Score board, level links questions...

Archive: 19 posts

With my first level almost complete (sneaky peek link here) :

https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=61107-Caverns-in-the-making-%28part-1-images%29

I have a few questions. I would like to publish my 1st level with a level link to the 2nd part which is not yet complete (this will be locked). Then on the other side next to it, further along I will place my score board with a sign saying ‘the chosen level title: The rescue part 2 coming soon’

When my 2nd level is ready (sub-level link) can I go ahead and unlock it, then delete the score board so just the level link to the 2nd sub-level is there? Then republish.

Does it allow me to delete a score board so I can do a level link instead? Or once scores are uploaded on my published level, are they permanent? As I would then put the end score board in the 2nd level once it's ready.

Also how do you upload pictures to that level for others to see? Is it the same as simply taking the photo in play or create mode and hitting upload or do I need to be in it?

Just wondering before I publish it all.

The reason I would like to get my 1st ever level out there is to get feedback and suggestions into account before I finalise or start the next level. Since it’s my first time I’d like to take it all on-board and improve as a creator with F4F and level showcase.

The score on the level would stay unless you delete the whole level and republish it losing all plays.

It looks good btw.

So what you're saying is once a score board is put down in a published level, it cannot be deleted/taken out/replaced with a level link?

Thanks for the nice comment.

It can be replaced but the score will remain.

Actually since the scoreboards are down anyway you don't need to worry about it for a while.

Sorry about my noobish questions, but what do you mean 'the score will remain', if the score board isn't actually there and I replace it with my level link?

BTW I take a long time to create anything in LBP so it's more likely the scoreboards will be back up and running by the time I get the 2nd sub-level done.

Deleting the scoreboard from your level will not erase your hiscore listings. If you put a scoreboard in your second level and people land on that, the score from the first level will carry over through the level link and be added to the points scored in the second level.2011-08-03 18:05:00

Yep. You could also tweak your scoreboard and add a level link directly to it.

You need to take a photo in the level after it's published and upload it before exiting the level (though restarting the level is OK). A maximum of 3 photos will be shown in the little slideshow, and they're shown in the reverse order you uploaded them in.

Thanks for explaining in more detail. That means I can go ahead and finish it up and publish it with the scoreboard and level link, locked, until it's ready to be unlocked.

Some more questions from what I've found out

1. What's the difference between linking a normal level and a sub-level then?

2. Can I link it to a level called 'the chosen title: part 2 coming soon' then change the name taking out the words 'coming soon'? Basically once I've linked it to a published level am I free to change the link to another level or rename that level it's linked to. I'm guessing the answer is yes, but more details/confirmation would be nice.

3. If scores are carried over to the sub-level does this mean items collected and acing the 1st level carry over? As I'm hoping to give special prizes for collecting all items (probably just 3 items as I don't want to clog up peoples community objects) and for acing it. I ask as I watched a level on youtube that had a level link and the player died in the 1st level but by the end of the 2nd level it said 'no lives lost'. Doesn't look like it carried over, or this may be becuase it was not a sub-level but a normal level?

A Sub-level can only be played by going through it's link in a different level. So player would need to play level 1 in order to get to level 2.

The level links auto-update whenever the level they link to is updated.

I think that the level needs to be a Sub-level for Ace and Items to carry over be I'm not sure.

I don't think that's correct. IIRC you can also upload the pictures from your pod, they'll "remember" in what level they were taken.

Is there anything else I should know about scoreboards and level links before publishing? Can you even start a cutscene as soon as you enter a sub-level?

Tips and advice welcome.

If you put a scoreboard in your second level and people land on that, the score from the first level will carry over through the level link and be added to the points scored in the second level.

...but if the second level is a sublevel (which is supposedly the plan here), the scores will be associated with the first level.

Sublevels have an independent play count, but any scores, photos, comments, reviews, likes, dislikes, or hearts are added to the main level.

OK, I'm a bit confused now. Is it best to link a level as a normal level or a a sub-level then? (Since I will be deleting the scoreboard in part 1 when part 2 is ready).

Just a brief summary of the levels. Part 1, has a short intro about two children missing in the caverns. So you journey deep through the caverns. Part 2 (due to thermo) is the rescue where you find them.

If you are deleting the scoreboard you should make it a Sub-level. Sub-levels are for when a level isn't finished by the time the thermo gets mad.

Some months back when I first published a level, photos would definitely only show up in that mini slideshow if I uploaded them before leaving the level (I don't remember if other uploaded ones forgot what level they came from or if they just weren't put into the slideshow). I remember being a little surprised at that limitation at the time, maybe it's not the case any more.

OK great thanks. Do sub levels show up on your moon when other people visit? If so I'll have to add part 1 and part 2 to each each level in case someone plays part 2 before part 1.

Sublevels don't show up on your Earth. Except for the level link and load time it'll seem like one level to players.2011-08-08 15:00:00

Great, then I don't need to bother putting part 1 and part two in the level title. Want to keep it short ad sweet.

I would like to add in a few prizes into the 1st level on the score board and then a few in the 2nd level to make up the prizes for getting the 'level complete' and 'collected all items' prize. Do items from the 1st carry over after I have removed the scoreboard and placed it in the 2nd level. I'm assuming if you add any items and change them it will just auto-update both levels. I know my questions are 'big' questions, just finding out a few things that are bugging me before I publish and it goes into testing phase.
