Hello Fellow Happy Gadders, I've got a quick question for you all. What kind of Creator are you?

I like to think I specialise in visuals, I'm not too good at the logic side of things.. 2011-08-06 14:49:00

Poll seems a little odd. Surely 'Scenic/Logical' and 'Sidescrolling/Top-Down' are 2 separate fields? I mean, Creator1 could be best at scenic sidescrolling levels, while Creator2 builds uber complex, top-down strategy levels?

Poll aside, I'd say I favour logical, top-down levels. The vast majority of my unfinished projects are, anyways.

Why isn't platforming an option? Most levels are platformers.. Does 3D side scrolling mean a platformer with 3D layer glitch or something like Hazbells "Fresh meat"?
I have only made a top-down game really but i love to make and play everything.. I really need to learn to use that 3D layer tool better.. Seems like everyone loves the rich visuals they bring. Also being able to make custom backgrounds is pretty win..

Logical mostly. I'm pretty bad with scenery. As for type and genre, I'll make anything: Shooter to platformer, top-down to sidescroller.2011-08-06 21:46:00

I'm a Logical/Top Down Creator

Hey now, let's keep this clean. This is a family site.
.............oh..... I was thinking something completely different. Never mind.

I'd say I do logical, scenic (not my strongest point), and miscellaneous (with an emphasis on vehicles and visual effects). I guess sidescrolling too: haven't done anything with my top down just yet--I'm just not that kind of guy.... unless you buy me a drink first.

I'm a Logical type of guy. Y'know, sackbots, top-down, and maybe movies if that counts. Scenic is my weakest point but whatever.2011-08-06 23:46:00

I focus heavily on advanced logic.

I think a "Musical" option should be included in the poll.

Definantly a logic dude, my entire rpg is just a ton of logic basically. It contains so much, its 4 months later and im still working on logic mostly. Good thing i got artist to do the other things lol I think if i didnt decide to do my own project, i would have been a more visual person though. I do like art, i just haven't had a ton of time to do it in LBP besides complex sackbot animations and spell effects.

I feel composers should be added to the list, for the people that mostly work on music. Personally i find it pretty impressive and a classification all on its own.

I'm still learning, though my strongest field is basic/intermediate logic. I'm not good at making much else, though.2011-08-07 01:18:00

Logic, and misc. objects. I often get bored on a single subject after a while (things like a trivia game, people-moving machine on rails, basic tutorial on good design, etc). So now it is just random objects.
-------------
Only that, my objects tend to contain lots of mechanics in their construction (even if I could easily make a more advanced-feeling system without the mechanical parts).

For example, I am currently building a personal hub level (several reasons, such as backups, and my bloated heart list ). To enter the section with private stuff, you either have to present a sticker, or enter a code.

I could easily have done a simple wobble-bolt based door.. but oh no, that is far too normal to be used . Instead, I have built a mechanical bolt system, based on gravity (the door rotates by it's axis, and is locked by a dropbolt - the bolt unlocks when a piston pushes a heavy steel ball to the other side of a swinging metal bar, withdrawing the dropbolt by it's sheer weight; in contrast, one can lock the door easily by pulling a mechanical lever, tipping the ball to the other side).

And if that wasn't enough security, there is a explosive-based security system just behind the door (somehow get past the door+go too far, and the explosive box will go off dropping a indestructible solid metal bar to block the passageway).

------

TLDR : Logic, misc. (and mechanics)

hm, well, when i create it's mostly platformers, since platforming is the easiest genre to start with in lbp. story and music comes first eventhough i know i should start with the gameplay and continue from there. (i always get stuck or loose interest during cutscenes and text) i always get this genius idea to scroll through diffrent genres to make it intresting. but the idea is always scrapped before i even start. xD
anyway, since i use a bunch of random stuff in my levels i need to use alot of logic but it's just some basic things so i doubt it would count as a logic level.
as for scenic.. i try to make it realistic at first, but i mostly fails from there i go into a little more cartoony style, just plain materials in a nice pattern or coloured cardboard.

so; platforming and alot of (really basic) logic, mixed with a fancy cartoony scenic.
