Need help on making a player location dot map thing.

This is what I am planning for my rts. It is top down so you can just use the concept if your map is liner. I am putting 2 player sensors(or tag sensors if you are using an avatar) one for each player, spaced wide apart all over my map. Choose the density for how high res you want the mini map to be. Then I am making a mini-map outta LEDs with all the coorisponding LEDs packed close together for the mini part of mini map. So a player can move 8" on screen but until he enters the next sensors range he won't move on the minimap. If you want terran on the map just use colored hologram. Easy right?
