games? And if you have the 3ds version, but played the older version, does the experience really feel that much more amazing? Just felt that I should write about it.2011-08-09 17:12:00

I'm gonna have to disagree with you there about wind waker and majora's mask being better but yes it most definitely was one of the best games ever made.

The thing is... it still stands up by itself.
There are many things that current developers could learn from Z:OoT's book.

It is a master work in level design, pacing, apparent freedom of movement while still being a linear experience - but never forced. The control scheme, the targeting system, the puzzles - just everything about the game SCREAMS quality.

Devs should stop wasting their efforts on photo-realistic graphics and instead focus on the CORE of what makes games truely great - ie; The Level Design and Playablity.

Photo-realistic graphics are only impressive for as long as they are the 'market leader'. Once someone does some better graphics, all of a sudden they start to look very dated.

Where-as great gameplay is timeless (and stylised graphics withstand the test of time).

IMO, it was ahead of its time, and I loved it. But as for "the best game ever", that's still debatable.2011-08-10 01:06:00

It has aged well. As has MM and WW. Just saying maybe you should take a closer look at MM for what it really is2011-08-10 01:24:00

Well I'm not sure why my post needed that response but perhaps I should expand on my previous statement.

I really enjoyed the game when I played it 10 years ago, between the N64 and the Gamecube I probably played the normal version about half-a-dozen times and had another two on the Master Quest. There's just a pont where I've played it as much as I want to and have no desire to do it again.

I'm the same - it's exactly why I haven't bought the 3DS version yet.
I just played it not that long ago on the Wii. Must have played it through about 4 or 5 times.

Though I did have a shot on my mates copy - and it's still fresh.

Yeah, me too. Reason I haven't played is it cause I don't have a 3DS. I'm probably going to end up buying it. I'm also looking forward to the old GB and GBC zelda games on the e shop.

I actually think portal is the most important game of our time, all of the memes, the great story, but i wouldnt doubt Zelda being 2nd best most definitely.

Portal, though fun, and innovative in concept, and fresh in the game play department, is a flash in the pan when compared to OoT.2011-08-11 15:54:00

It's a game, where the experience, story and everything unfolds as you get into it. It just gets better and better. I love the 3DS version, really lovely to finally play the game all through. Was stuck on the N64 and Gamecube version. Easier menus and touch screen makes it a whole lot easier to navigate in.2011-08-15 00:49:00
