Fighting Fantasy: Talisman of Death

Archive: 8 posts

Wow;
I just heard the news that Steve Jackson and Ian Livingston (Gods Amongst Men) - were behind a new PSN mini based on one of their classic books;

The Fighting Fantasy series (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fighting_Fantasy)was basically how I learned to read, before I discovered those, books were boring.
Then, after finding Fighting Fantasy books, all of a sudden they were fun. They were a GAME.

It also looks like this Mini is above the average standard of most Mini's.

I'm hoping they'll make the entire series of Fighting Fantasy's.

It's nice to see that they've poured such love and affection for the original material through to the Mini itself.

Interesting story, bro. Looks pretty cool actually. I wonder if it will take off though, as modern gamers are over stimulated, and this is relying on tabletop visuals as it would seem.2011-08-06 20:35:00

I know.
Remember books?
Those things with lots of pages and words... ahh, those were the days

"Older people, remember things? Actual things. And you could touch them. The physical world I’m talking about, remember, older people? And there were loads of things...there’s letters and...you know...a stick...and there’s clay. Loads of stuff. And it was all real and it all existed, yeah? Not like now."

The presentation is quite slick for a tabletop rpg.2011-08-07 02:04:00

So I bought this yesterday, but only managed to have a quick shot while half asleep at 2 am (& it made me late for work the next day!);

But WOW - seriously WOW.
I had forgetten how well written the Fighting Fantasy books are.

It made me feel like I was 8 years old again - it's been that long since I had read the book that it all seemed new to me - although the odd descriptive scene did fire up my nostaligia.

Is this the best Book adaptation to Game ever?
It could easily be - yes.

Obviously it's text heavy, being essentially a book with an inventory/character sheet... but it's such an enjoyable read - and the twists and turns in the story are genuinely difficult to guage what the correct course of action should be.

There's also no holding your finger on a page while you flick to your decision and then making the opposite decision when you were wrong - or just auto-assuming you pass a luck/combat/skill test. - which I think everyone who read a fighting fantasy book did at some point.

I would encourage everyone to buy this game - if only for my own selfish purposes, in that I want to see them make Death Trap Dungeon, or The Warlock of Firetop Mountain aswell.

unfortunately, or as I like to say in this case funfortunately, I am an overstimulated American teenager... I like DnD as much as the next guy... Maybe more. But I need some flashy seizure educing graphics when I sit down to a VG. I might pick up the physical books tho 2011-08-18 15:41:00

I guess I love it because it's combining my two favourite activities - reading and gaming... it's why I've always loved those books.

But... you were looking for a Non-Violent game to play ;
This is it! (even if it does contain violence )

It's actually really fun, you basically just absorb the information from the paragraph and then try and choose what would be the best option based on your available options;
Eg)
"On the Horizon, you see a group of warriors clad in black armour riding towards you, though they have not yet seen you.
Do you -
: Run Away (turn to page 102)
: Run Towards them (turn to page 34)
: Hide in some nearby bushes (turn to page 85) }

The correct course of action never seems to be the one you would think.

I actually had plans to make Death Trap Dungeon into a LBP level - though it turned out to be far more complex than I could manage.
