Archive: 25 posts

Hey guise! Poorjack here, just starting up a vegetarian/vegan appreciation thread! I am, myself, a vegetarian, and was just wanting to know that I am not alone on this site... So who of you are like me, and what are your reasons? This discussion is open to all vegetarians, vegans, carnivores, omnivores, and anyone else who eats whatever!2011-08-02 13:26:00

I have several friends that are vegetarian, but where I live, they are few and far between. It is a cultural thing here in Utah to lean more towards eating animals than to abstain from it.2011-08-02 15:04:00

I never understood veganism myself. I can respect it, I mean to each his own, right? Myself, I'm a meat eater. I eat my vegies too, but just love a big ole ribeye.2011-08-02 20:24:00

If eating vegies makes you a vegetarian, can I be a meat-eater? Maybe a meteor? 2011-08-02 23:13:00

I know one vegetarian and she's one of the most annoying people I know, I remember last Christmas when I had to wait until about 5 in the afternoon to open my presents, a few hours before I was moaning "Why can't I open my presents early like most people my age do?" of course she said "Think of the children in Africa, they get nothing and they're still happy." I just reply with my trademark "**** you." She's just so humanitarian that I don't understand her, I'm fairly materialistic. But no, I'm not a vegetarian. 2011-08-02 23:22:00

Humanitarian... Ew. Lol. I am not like that at all. I mean children in Africa are starving and all, but whatever. I am a bad and greedy person

Only vegetarians I've ever known were fat but they didn't seem to realise all the bread/pizza/chips they ate had loads of carbs in them which just kept them fat.2011-08-03 04:23:00

Omg I'm vegetarian too! Here's what I had for dinner!

We went out to dinner with friends. ALL we had were :
3 plates of marinated ribs
4 plates of spicy chicken
4 plates of marinated steak
6 plates of brisket
2 or 3 plates of unmarinated/unsalted bacon. I forget...
and 5 plates of marinated spicy pork.

Thing is.... There was only 3 of us.

I respect vegans and vegetarians, I have real life friends sharing that way of life.
Though no one replied to me when I asked why they can raise and kill a plant but they can't raise and kill a cow.
Oh, and plants acknoledge the attention of humans and react to pain...so...
And veggies have been genetically modified, so they're not a totally genuine food anymore.

So yeah, I respect other's people way of life, but can't help myself to question them

Plants don't have a nervous system. The nervous system is what has been developed by higher forms of life to recognize danger and whatnot. With this body system, comes pleasure, and pain. Organisms that don't have this system are ok to eat because they cannot physically feel pain... So says by friend Chris. This involves plants, bugs, squid etc.

For me, I just think it is weird to eat another animal. It feels strange to think about.

Well, I like to think: If it is natural to an animal to eat another animal, why should it be different to us? We can digest both vegetables and meat, that's a good evolutive aspect, can eat anything! (Some people can really eat anything)2011-08-03 17:57:00

Well, are you?

I was writing more about people who use it as a diet than an ethical choice really.

Lol. I'm not very fat at all lol. it is stupid to do it for dietary reasons anyway. For just the reasons you said. If you don't do it right, you will crash and burn and have no energy gotta keep a balanced diet 2011-08-03 18:40:00
