Crisis At The Orbitron Space Station

Archive: 8 posts

Due to heavy work schedule, I can guarantee the first 10 feedbacks. I will definitely do more as able; I appreciate all the feedback I can get.

This level was inspired by the flash games where you use the mouse to draw your character's path as you play. I came upon this idea quite by accident; I was just goofing around with putting stupid stuff in the creatinator, and realized that this could work for a level. And, PLEASE try to play to the end...there's an exciting multi-part end boss!

Let's start of with the presentation. The intro is cool, but drags on a little bit more than it should. Once you get into the level, the visuals are very basic, containing only one or two materials.

Now the gameplay. I understand the concept, but it's flawed. The problems I had is the fact that the blocks disappear after a few seconds which made it very frustrating. Also, the blocks you're shooting are too big which sometimes makes you unable to jump up on it.

I didn't manage to finish this level due to the fact that I got stuck on a challenge for 3 minutes and it was getting way to frustrating.

Now I'm not sure if you're new to creating levels but my advice is to: increase the time before the blocks disappear (or remove the time thingy entirely) and make the blocks smaller.

Also, for the presentation: Do not build the level from the bottom of the level. Create your own ground and it'll look a lot better I'm not able to give this level a ''YAY!'' just yet. But if you try to fix these issues, I will give it another try.

All I have to say about your level is this Brannayen.

The cutscene at the start was a pretty epic way to start off, but you need more work on the gameplay phase since I got stuck on the very first part. One thing I could suggest is that you put at least a solid obstacle, maybe have some dangerous material there like plasma or electricity. The creatinator should emit boards instead of spreading out dark matter since it keeps spreading couldn't let me go further every way I try to shoot.

I decided to quit and give you a . Thanks for the feedback on Funoranium though!

Thanks for the feedback. I am relatively new at making levels, although I think I'm getting quite good at the logic part of it. Just out of curiosity, for those that played this level, how far did you get? I know the first part of the level isn't as exciting, but it's to teach you how to use the blockinator to navigate various obstacles. As far as the blocks disappearing quickly, it's partially because creatinators have a 100 items limit, and if you hold down the button, it runs through that pretty quickly. I did put in a limit as well, because if you accidentally block your path, you won't be waiting forever for it to clear out.
I did extensively playtest this level; maybe that's why I can move rapidly through the level. If I can get my internet issues worked out soon, maybe one of you would like to join me online, and I can show off more of the level, and get more feedback, or maybe even co-op to make it better.

I loved the feel of the Blockinator - it actually feels like you're drawing in material. But it's tricky to get the hang of shooting and platforming simultaneously. I think this is because you're using a square emitted object. Perhaps you should use something rounded - I got about halfway through the level, and I never ended up using a single block, because I either couldn't jump up on top of it, or I shot it at an angle, so it was corner - up.

The gameplay idea is very cool. I think you should polish it before you worry about any lingering concerns about appearance or story. If people are stopping, I guarantee it's just because of the gun...which I HOPE you can fix, because I want to replay it.
