Crash Bandicoot: Road To Nowhere

Archive: 59 posts

I'm planning to make a level based on one of the levels from the classic Playstation 1 platformer game: Crash Bandicoot. I have download the game from the psn store and I am going away tomorrow so I will start on it then.

The level is called Road To Nowhere.
Qg8zjpp7DIA
Note: The place he got to by riding on the see-through crystal is a bonus part of the level you can go to if you get up to that point without dieing. This is the same at the end of the level.

For The Planks
the sensor will be attached to a piece of dissolve material that is holding up a square with a magnetic key on it. The magnetic key falls and activates the magnetic switch which is attached to one of the planks which will be made of dissolve material (or a piece of dissolve material holding the plank up). This means the planks won't disappear as you step on them but a second or so after like in the video.

For The Background
It will be easy for the background as in the video it is very foggy and you can only see some far away mountains. This would be easy as I would just turn up the fog and make some mountains out of light brown coloured stone or wood.

Thanks to Whaaaaale for giving me me an idea to start on with the planks. I will try this while I'm away and then update when I'm back.

cheers,

muttjones

I owned all the Crash games so if this is done right it could be special Try to focus a lot on the color pallette, Crash games have a very vibrant look that would be amazing if you could duplicate it in LBP.2008-12-19 07:32:00

i'm trying to think which material or sticker would be best for the ground. it is a light dirt. I'll have to play it again.

If nothing in LBP works then create some custom stickers (assuming you have a PS eye) but I think with enough tinkering with the available materials you will be able to achieve the look you want.

I was seriously going to do that!

I played the game for a while before getting LBP and I thought to myself it'll be great if I recreate that!

Sandy Beach will be a bit hard, since it's 3D, but you can try all the other levels that are purely sidescrollers =D

Wasn't it "N.Sanity Isle"?
It definitely had "N.Sanity" in it...

I love the Crash games! They're simply the best 3D platformers. I wish you luck!

EDIT: Got the name! It's "N. Sanity Island"!

I can't remember how old I was when I played this, but I remember that it was the best PS1 game EVER!

This level can't be an epic phail, anything based on that game is superb.

That is a point.. are you aloud to do a Crash Bandicoot level? It would be super sweet though, if you could. Considering it was like my favourite ever game until they introduced fighting..

I think that if you throw in all of the credit to each company at the beginning of your level with a magic mouth, the mods will look at it and be like, "Ya know what, that's cool wit us."2008-12-20 21:56:00

Ugh, new Crash Bandicoot games SUCK.

I refuse to play them.
For me, Crash Bandicoot died after Crash Team Racing. This way, all his games are awesome.

I have a 4ft plushie of Crash, and all the PS1 games (some on Platinum & Normal).

It starts, you get washed ashore on your face, you jump up, spin attack the air, and you're off. Boxes, crabs, boxes, more crabs, boxes, climbing, aku mask, turtles.

Off the top of my head, I don't remember any turtles on the lower level.

I'm planning to make the first level of the Crash Bandicoot game for Playstation 1. It's called Sandy Beach or something like that. It starts of on the beach and then goes into the jungle. Jumping over pits and killing enemies are part of it. I plan to download the game from the playstation store after christmas so i can reference it (and also it is my favourite game of all time!).
I plan to make a Aku Aku Mask as well and have the wooden boxes with points inside (as well as the bouncy ones).

I was going to make a series of levels based on the film Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom but I think it is too ambitious for m first level. I'll be starting in the new year.

cheers,

muttjones

grrrr.

It's called N. Sanity Beach and I am the biggest crash freak You'll ever meet (up to Twinsanity, past that they're rubbish) I've completed crashes 1-twinsanity 100% and can fully complete crash 1 in under an hour. If you're gonna make this, it better be true to life.

nothing tops the originals but crash bash was alot of fun and crash twinsanity is easily he best new take on the old bandicoot. the latest two suck because they're all brawling and no platforming.

i'm going to buy all the crash games of the PSN store after christmas when i get the mgs pack.

Dude, i loved Crash Bandicoot, his were the first string of games i ever got for the PS1 and i loved them, but remember to put in the polar bear chase, and the big boulder chase in there (yes these were there, and i think in the first or second one, cant remember), but one of my favorite parts was if you were to fall, he would make a funny shout and his shoes would fly up out of the hole you fell in to, hahahaha good times.

Cheers!

i downloaded crash bandicoot today along with crash team racing and the mgs pack. i've played maybe a third of the game and there are alot of things that are not possible to do in lbp becuase we cannot have things move across the three layers (which is what should be second on Mm's need-to-do list behind online co-op creation). I think I might make a mash up level of the first five or so levels in crash. I have figured out a solution to having the stones that move back and forth.
I also think it is very possible to make a "road to nowhere" level but I need clarification on a question first.

Question: If you attach dissolve material to a sensor switch, can you set a pause between the sensor picking you up and the dissolve material dissolving?

EDIT:

in crash 2 they have the polar bear, in crash 3 they have the tiger but the original in crash 1 was a hog so i'll do that.

I'm not sure, you can always do it this way though.

Have a magnetic key attached to a square, have it up high, being held up by some dissolve material. Attach the sensor switch to the dissolve material, and now depending on how long you want the pause to be. You decide how far the magnetic key switch is from the key.

So basically it would fall down to the switch, either make the fall long or short. Depending on your pause length.

The magnetic key falls and activates the magnetic switch which is attached to one of the planks which will be made of dissolve material (or a piece of dissolve material holding the plank up).

seems hard to make. The bridge could be easy, just use strings to attach the planks together, then for the boards that dissapear (or break) use the dissolve stuff and when u step on it it dissolves.2009-01-06 03:29:00
