I played it and thought it was fantastic - really good visuals and original puzzles. However I got stuck immediately after the part where you rearrange the coloured blocks underwater. Please provide better signposting of what to do next so I can finish the level and write a better review!

PS: A title that brilliant and only 12 plays?! What is wrong with people?!

OK I've finished it and it's superb, but I do have two suggestions.

It turns out the reason I failed the first time was that I didn't have the robots with me. The level allows you to reach the underwater blocks part without them, but if you do then it is impossible to progress as you can't go back and get them. I would suggest that the floor should only collapse to let you down to the underwater blocks if the robots are standing on it with you.

My second suggestion is that at the beginning when the camera pans across the level to show you some of the things you have to do, this is not really necessary. It's not helpful as the puzzles aren't that hard anyway, plus it slows down the action. The player has already sat through the speech during the sinking bit at the beginning, so hitting them straight away with a superfluous cutscene just makes it drag a little without adding anything.

Anyway I loved the level and I was more than happy to play it three times to reach the end!

hi

thanks a lot for this helpful feedback.

It turns out the reason I failed the first time was that I didn't have the robots with me. The level allows you to reach the underwater blocks part without them, but if you do then it is impossible to progress as you can't go back and get them. I would suggest that the floor should only collapse to let you down to the underwater blocks if the robots are standing on it with you.
i understand now why you got stuck. i thinked it was clear to have the bots always with you because the masterplan is to get them tru the cave. i played it about 1 billion times and of course for me that was clear. i simply didn't thinked of this on this part of the level. the long way up and down was enough "sign" for me. bad.
you've overseen the elevator for the bots, right?

My second suggestion is that at the beginning when the camera pans across the level to show you some of the things you have to do, this is not really necessary. It's not helpful as the puzzles aren't that hard anyway, plus it slows down the action. The player has already sat through the speech during the sinking bit at the beginning, so hitting them straight away with a superfluous cutscene just makes it drag a little without adding anything.
i agree in some parts. i wanted to use a minimum of "real information" in speech bubbles. so i've choosen this fancy camera. i also set them to "skipable" which simply doesn't work for some reason. you think you had solved the level goal without this little cut scene? or do you mean that i should use short speech bubbles for this? or did i just had a too nooby test player? *g*

A title that brilliant and only 12 plays?! What is wrong with people?!
well, maybe "brilliant" is not "call of duty" ;-) glad you like the title!

so long, to shorten my reply... i find that these are 2 good suggestions so i'll keep them in mind for my next creations. i guess i won't change the cut scene at the beginning but i'll should be able to fix that little part where you should not get down before the bots are there too.

once again, thanks for the feedback! (and excuse my sometimes weird english)

The first time I played I tried to keep the bots with me, but at the very first puzzle they fell in the water and died because I hadn't lowered it, so I thought I'd leave them behind and come back for them once I'd cleared up any danger! Generally it's best not to assume that a player will play a level the way you want them to.

With regards to the cutscene, while it shows some of the level, I don't think it helps to solve the puzzles in any way. But that's OK because I don't think you need to give players any extra help at that stage. It's pretty clear what you have to do, and this is coming from someone who HATES it when levels aren't well signposted!

And if Extraterrestrial Robots in Need were a charity, I'd definitely send them ?5 a month.

once again, thanks for the feedback!!

by the way, actually you can go back if you're on the part with the colored blocks underwater. but you have to notice that you passed a checkpoint and then pop yourself there. well, i didn't find a easy way in the meantime to fix that part without changing a lot of logic on the corner.

anyways... sadly still just 16 plays.
