Have you ever wished LBP was rated 'T'?

Archive: 25 posts

Lol I really wish it was. 2 main reasons: The excessive number of children who create the "Kill Justin Beiber" and H4H levels.
Also the gaming experience would be alot better with a T rating. (Mild Language, no ridiculous moderations, etc.)

What's your take on the matter?

its a interesting concept but they should move it to E10+ so a few kids who know what they are doing can enjoy the game without h4h's
but its not only kids that h4h,its also teens.

IMO, the incredible range of users for LBP is a good thing, but they need a better way of sorting levels.

Perhaps something as simple as an age recommendation for a level, just like the tags. It's not perfect, but at least it could help allow younger players to find levels suited to them, and likewise for older players.

Also, they made posting levels too easy. Nearly all the levels I find when making a random search should never have been published. Should require certain thermo use and time in create, as well as only able to post 1/week.

That is a great idea actually. Because they usualy dislike your level becuz it's not like mw2 or something

dead on the money, but realise what you just said, what is mw2 rated? yeah it seems higher rated game = less likely for parents to by, more annoying brats begging there parents and getting it, where as e or e10+ gets parents excited and buying it for the MW2 junkie kids not to say i dont like my COD as much as the next guy, but then again, i am tired of hearing littluns screaming offensive things, (let alone disgusting things) and i would rather not let the community get more people like this2011-08-09 09:05:00

But what if it's a level series, or one level with multiple level links?

Good point. I suppose I meant full levels, sublevels would be fine. To add to this, I'll use an idea from another thread, where you get more publishing 'power' based on your time in create mode/playing LBP. That could mean being able to publish more often, etc...

Also, an M rater LBP... that could actually be fairly interesting. Cursing sackpeople, more gruesome deaths, less moderation, mostly mature creators. I'd probably enjoy it more than this simply due to the lack of youths and youth focused levels.

During the beta when it was 18+ and everyone was handpicked there was a much better sense of community but I don't think you'd produce the same result just by re-rating the game.2011-08-09 11:42:00

In what world does a higher age rating mean more mature players? Certainly not the gaming world.

"Solutions" which limit player access are reactionary and alienating to an unknowable number of customers, and if someone wants to get around limitations, usually an entitled child, and there's no shortage of those in T- and M-rated game circles, they can do it easily. Look at the number of gamebreaking glitches that have been exploited so far, and imagine how much worse it would be if 90% of such behavior went unmoderated. Particularly comments: would you prefer an uptick in user dialogue like "***** U FAGG*T SUK UR D*CKC*CK" (photo of penis) to go with that higher age rating? Because fairness dictates that it be allowed. Or do you just want the higher rating and expect moderation to continue as though there were 5-year-olds playing? Which is not to say anyone would be free from the banhammer for such behavior: hate speech and pornographic content would be just as verboten in this "more mature" multiplayer world than now, you'd just have a lot more jerks crossing the lines, and a lot more people being absolutely outraged when they are arbitrarily moderated or banned while their much worse friends are not. So... LBP as it is now, but with more vitriol, more trolling, more hateful childish activity. There was some mention of LBP with regards to Call of Duty mentality... there's an M-rated franchise whose servers are populated by almost exclusively idiot children. What is the point you're trying to make again? That higher ratings would reduce the kid count? Or improve player behavior?

My own son just entered junior high, and is a nice, friendly, intelligent gamer, but a godawful LBP level designer. Should he be denied access to the game for a few more years, at which time he will be magically mature enough to post a level? And consider then my age. Anyone up through college age is a kid to me, more entitled and arrogant and regressively juvenile with each year of so-called maturity, so if you, at age whatever, dislike kids in your game, and are voting to screen them out, am I entitled to screen YOU and everyone under 25 out? After all it's the same principle. Easier to just cut off everyone at a certain age, rather than play the game as-is and deal with case by case behavior or levels...

Just trying to make a point. This isn't aimed at "you" the OP, I recognize it's a discussion.

TL;DR? No, the game should not be rated T.

Perhaps there's already a degree of self-organisation in the community to eject "bad"/immature levels and people in the form of groups like LBP Elite and dare I say it this forum?2011-08-09 12:17:00

Honestly, no.

Clearly it won't get rid of little kids (it didn't work for COD now, did it?). Besides, kids make up a large amount of sales. Everytime I've seen a copy been bought, it's been by a little kid. Sure, they're not going to make any good levels, but they create cash. And money is good for Mm. More money for Mm hopefully means better stuff for us.

Honestly, I'd wager that most of the biggest idiots are old enough for T-rated games anyway. Besides, just because there's a rating on the box doesn't stop underage players, so it wouldn't make much of a difference.2011-08-09 15:43:00

I'm 12. I don't H4H, P4P, steal, copy, swear, or any of that stuff. But I just fade into the underworld of being called a goody-two-shoes, even on LBP sometimes, because I do not do these bad things. It makes me feel much unappreciated.
Just 'cause you're a kid doesn't mean you can do whatever you want. You can get put in juvy (did I spell that right?) for cyberbullying. And, I truely think that CoD and most other M rated games should have a very strict age limit so these kids like me don't play them. Some are okay, like Infamous, isn't that rated M? It was a really good game. Same with 2. It's just... CoD...

If you're uprating the ESRB rating, there needs to be an ingame reason for it. The ESRB isn't going to make a game like LBP M because it would be better for the community, it would rate it E for the content that's in it. So this isn't going to happen unless the style of LBP itself gets a complete overhaul.2011-08-09 18:01:00

Your "supposed to" be 18+ to have a master PSN anyways and you can only play games online with that master account. I have seen tons of very mature and intelligent "kids" as well as surprisingly immature, mean and/or stupid adults, so its really just a mixed bag as it is. It would be nice to have a just a bit more mature content and less moderation, but I really wouldn't want all these smart and cool children to be forced out of the game :/ Its pretty upsetting to see so many kids searching things like sex, porn and poop on LBP...2011-08-10 18:10:00

I really don't mind the E for everyone..

What I was hoping at the announcement of the LBP2 tagging system, that we could personally segment content more toward seriously created content over the other kind of stuff that comes out every few minutes. That would have helped get you past the bulk of the chaff so to speak and allow a bit better tailored community searches.

Instead the tags available are not really that handy, nor describe stuff very well to use them to an advantage as I was hoping.

"jump pads" "controlinator" "grabinator" so??? Just kinda pointless really.

I think the age tag for levels sounds like a great idea. Plus, I'd love to see DaVinci and Avalon droppin' F-bombs at each other in that opening sequence. XD

As others have said, a higher rating isn't gonna stop immature/underage gamers, those are the types of kids that will pester their parents into caving and getting the game for the kid.

It's definitely an interesting question, raises a good point.

I don't think it would make much differance. Look at all the parents complaining because their 11 year old son saw someone get shot or stabbed in an 18 rated game that they bought for them!! Makes me so angry2011-08-10 23:35:00
