Diagnose Me Please!

Archive: 14 posts

Ok, so I just got home from vacation and fell asleep pretty quick since I was beat, but I felt great. When I woke up I had terrible aching pains all over my body, a throbbing headache, a bad fever, a slightly runny nose and a sore swollen throat. It's been two days now and the aching pains have gone away, the headache is gone and so is the fever, but it's still hard to swallow food even though my throat doesn't hurt that much. Hopefully my throat heals up, but if it doesn't, and if the other symptoms return, I want to know what I am dealing with.

Any opinion is helpful!

Sounds like some kind of bacterial infection in your throat. (I'm... Not a doctor) I had the same thing a year or two ago. Better see a doctor, they put me on antibiotics, and it went right away.2011-08-04 17:37:00

I think Ive had that before, you have a flu of some sort ,if it persists, go to a store nearby and see if they have theraflu flu and chest congestion, then buy it both the daytime and nighttime. Its available in hot liquid formulas, multi symptom caplets, and syrups. if it persists for more than a week or you feel as if it isnt working i suggest you go see a doctor.2011-08-04 17:37:00

Dr. Lurve is in the House!
If you were female I'd ask you to pop your top off so I could get a better look

Ostensibly - sounds like Flu;
Though many viruses display "Flu-Like" symptoms.

The fact you were on holiday means it may just be your immune system adjusting to germs that you picked up while on holiday.. as all the symptoms you describe are caused by your bodies fight against the virus.

When I got back from visiting my parents I had those same symptoms for a week and couldn't eat or anything, this was around the time of swine flu so I assumed it was that. You just caught something nasty on the plane.

Edit: And what is it with all these health threads lately?

Maybe there's something in the water.

I went to my doctor today and asked him to play my level.

So I'm terribly sick and I don't have a clue about what it is. Let's see I have two options:
-Consult a qualified doctor
-Get a diagnosis through the internet

The former option will lead me to certain recovery, the latter will get me unsure, unqualified opinions about what ails me and potentially make me develop Hypochondriasis. Hmm, it's a tough choice. Eh, let's go with the internet.

Thanks for the advice guys! I went to see a doctor yesterday and found out I had Strep Throat. This is the first time I've had it. I am on anti-biotics for the first time too, but everything should clear up soon. Thanks again!

Oh, and by the way, the reason that there are so many health threads lately is probably because people usually hate going to the doctor. Still...they should.

I had a creeping suspicion that was what it was, but I also didn't spend 12 years earning my doctorate and another 2 years in residency, so... who could have possibly known for sure?

Anyways, I once had strep throat and no insurance and put off going to the doctor for the longest time, hoping it would go away. It didn't. An emergency room trip and a peritonsillar abscess (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmedhealth/PMH0001981/) later, I had learned my lesson. If you feel sick and your symptoms persist or get worse, seek medical attention from a professional. In other words, not here.

The only reason I asked about it here was because I felt like I was getting better, but my throat just wouldn't heal. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't making a big deal out of something that would clear up on it's own. I agree though, anytime you feel like there's a good chance you have something serious, don't rely on the internet.

Better safe than sorry.
