music sequencers unlike regular sequencers dont have a speed scale option. this is rather unfortunate, because i just thought of an awesome idea where music would change speeds. is there a work around?2011-08-05 10:54:00

Two overlapping tracks (there's a 1-2 second gap in there but you can fudge it by sequencing sequencers (ha) using actual sound effects and musical sounds from the Tools popit to play and clutter the soundtrack while it transitions into the other song, at the other speed.

A better option, though more meticulous, is to just build your song at 200 or 240 BPM to allow yourself enough microbeats to "fake" lower speeds by simply extending the duration of and frequency of notes/beats. You can easily achieve 3-beat measures and jazzy effects this way as well, you just have to ignore the color-coded 4/4 measures and work with relative rhythm.

I built an 8bit song at 240 that speeds up and slows down all over the place... or rather simulates it. Hit me up when you're online this weekend and I'll show you.

If it's for the LBPCentral contest for sequencing, that's quite cool, you could do such as low gravity during slower speeds, etc. I assume you'd want to trigger the song to slow down when the player enters an area or something, which is a challenge, but if you're working with a fixed soundtrack and just want to go from, say, 120 to 140, then down to 110 within the song, you can do this quite easily.

if you have 2 tracks going wouldn't it always start from the beginning once triggered? hmmm i had an idea where i would be able to slow or speed up time. an figured doing so to the music aswell would add to this effect.

I suppose the only way to change the speed of a sequencer is to split it into separate sequencers, have the first part of your tune up to the point you want the tune to change tempo, place a battery at the end plugged into a second sequencer set to a different BPM, have the battery in place of where you would have the first note of the slowed tempo, this should transition into the slower tempo without any gap in the tune. Make the slowed section as you would normally on the slower sequencer and repeat the same process for returning the song to its normal tempo. So you have a song across 3 (or more) sequencers.

Sadly there's no way of getting a tempo to gradually decrease, (unless you do this basic process over a number of sequencers all slowed slightly, linking the end of each into the next with a battery, could work?) but i think this should be the best way to do it.
