Community Font Kit 2.1.1

Archive: 33 posts

Hi All,

I searched high and low to see if a font kit built for LBP2 existed couldn't see one so created this. Thanks goes to all the creators in the kit. I did my best to reach out to seek approval from the biggest contributers to use them and the response was very friendly and helpful.

So I present the Community Font Kit. The font's have been completely unlocked to the full extent of the LBP2 world! By that I mean, you just need to spawn it and capture it. The new font will be completely open

Each and every letter is individually emitted. In the case of fonts where letters are made from multiple parts, selecting one bit will select the entire letter.

Once emitted you can capture the entire alphabet and place it back into the emitter to save space.

The kit is available in both Hologram and Sticker Panel materials.

An example of a Font Kit:

...and where may we find such a useful tool?

Why is it that I never think of these simple ideas?

This is a really helpful collection of many of the well known community fonts out there, all helpfully packaged on to neat little microchips, containing emitters of the fonts we all know and many of us use.

The only issue that I do have is... well, they're not technically perfect. When the font is emitted, it is still classed as a single object, and as such you still have to stamp it out of material in order to seperate the letters. I'm not sure if this was your intention or not, or if it's even possible to emit the letters as seperatable objects, but it's not a huge issue as I generally stamp them out when creating anyway.

EDIT: Retracted after schm0 kindly shared some useful information (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=50900-HOW-TO-Get-LBP1-Alphabet-Fonts-Working-In-LBP2) with me!

Thank you, however, for this wonderful space-saving kit! I'm storing all my fonts this way from now on!

I swear I've been doing the same thing. I've been going through all my fonts and putting them on the Creator's Toolkit chip. Saves a lot of space. I'll be sure to check this out as I may have have missed a few. I'm a font junky. Thanks.2011-08-03 18:55:00

Perhaps make a note of how to fix them in the level itself, and in the MC.

Also, are you accepting fonts? I recently made one. Nothing special, but it works.

Hmm... there is a short tutorial, but some pretty smart people missed it. Didn't think of putting a 'help' chip in the actual kit. Makes sense!

I guess it's hard to follow, any feedback to make clearer would help!

As for accepting fonts... didn't think of that either! I actually have 1 font that I made that I didn't include I guess I could. If it gets a little out of control I may share it out to the to the creator kit account.

Thanks for doing this!

I know I made the level copyable, but as you said, not all were included. They are just too thermo intensive!

Speaking of thermo, how much does this object take up on its own?

(I have no PS3 privileges this evening, alas!)

EDIT: Oh yeah, and would you be interested in the pixellated font I have in my level (http://lbp.me/v/4e7947)? It's similar to one of Comph's but with a bit different style.

My title scene took around 2 to 4 notches on my thermo then over heated (this was yesterday). So I've had to make do without it. My scene was a very small one, using four words. So you can probably guess how much each whole font set would take up based on that as a rough estimate.2011-08-04 00:49:00

The leve with the gifts takes two notches.

Having all MCs out (30+ fonts) in your own font level is pretty friendly. They do take a while to pullout of the toolbag, and thermo jumps around when you first place them, but settles down with breathing room to make some text in peace.

I made another font yet, but I haven't "released" it on account of not having any good way of doing it.

You could start up something big with this Mr!

I'm seeing a HUGE hub of community fonts, with holo-screen previews and diabolical contraptions of fonty wonderfulness, further surrounded by epic landscapes of font....

Yeah, I know, OTT. But still, this thing could catch on

In all seriousness. I am glad to hand over the entire chip to you if you want to curate it yourself or will add it to your creator fontcase if you don't mind me doing so.

I just queued your level, but I don't see why not!

Thats an interesting idea...

Maybe one font spawns and its not a font just a lead weight the crushes you? But... the weight says FONT on it... A weighted font.

If people are interested I can start updating with other fonts if it is truly to become a hub... I already have two more people to add and the hardest part about the process now is choosing a good sticker for the creator... I mean comphermc's was a no brainer. Actually Arcas-X chose his own when I showed him my intentions... And Schm0's could be that New Life Sticker... hmm

I approve of the "New Life" sticker idea! I like!

My font isn't anything special, and right now it's blown up pretty big to match the grid, so there's thermo to consider. I also need to fix up a couple of the lowercase letters, but I've got a full-fledged font with upper and lowercase letters and numbers. And if you're still interested I'll throw in an apostrophe, quotes, period, question mark, exclamation mark, brackets and parentheses for the fun of it.

Is there any sort of standard font size?

hmm... not really I tried to make them all spawn from the same lower left hand point, but didn't resize any of them.

I think that thermo won't be an issue as I'm thinking that workflow wise most people will have a font stage where they assemble the text and use the Move Sticker Material and the emitters do a pretty good job of keeping the font stage's thermo down.

So it all works as described it seems... I'm a little paranoid that they're not but no one is going back an booing the stage... As I type that I doubt it but yeah I'm still worried...

Hah, yeah, you'll rarely get boos if it's an item level that they need to go back to their moon to see. Any one that hates it just forgets about it, and anyone that likes it, finds the level again. I've got a ratio of 108:1 for my logic level .

Also, had my font ready, but decided to add some more symbols. I'll send it to you when it's done.

So you did find a cure for fonts! I'm glad you finally got this out and published I found it via the cool pages so that was a nice surprise I really like this becasue I basically compiles all my favorite fonts. mainly Lite_Sleeper and Comphermc's. Loved the presentation of it with the microchip expansion being incorportated, made it a fun way to follow along in play mode. Thanks for the kit dude 2011-08-05 16:57:00

The Community font kit has had an extensive overhaul, and is now available as Hologram or Sticker material!

Previously; there were some issues with fonts still being locked, some painstaking pre-packaging has resolved this.

Each and every letter is now individually emitted. The result is individually selectable letters without any extra effort.

In the case of fonts where letters are made from multiple parts, selecting one bit will select the entire letter also.

Once emitted you can capture the entire alphabet and place it back into the emitter to save space.

More fonts are on the way.

Ok, I will try again tonight.

Last night I tried and the first time I let it load I had time to fix a sandwich, eat it and clean up. It still had not finished. I got a little frustrated. lol
Tried a second time and after 12 minutes it still had not loaded so I gave up.

Hope my next post here will be "YAH it loaded."

Just played the level now (and thanks for the feedback on my level)
The fonts are very nice and is definitely worth the loading times for anyone that is bothered by that.
The layout's very nice as well, it's just a shame that there's probably no way to cut down the load times, might be worth splitting the level into 2 maybe?
Really helpful level.

I actually split it into smaller chunks and it ended up being four levels all together

I made a secondary account to push it to and have tested it out, so when I get around to updating it I will probably do this.

Ha ha! cool. And thanks!

For my crystal methodology font i choose the best font from MS Word, pasted it into MS paint, zoomed in to pixels and copied them using the grid - it took ages! Hub idea sounds awesome!

i will happily donate my font...i just need to do the letters i didn't use!
