I played the demo...the game sure is different. I didn't care for the puzzles...the demo was super easy...but I got the feeling that the actual game would be more challenging/frustrating and time bases puzzles aren't my cup of tea. The cut scenes were beautiful...but it seems the entire game is phone messages and then the climbing puzzle? Am I wrong because I kinda wanted to like this one.2011-08-02 23:06:00

Well, it IS a puzzle game... But it is a puzzle game with dynamic character progression, like in INfamous. And Isn't that what we all paid $60 for a dynamic anime movie? With free puzzles?2011-08-02 23:11:00

IDK, It depends on what kind of gamer you are. I am a story based gamer, and a puzzle gamer, and a platformer gamer... So this is right up my alley, and IDK if it just first editions or what, but my copy came with the OST, and an art book similar to the $99 collector's edition of GTA IV I also sprung for. I love me some bonuses.

Sorry to be a double poster, but I am on the Demon Bride boss of this game, and can't seem to even get half way up the tower. Has anyone beaten her yet?

EDIT nvmnd

Ive almost finished my first play through... I am about 15 hours in... Empireo 4 now.

EDIT: I beat the game! I received the "Normal lover" ending... I assume this is like Silent Hill, and you get a generic ending on your first play through?

Actually, on my first play through, I chose all the bad things on purpose and got the Normal Cheater ending.

Any game that you beat within the first day or two of owning isn't worth full price IMHO.

But I do fancy picking this game up cheap

Well, I am on summer break from university, so this did run me about 17+ hours for one play through of the story mode only. It is a puzzle game first... Like tetris with story. So I did complete it in 3 extended sittings, but I would actually recommend this one because of it's tremendous replay value.2011-08-04 14:25:00

Again, I bring up Portal 2. But of course, this is where I agree with you: $60 plus tax is a bit pricey for a 4-5 hours game. While the gameplay, story, and co-op were good elements in the game, I still think they should have lowered it to $35 dollars.

Oh well. What's done is done; I'm just glad I got the PC version with my PS3 purchase of it. Twas a fun game.

Picked up my import copy today (meaning I paid more then $60) and I am in absolute love with the game. In fact, after only a couple of hours I feel comfortable saying this might be in masterpiece territory and I know it will be on my ever-growing GOTY nominations list. Original games like this need to be supported, full stop. At a time when people are crying about both lack of originality and the decline of the Japanese industry games like Catherine, Shadows of the ****ed (which unfortunately sold very poorly) and El Shaddai give me hope.

Although this is a game most people should appreciate I definitely think it will be males above the age of 20 that will get the most out of it. As one review put it, this might just be the most mature game ever made. As a married man a lot of themes resonate with me and I am beyond impressed with the symbolism, imagery and the whole grand metaphor of the game. There is a lot of food for thought here and the game should make people reflect on the choices they have made in their own lives.

I love a good challenge and this game is giving it to me like few games ever have. I am playing on Normal and man, this game is tough lol. The puzzle sections are forgiving though with checkpoints (assuming you tag them) and pillows that give you retries. And retry you will... a lot. Still, there is a great sense of achievement after completing a particularly challenging map and then the immediate satisfaction of getting back into the fantastic story.

I would write more but Catherine is calling me (or is that Katherine?)

I got the platinum trophy for it (which requires 3 full playthroughs), that should answer your question

Back on topic, anyone else having a tough time with Rapunzel? Despite the lack of a timer I'm actually finding it harder then the story puzzles lol. I'm on Chapter 4 in the story and only level 4 in Rapunzel, getting the trophy for reaching level 64 will be very challenging indeed.

I will pick it up when it will be released in EU.
It seems pretty interesting especially storywise.

The only game I bought import from Japan 3 months in advance and paid around 90 $ has been Bayonetta, and my friends know how much I love that game.

Games are nearly always region free but DLC only works if the game and DLC are from the same region.

I am mid-way through night 6, my praise for the game has only increased. I like that each night brings new elements into the puzzles and all the symbolism is directly linked to the story. I also like that new themes are emerging through the NPC's stories, things like child abuse, abandonment, misogyny, duplicity and more. This game has a lot to say and it does it all in such a brilliant way that at times I am in awe. Another game that proves games can = art.

I found night 5 quite easy, something about navigating the ice just clicked for me. The night 4 boss was a nightmare in every sense of the word lol. I was there for well over an hour before I finally found a way out. I bought an item for the first time for night 6 stage 3 which seems to encourage item use. Still giving me a hard time though, this is one of the trickier levels.

As of right now this game is at the top of my GOTY list (surpassing games like L.A Noire, InFamous 2 and Dead Space 2). I can hardly wait to finish it and play again to take a completely different path in the story

EDIT: OK wow, I found a way to collapse the entire stage for 6-3 essentially bringing the exit to you! Very cool, so many ways to solve a puzzle.

Be careful with stuff like that... On the final night, there is a puzzle that splits in two, and if you wholly collapse the left half, your PS3 will lag for like 5 minutes straight calculating all the physics. :/

Finished my first playthrough, got the "best" of all 8 possible endings. The endgame was absolutely bananas, loved it. Playing again, going in the opposite direction with my choices. Still need to get through Rapunzel too which has it's own secrets and multiple endings, not to mention Babel mode. So much goodness in this game 2011-08-08 22:22:00

Yeah, I'm playing as a total jerk this time, quite funny actually and getting new MMS pics from Catherine is a bonus lol. Has anyone tried Babel yet? It's even harder then the main game. On my best run I got past 100 steps on the first map, was close to the top before I screwed myself over, no undo button in this mode doesn't help. Maps for Babel are unlocked at 1,3,5 and 9 gold trophies. Getting gold trophies on the Empireo will be...an interesting experiment in patience and perseverance Oh, and there is a gold trophy for getting gold trophies for every stage on HARD. Yeah, not going to bother with that one...

EDIT: Btw, what's up with the topic title? It doesn't make any sense. Maybe just change it to, I don't know, Catherine?

So an ignorant ********* clerk made you feel ashamed to buy the game? The problem with the topic title is that's it's misleading and people on this forum who do not know the game might be turned off by the idea of buying something that could make them feel "ashamed" (which is quite absurd but that's another long topic for another day). I think in many ways Atlus is to blame for the way they marketed the game. While I guess it generated interest it is not a clear representation of the total package. Ah well, thanks for explaining your reasoning although I still think you should change the title.

If anyone is interested in getting more insight into the story (and why wouldn't you be?) then look up Dumuzid on wikipedia, a lot of the symbolism will make more sense. Also, I loved the breaking of the 4th wall during a conversation between Todd and Archie, Todd says something like "are you the kind of guy that only gets turned on by real women" lol, obviously the game is referencing itself and the sex appeal of Catherine

Yeah I read that the other day. As I said, games like this need to be supported...and the cake lied.

Nearing the end of my second playthrough, 30 hours clocked in so far. 2 nights left and gold trophies for the previous 7 nights, was quite effortless actually. The techniques are now in my muscle memory and I am breezing through the levels, will try it on HARD on my next playthrough. Passed the first 20 levels in Rapunzel, I like how it requires a more methodical approach vs the high pressure lateral thinking required for the story mode. Babel on the other hand is still incredibly tough, reached 110 steps, very close to the top. I reached the point numerous times where the announcer says "will Vincent be our next star?" but then the columns always separate into single file, no platforms to build stairways despite my best efforts *sigh*.

One thing I wish that they did is change the actual cutscenes (not only ending) based on your choices and behavior. Having different inner monologues is cool but your still watching the same scene. I hope Atlus continues this Golden Playhouse series, obviously Catherine cannot have a sequel but it would be great to see games with the same visual style that offer unique gameplay experiences.

lol but no. The entire game is based on Vincent and his relationship with the two Catherines. With the multiple endings there is not just one resolution but eight. There is simply no way they could make a sequel and have it make sense imo.

Just finished my second playthrough, the ending I got this time was pretty over-the-top. Got gold all levels, time to attack this sucker on hard!
