Ratchet & Clank: LittleBig Problem
Archive: 36 posts
This is the first level of Ratchet & Clank: LittleBig Problem, a project I am working on based off the original Ratchet & Clank adventure on PS2. these levels will feature almost everything from the original game, there will be a small number of problems though: When Ratchet dies, all defeated enemies will remain defeated, and ammo used up will refil. To counteract these issues the player will have limited respawns and when that runs out it's back to the start! And whenever the player respawns the player wont have much ammo (for example: The Bomb Glove will have as little as 10 ammo) I have estimated at least 100 levels will be released in total, here is the list of upcomming and published levels 02/07/2011 Ratchet & Clank: LittleBig Problem (Cinematic) 25/08/2011 Veldin (Locked: Key in Ratchet & Clank: LittleBig Problem) 18/11/2011 Veldin: Part 2! (Sub-level) Release N/A Drek's Plan (Cinematic) These levels are directed at the same audience as Ratchet & Clank, everyone! Well everyone who likes platforming, deep story, blowing stuff up, crazy weapons, and creative gadgets. These levels are out there for three reasons Introduce people to the world of Ratchet & Clank Nostalgia To show people what R&C would look like on LBP2 Of course you want a little preview of what to expect before diving into an unknown game, so here are some screenshots http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=32477 This is the logo I created for it, the font used for 'Ratchet & Clank' is based off of the font used throughout the first game the other two fonts you should recognise... http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=32723 This is planet Veldin, Ratchet's homeworld. http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=36955 This is Nanotech, it is your health, if you run out you die. http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=37169 This is a screenshot from Veldin here you see Ratchet (playable) normal crates, ammo crates, and a Horny Toad (a weak enemy) http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=37174 another Screenshot from Veldin, here you can see a collectible bolt and an Electroid (medium strength enemy) http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=38085 This is the Insomniac Games logo I have made, it can be found in the first level. Coming soon... http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=38329 This is a picture from the first scene in the level 'Drek's Plan'. You can see I have gone for a greater level of accuracy than in previous levels. (Clank is looking up, because the level is paused in Create Mode, he will not be looking up while in Play Mode) http://lbp.me/v/2fms58 | 2011-08-06 22:46:00 Author: ratchetruler Posts: 88 |
sounds good, will try it Also if you want any promotion for your level I am making a tv sorta level, which I and some other players will be making. Before or after or most likely inbetween shows, you can create a commercial for your level showing a few sneak peeks, this will give your level a big bang, as you can say "as seen on LittleBigToons" here is the link if you are interested: https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=61267-LittleBigToons-(HELP-WANTED) READ COMMERCIAL SECTION REPLY ON THE TOPIC Also if you or you know someone who will be interested in creating a show for the series, refer them to the link | 2011-08-06 22:49:00 Author: Robmandx Posts: 515 |
I'd like to put out an ad for your level, except I have just got too much going on, trying to get Veldin done before next weekend... | 2011-08-07 04:49:00 Author: ratchetruler Posts: 88 |
no worries, I am still looking for other shows you will have plenty of time | 2011-08-07 12:08:00 Author: Robmandx Posts: 515 |
Yea but you know what comes after Veldin... Another Cinematic... A big one! With Drek, Qwark, The Lieutenant, and The Novalis Chairman! Then I gotta do Novalis (this one will be Levil link heaven! With around three or four level links (It's alot for just one level!) | 2011-08-08 06:49:00 Author: ratchetruler Posts: 88 |
I've 'played'/seen your level. It was quite good mate, but a little too short no? I expected to see more. Nonetheless, I liked it! Only thing that I would change, is the fact that Ratchet doesn't show any emotion. Maybe you could make him act 'amazed' when the space shuttle crashes on 'his planet'? It's only an idea | 2011-08-08 07:53:00 Author: Cpt Yanni Posts: 36 |
Uh feedback! I love it Anyway, it is indeed short, but there will be more! A level link to gameplay! But yea I cut some stuff out I thought the level didn't need (for example, Clank's look around mode) But yea, he doesn't show much emotion on... PURPOSE? In the original game I assumed it was because he was actually yet to be introduced. He hadn't gotten a chance to speak (on purpose. The developers wanted Ratchet & Clanl's first words to be with each other) Beileve me, a little space ship crashlanding is the least of Ratchet's worrys | 2011-08-08 08:38:00 Author: ratchetruler Posts: 88 |
Well, I didn't play the first Ratchet and Clank But I fully believe you . | 2011-08-08 08:43:00 Author: Cpt Yanni Posts: 36 |
Lets say Ratchet was EXTREMELY moody in this game, and when Drek pushes it too far... He gets soo annoyed he... Purrs!!!! | 2011-08-09 08:59:00 Author: ratchetruler Posts: 88 |
Nice remake you have there i liked the fact it really looked like Ratchet and Clank and not just another level based on them without the style. I thought it was a litle short but nether the less a very good start. | 2011-08-09 10:06:00 Author: Lordwarblade Posts: 761 |
well Veldin could'nt be published this weekend for a number of reasons three of those being: 1. I have homwork 2. I haven't finneshed Veldin just quite yet... 3. I got one day left to make the most of Jak II & 3 before I gotta return them Next weekend maybe, but the weekend following next should be a better time... Should! | 2011-08-14 03:57:00 Author: ratchetruler Posts: 88 |
Well I have done it! I have completed Veldin... Nah Just kidding, but it is published, the darn thing was close to overheating and so I will link it to a part 2, it stops a the point where you meet the first robot. http://lbp.me/v/5nrsq7/comments Now chances are you aren't gonna go flying stright into it just now, so I will tell you what to expect. You will be controling a robot dressed up as Ratchet As you may know Ratchet is making his way to the crash site, and so he has not met Clank yet. He can do the normal jump, the double jump, swing his wrench, acess the quick select, use the bomb glove (which he DOES equip!) Commet strike (wrench throw) and of course the hyper strike. Now there will be some friendly (as if) Veldin Horny Toads! These buggers are nasty if you get too close! So stay clear of thier mouths! Now if you are silly enough to get bitten you will find that it is only a quater of your health that goes down... And if you don't like having A bite out of your health (or are struggling) later you will find some Nanotech that will restore one quater of your health! Now I am working on an ammo update for the Bomb Glove, because the current one only goes down and ammo pickups won't make it rise... So I have come up with a solution. BUT it will take forever to finnish, because the max is 40, and I am getting bad lag (in create, play is fine! (unless with another player) Hope you all like it | 2011-08-29 07:10:00 Author: ratchetruler Posts: 88 |
looks beast! ive queued it heres my level http://lbp.me/v/4wr838 | 2011-08-29 19:43:00 Author: YUBOY3 Posts: 116 |
I can promose you this people who plan on playing this level, or are going to replay it when I update things. Booth levels will be a bit different (as of next weekend) Because I wen't through the opening cinematic like a billion times and spotted a couple of things I felt needed improving! Then wen't into Veldin and DID it! I have completed the ammo update! The ammo looks far better now! And if you hold L1 you can fire your Bomb Glove and throw your wrench in look mode I also moved the ammo bar to the right side of the screen because I didn't want the score overlaping the ammo. So next weekend don't forget to check out this level's update (It isn't really too big) and check out Veldin's new ammo and Look Mode! | 2011-09-03 03:48:00 Author: ratchetruler Posts: 88 |
Well I have finished creating Veldin: Part 2! And It will be playable through level link only from Veldin on Friday! (Or Saturday) | 2011-11-09 03:43:00 Author: ratchetruler Posts: 88 |
Very nice job, hearted! What I liked: Very accurate recreations of the cutscenes in the game The bomb glove, while simple, looked very good Veldin looked like Veldin from the game, nothing major visually but that's what it's supposed to be like (have fun trying to recreate Metropolis ) Smooth recreation of the HUD Left me eagerly waiting for you to release the next part It's Ratchet and Clank! What I didn't like: There's no sound effect when you get hurt It's hard to see the weapons in the quick select menu, use the sticker panel (if you have it) When you throw the wrench, it doesn't look like you throw it because it just appears about a meter in front of you (use followers to make the boomerang effect) F4F on either level in my sig, please. | 2011-11-26 19:02:00 Author: PGdafrog Posts: 277 |
It all looks great but I'm having some trouble with the 1st part (Veldin). I can't seem to continue at some point, I have some pictures to show it. I assume you have to go behind this right? Can't seem to continue anywhere else otherwise. http://i3.lbp.me/img/ft/4b39d930808dde24fe7443c82c37da1cd024c809.jpg Then I come here right after. http://i6.lbp.me/img/ft/1463944e2def404e24c267a0be4a891c9a02648f.jpg And then there's nothing. All I can do is jump down and see the floor. http://i7.lbp.me/img/ft/7b766595bf469533867e1da54ab77b2638088c60.jpg Do you have parts of this level emitting when you reach certain points or something? If so, then there must be something wrong with the emitter. Don't know why else there would be nothing after this part. | 2011-11-27 00:58:00 Author: Firehuntah Posts: 75 |
First of all, I have to say that you have done an excellent job of recreating the original Ratchet and Clank game! I was absolutely stunned during the movie. It was just like Ratchet and Clank (only Little Big Planetified). I really liked the details of the crates, the bolts, the enemies, and the nanotech (health)! What I would change though is the ending of the first part in Veldin. It was kind of confusing because I thought the ship in the background was just a piece of scenery. I would also change the quick start weapon menu a bit. The camera was a little off and I couldn't see sometimes, and I didn't even know I had the Bomb Glove until the HelpDesk told me. Anyways, this was a very enjoyable level to play! Can you please play my level (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=65413-Sophia-s-Dangerous-and-Flooding-House) sometime? I would really appreciate it! | 2011-11-27 02:59:00 Author: FEAR Posts: 337 |
@PGdafrog I thought I put in a speechless sound in when Ratchet gets hit? I will try and find the problem with that (It could be because there is a lot of logic so some things were disabled or that it was to quiet, but I will certainly look into that, thanks. And I may have a solution to the weapon select menu's problems. I think I know what you mean with the whole wrench trow thing, the one Ratchet uses at the moment is quite rubbish really, and I am looking to update it. I will queue your levels and see if I can post a review about them @Firehuntah You were supposed to go behind the ship and walk into a sensor that would activate the Level Link I had hidden, the link must not have worked, I have never seen a level link fail before, but I suppose it can be possible, did you replay it to get the same problem? If you didn't replay it I would say you were disconneted for a little bit, as if you were playing it offline (thats all I could think of, but there may be another reason) @FEAR I see what you mean, and while testing the level I struck this problem too, the only solution I could think of would be setting a more zoomed out camera (this would also help with the problem that the enemies are shooting at you while offscreen. I will queue your level and play it when I am online next Thank you all very much for your feedback, you have helped greatly! | 2011-11-28 06:03:00 Author: ratchetruler Posts: 88 |

I'll try again today and see if it works this time. Edit: Ok, it worked this time. Don't know what went wrong yesterday then. Anyway, part 2 looks great as well and it's fun to play. Looking forward to the next part. | 2011-11-28 12:56:00 Author: Firehuntah Posts: 75 |
Next part is ages away I'm afraid, first I wanna fix up the problems with Veldin, then I gotta make the cinematic (it will be long, as this time I am going for insane accuracy) | 2011-11-28 19:55:00 Author: ratchetruler Posts: 88 |
@PGdafrog I thought I put in a speechless sound in when Ratchet gets hit? You might have done and I just didn't notice it . I only brought it up because I was happily strolling around Veldin and then suddenly realised that I had lost half my health! | 2011-12-03 15:33:00 Author: PGdafrog Posts: 277 |
Yea I need to do something to make it more obvious, I was thinking about making Ratchet jump backwards when hit... I think I will try and put that in as soon as I can. | 2011-12-04 21:21:00 Author: ratchetruler Posts: 88 |
to add in the jump backwards I would have to modify the Horny Toads and Electroids attacks (individually) and put some additional logic into the Ratchet, which is already pretty full. It could be done, but I dont have the time really. Fortunately I was able to modify the Quick select menu, the weapon slots that are free dont light up when you hover over them, which I think will help out, and you don't need to highlight the Bomb Glove to spot it! Now as soon as you hold triangle you will se it at the top. All three levels will be re-published next Saturday or Sunday (I will re-publish the first one because the HelpDesk mesages are improved, nothing fancy though) | 2011-12-09 02:25:00 Author: ratchetruler Posts: 88 |

I have estimated at least 100 levels will be released in total WHOA don't you think that's maybe a little excessive..? :/ Not only will that take monumental amounts of time and work in order to remain high-quality, (the quality will likely suffer with so many levels to work on) but most players will NOT have the attention span to play through such a long chain of level links. Maybe you could find ways to abridge the whole thing into a much more controlled and focused experience..? | 2011-12-09 20:43:00 Author: Hawk14 Posts: 105 |
@PGdafrog I'm afraid I don't know what you mean? @Hawk14 I have thought about it ALOT, and I drew out plans on how the levels could work, my initial idea was quite mad, and I had come up with an idea to give the player options of paths, here is an example from Veldin to Metropolis/Aridia Veldin > Aridia/Metropolis Veldin > Novalis > Waterworks > Caves > Crater > Aridia Veldin > Novalis > Waterworks > Caves > Crater > Metropolis Veldin > Novalis > Waterworks > Crater > Caves > Aridia Veldin > Novalis > Waterworks > Crater > Caves > Metropolis Veldin > Novalis > Caves > Crater > Waterworks > Aridia Veldin > Novalis > Caves > Crater > Waterworks > Metropolis Veldin > Novalis > Caves > Waterworks > Crater > Aridia Veldin > Novalis > Caves > Waterworks > Crater > Metropolis Veldin > Novalis > Crater > Waterworks > Caves > Aridia Veldin > Novalis > Crater > Waterworks > Caves > Metropolis Veldin > Novalis > Crater > Caves > Waterworks > Aridia Veldin > Novalis > Crater > Caves > Waterworks > Metropolis This is impossible as a minimum of 20 levels for that is absolutely mad, the entire project would consist of at least 200 levels, I am not making that. So I decided that it would be more linear, the player would not get to make choices like that, the entire plan would be more like Veldin > Novalis > Waterworks > Caves > Crater > Aridia > Skidd > Agent > Metropolis > Al > Course > Eudora > Suck > Lt. > BTS > Clank > Fred > Warship > Blackwater > Qwark > Hoverboard > Umbris The minimum at that rate would be about 100 levels (considering there would most likely be part 2's to most of those levels) I would like to avoid all the part 2's and part 3's but the Ratchet that is controlled is overly complicated, but there will be no levels any shorter than Veldin: Part 2! So the player should be able to explore quite a bit before being shoved into another Level Link. And don't worry, I can assure you quality will not suffer, I'm something of a perfectionist, and don't want to see my levels slipping back, if anything I hope that my levels may get better over time, as the cinematic I am focusing on right now, and the scenery I am designing to put into Veldin: Part 2! looks more accurate than ever. And the time between published levels is normally anywhere from one to three months depending on what I am doing in real life. And people may get tired of the length of it, but I am looking for accuracy, and if I do this right, it should be as long as the first Ratchet and Clank game, and I know that is long, but you can leave and come back later to pick up where you left off. Thak you very much for the feedback | 2011-12-09 22:32:00 Author: ratchetruler Posts: 88 |

Regardless of how devoted you are or how much time you have, that is a LOT of effort.... And I seriously doubt there'd be many people still playing LBP :/ | 2011-12-11 19:20:00 Author: Hawk14 Posts: 105 |
yes, I do wonder if people will be playing LBP in 16 and a half years... You are right, this will take a long time, I dont wanna make a rush job or anything, but I am going to have to make these levels happen faster than they are. Where I am the school holidays have started, so I have about a month or two of no distractions (except Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One) and I just finished the Ratchet Sackbot (yes beileve it or not, it took all year, but the thing is done, except he doesn't have all the weapons, but that bit won't be too hard). So if I crack down, and devote my holidays to this thing, I should be able to get the levels out there sooner than you think... Well sooner than I can think because I have no idea, all I know is it could surprise you... Or me? EDIT: I recently came up with a way of getting pictures of the internet and bringing them into LBP2! I do this by tracing it straight from the screen to some paper, and then bring the picture into the game with my Eye Toy, and use that picture to re-create whatever the picture is. I will spend today doing the Insomniac Games Logo. As you know I basically made one up for R&C:LBP as I didn't have the brains to come up with this tracing idea... That brings me to reveal my initial plan for this project... It wasn't going to be called 'Ratchet & Clank: LittleBig Problem', no it was going to be called 'Ratchet & Clank' no more than that. However I wasn't confident in my creating abilities early on, and didn't think I could make Ratchet & Clank's epic logo. But now I believe I can. So the question is obvious... Should I stick with Ratchet & Clank: LittleBig Problem, or should I stay true to the games original title Ratchet & Clank? | 2011-12-11 21:00:00 Author: ratchetruler Posts: 88 |
@PGdafrog I'm afraid I don't know what you mean? Sorry, I assumed you would know what I meant. In the move pack, there is a incredible new material called the sticker panel, it can be used for two things: Placing perfectly clear stickers Or what you want to make an easier to view HUD: A crisper, clearer version of hologram with no glow or animation I admire your commitment to this project So do I! Great work man. You are making a fantastic recreation of a brilliant game. When you've finished it in 16.5 years I'll... *stops himself before he says anything creepy* Should I stick with Ratchet & Clank: LittleBig Problem, or should I stay true to the games original title Ratchet & Clank? It's up to you, it's your level. (I know that doesn't really help) EDIT: You haven't played or reviewed either of my levels as part F4F, just a reminder. | 2011-12-12 21:58:00 Author: PGdafrog Posts: 277 |

Thank you very much for telling me this, if you hadn't told me I'd be using Hologram for the rest of this thing, now all I have to do is get Move and this pack You haven't played or reviewed either of my levels as part F4F, just a reminder. your absolutely right! I completely forgot Right now, I will write them all down on a piece of paper (not just yours, but everyone else that requested), and next time I am online I WILL make sure to play them and review them all | 2011-12-12 22:16:00 Author: ratchetruler Posts: 88 |

But couldn't you just use lbp.me instead of the paper? | 2011-12-13 18:34:00 Author: PGdafrog Posts: 277 |
I don't check my cued levels (that's why I forgot last time) A piece of paper is there physically, cant forgot something when its in your way And I will be starting on making the Ratchet & Clank Logo today, judging on how hard it was to make the Insomniac one, this could take a while, maybe a few days. I decided I would make the logo but keep the LittleBig Problem, and maybe put that underneath in a Going Commando style, or perhaps keep it LBP font, or maybe put Problem in that green font, but it will be hard to do since I have nothing to copy with that | 2011-12-13 18:54:00 Author: ratchetruler Posts: 88 |
Well here is the first look at my Drek's Plan level http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=38329 As you can see I am going to do it a lot more accurate than the first cinematic level I made I also went a bit crazy with the Sticker Panel Material too (everything except that tree is made of Sticker Panel) FYI: Clank is looking up because it is paused, he won't be staring up at the sky while the level is playing As for when this level will be ready for publishing? It could be any time between February and April (I go back to school in February, so that will slow things down). Some idea of how long this will take: This scene here I made yesterday, it took all day... But still, only one day. | 2012-01-04 01:27:00 Author: ratchetruler Posts: 88 |
ummmm. wow. at first glance I thought you put in a screenshot from the PS2 game. That looks amazing. very much looking forward to this | 2012-01-04 02:01:00 Author: biorogue Posts: 8424 |
Thank's to attacker444 next time you play through Veldin you will hear the great music originally created by David B! Instead of that horrid Savannah music... And in about two weeks you can expect some cool new changes: Ratchet has one wrench, he has two options: Throw it, or swing it. Most would prefer to just swing it, as normal Wrenches don't return to you after you throw them... Well this is an OmniWrench 8000! You throw this guy and he'll come right back. Ratchet's wrench normally slices through walls in the original game, why can't it do that in my remake? Well now due to Sticker Panel's awesomeness, it will pass through walls with ease. In my remake there is a minor issue: Ratchet does not stop when he throws his wrench! Well now he does! He will stay where he is until the wrench comes back. This will make playing more interesting (and making throwing your wrench less of a cheat) I'm gonna let you know now that there is a way to get twice as much bomb glove ammo in the first Veldin level! Why am I telling you? Because this is fixed and in a few weeks you cant do it... Hold L1 and use your bomb glove, the rate of fire is very fast! In two weeks it wont be a problem though. | 2012-01-19 22:10:00 Author: ratchetruler Posts: 88 |
