Sackboy Jones and the Journey to El Dorado: took 50 hours to make please heart

Archive: 13 posts

have been making this level ever since I got LBP and am planning on making a trilogy. This level took me at least 50 hours to make and would greatly appreciate for people to play it and rate me well as long as you think I deserve it. I have tried hard to put polish and challenege in this level.

My level has:

-Storyline that will span 3 levels
-Characters
-Vehicles
-2 Player Challenge
-Sticker Trigger
-Innovative puzzles and obstacles
-Fun!!!

Thanks!

SPOILERS - don't read, just go play it. It's great.

The vehicle is cool - your map logo is awesome...

Trap spike that actually surprises you! NICE! Rolling boulders aere detailed, and look nice... background and lighting in this part are great with the stickers used for cracks and foliage and native art - good tree position and sticker design. Nice camera angles...

lmao @ the dictators - awesome. ugh Hitler is censored, probably because of his name.

Custom built alligator heads, to look submerged in water... nice - the spike teeth are well used here... put some brown glass layer there, just a little ripple and wave looks to go with the smoke. Your coloring in this level is great. That was a good platforming segment.

Stickers on the checkpoints... I do that too, and I like it. Ooo... AWESOME waterfall and bridge. That part rocked. NICE use of darkness here and candlelight. The coral stickering there. Finally, someone with an eye for details.

El Dorado gate... gorgeous architecture. Awesome contact puzzle.... I like all this dialogue so far. **** Nazis.

Treasure chests are beautiful... man. lol @ i got stuck in one. AND you got me again with the traps...

Someone joined right aty the 2x part, thank God. This 2x thing is awesome. Only good one I've seen in a user level so far too. That chest is a great prize.

ugh - partner killed us

lol @ these guys getting killed by the traps on my replay, they react funny like "oh no, boulder... where do I go?"

Move that checkpoint by alligators back a little, the respawn camera keeps screwing people up, but it's still doable.

I just used the chest to trap someone, it was entertaining. Best movie/trademark lev ever.

I just got a networking error... 3rd replay :/ but I'm pressing enter on this just to get this part out of the way. So far I love this level. Mainly for your nice mechanics and surprises, aesthetics and overall attention to detail and shape variety. Lots of variety too. I'm not even done and I hearted it.

Edit: Just finished... great, every step of the way. This is one of those levels you'd be proud to have aced.

There's already many images of the indy sackboy I did online so I can't really stop you from using those if you want to do posters or something. But I -can- hook you up with extra poses or something if that's of any interest. I'll play your level later.2008-12-19 00:37:00

Ok me and OCK just played your level, I'm going to leave some feedback.

The pros

-I really liked the spiked death traps, one thing I would do is have a warning sign. Or something, you really don't expect that, and having them is fine, but when you have the only checkpoint in the car waaaaay back there, it can get a little frustrating.

-The way you implemented having the cracked (stone?) or whatever, and having the players try to fix it was really clever, I'll give you props for that.

-Your first x2 section was really well thought out and was really a great part of the level.

-Your theme was pretty solid, one part ( get to it soon ) didn't fit in though.

Suggestions

- Ok so, my first suggestion would to be to add some warning signs, or have it so there is a skull sticker, next to each deathtrap, it would be subtle but the smarter players would soon catch on and be cautious of where they are going.

- I didn't get to finish the level, and I will tell you why. The section with the needing to grab the key and whatnot, this section was really difficult, and I know for a FACT that the average player would not keep trying like me and OCK did, we used about 16 lives doing the ceiling grab thing, and with the lighting being very dark, and the fire rising up, it's pretty hard to see what you are doing.

- This is where we said, it would be wayyy to frustrating/annoying for the players. Ok sooo after about 12 lives or so, we had gotten the key, grabbed it and took it all the way past the spikes (which is also very difficult and for the casual gamer would be hard to pass with or without the key) so when we got past the spikes and in the treasure chest room, this part was really not well thought out IMO. The bombs coming out of no where doesn't help the fact that the player just basically went through hell, only to be rewarded with bombs being bombarded onto them. We were glad the key wasn't destroyed so we kept moving.

- At this section, I had moved the key near the rising platforms, one of the platforms completely destroyed the key, making it impossible to continue. One suggestion I have here is to make it so when the key activates it, it stays On Permanently. This could be achieved in many ways, one of which is to use a permanent switch. If you don't know what it is feel free to PM me and I will tell you how to obtain/create one.

Overall, the level had a good all around theme. All the obstacles/challenges fit in well, but the difficulty was too high, I don't know if that's what your going for but that may be the reason why you have been getting many "frustrating" remarks. With a few tweaks here and there, you can turn the whole table around and switch your heart/play ratio completely.

Again, I am not trying to pick on you or your level, I am strictly giving you constructive feedback. Hope you take this all into consideration! Good job so far!

Yeah dude that is awesome thanks!!! I am most definetley aiming for making a difficult level because most levels are just way to easy. Alot of what you say makes sense.2008-12-21 06:59:00

It seems there are too many which are just far too easy, but I find many creators are going all out to make the most difficult levels possible. Or maybe what they find easy since they built it is much harder than they realize. You've got a pretty good balance here, but I have to concur with Whaaaaale about the firery grab ceiling. I tried it over and over, but just could not make it. The one time I thought I had made it, sackboy ended up falling behind the obstacles somehow and ended up under the firepit ...

Much like your (quite awesomely designed) map is cleverly hidden, the firery bit would be a good place for another such item. But when I got down to the gate only to see I needed the key, well, my heart sank a little.

Everything else was great, though. The Pitfall-like alligators were hilarious and fun. And the opening sequence is clever. The community map you put in will have Indy fans drooling.
