LittleBigNetwork Attacked as Well?
Archive: 12 posts
So I really can't confirm until someone in charge over there speaks out, but I recently got this Email: http://content.screencast.com/users/comphermc/folders/Jing/media/f8ded2ce-61e3-40bd-a07f-1226b2e1ce7e/2011-08-04_0019.png This is less than a week after LittleBigLand was attacked, potentially compromising passwords and such. If you are a member of LittleBigNetwork, and you use the same password elsewhere, I would take the necessary precautions, given the circumstances. In fact, if they are using a vulnerability in the vBulletin software, LBPC could be at risk as well. Take that with a major grain of salt, but do what you need to protect yourself. Anyone have any other information to provide? Edit: Relevant post from B-coli over at LittleBigLand (http://www.littlebigland.com/forum/showthread.php/15342-We-re-back!?p=221860&viewfull=1#post221860). The evidence suggests that there has been some sort of attack, but the extent is currently unknown. | 2011-08-04 05:24:00 Author: comphermc Posts: 5338 |

VB has sent some emails regarding vulnerabilities within their software (one including an exploit with the AdminCP.) They have released several patches to cure the exploits. I appreciate when they do this because it alerts me to such dangers within the software and allows me to reproduce them to ensure that such vulnerabilities do indeed exist before being patched. | 2011-08-04 05:53:00 Author: Enlong3 Posts: 357 |

If you are a member of LittleBigNetwork, and you use the same password elsewhere, I would take the necessary precautions, given the circumstances. Realistically, a hacker would only bother cracking an admin password, so if you're not an admin, I wouldn't worry too much. Still, there's always a chance a hacker would target a specific non-admin user for some personal reason, so it's perhaps worth knowing that there are no vBulletin exploits which actually reveal your password to the hacker, because vBulletin doesn't actually store your password. It only stores your password hash, which the hacker must then crack using a brute-force attack, so as long as you have a strong password (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Password_strength), you have nothing to worry about. In fact, if they are using a vulnerability in the vBulletin software, LBPC could be at risk as well. Take that with a major grain of salt, but do what you need to protect yourself. LBPC is currently up-to-date with all security patches, so we're not at risk from any known vulnerabilities. I got a email like that from Littiebigworkshop today... You sure? LBW uses a completely different forum system. | 2011-08-04 10:50:00 Author: Aya042 Posts: 2870 |
Can't say that I'm aware of any such issues with the LittleBigWorkshop. Everything seems to be normal to me. | 2011-08-04 10:57:00 Author: StevenI Community Manager Posts: 420 |

All issues resolved, latest forum updates/security patches installed. As Aya posted it is always advisable to use strong passwords in all online activity. During the LBL hack LBN was happy to act as a communication conduit/temporary home to many LBL sacks, might've attracted the original hackers attention. All safe and secure now. | 2011-08-04 11:27:00 Author: EnochRoot Posts: 533 |
Would Sackcast be at risk? I am only a member here and there. Also why cant people be reasonable ans not hack into other peoples business? | 2011-08-04 11:32:00 Author: craigmond Posts: 2426 |
Also why cant people be reasonable ans not hack into other peoples business? Mainly becuase they have no business of their own....living in their mothers basement, never washing, surviving on a diet of energy drinks, relieving the sadness of their isolated existence and bolstering their fragile warped egos by hacking other peoples fun or chatting to pretty girls in online chat rooms (who in reality also happen to be hackers ..living in their mothers basement, never washing, surviving on a diet of energy drinks, relieving the sadness of their isolated existence and bolstering their fragile warped egos by hacking other peoples fun or chatting to pretty girls in online chat rooms ) | 2011-08-04 11:40:00 Author: EnochRoot Posts: 533 |
