"Heroes"

Archive: 29 posts

So, volume 3, "Villains" has just finished, what did everyone think?

Personally there was so much I loved about this season so far, Sylar's alternate future, Ando finally getting powers, the addition of Daphne, there was some really great moments, and as always, some brilliant side-humour.

The things that have irritated me though have been the killing off of some of my favorite characters, namely:
Adam Monroe
Elle Bishop
(Probably) Meredith Gordon
Stephen Canfield (Vortex guy, could have been an interesting character)

And also not making use of the characters of:
Molly Walker
Claude Rains
Micah Sanders

When some of those had (in my opinion) some of the more interesting stories to tell. And, (again, personally) I wish they hadn't bothered giving Ali Larter (Nikki Sanders.Tracey Strauss) more screentime by giving her a twin sister. I never found Nikki all that interesting after season 1, and Tracey is even more dull, a new character could have been more interesting.

Anyways, anyone else got any thoughts?

Love the series, loved the last episode. If there is one thing I think the series could use though it's epic battles between some of the characters. I'm thinking crazy matrix style, sfx-laden goodness. What does everybody else think?2008-12-18 13:35:00

I think it's a really bad X-Men ripoff. That said, if they had more epic battles ala X-Men then it would definitely be better.

I watched the first season and really tried to like it. I was really excited about the show when it was first announced, but it didn't do anything for me back then and I can't imagine it's gotten better. From what I heard, the second season was bad and the third has gotten mixed reviews by fans of the show. I just don't know if it's worth the time to catch up.

Fair enough. I have to say I love X-men (does anybody remember the old cartoon? No, I mean the old cartoon lol. I used to watch it religiously as a kid) but I think the big difference is that Heroe's is somehow more "human" if that makes sense. Oh and season 3 is definitely better then season 2

THIS. This is why there are few epic battles of power in Heroes. I can still see why people would want to see it, but for the most part, it won't fit. Heroes is still a drama, not an action adventure, and the thrust of the show is about the characters and how they react to their powers, not just what they can do with them.

Additionally, when you take X-men or any other "normal" comic book series, most characters with powers are given at least a hightened invunerability as well as their standard power. Aside from usually being able to take the side-effects of their own powers (Nathan's face not being ripped off by flying at supersonic speeds, Daphne the same with her running, Elle for the most part not being zapped by her own electricity etc) none of them have any more resistance to anyone else's powers, so many of the battles woouldn't last long anyway. The only one I really felt we were robbed of was Peter vs Sylar in season 1.

Oh, and yes, season 3>season 2.

But it seems like everyone on the show has some sort of superpower. Not too human if you ask me when every single person can do something unreal. That said, there's not a lot of fun in seeing superpowers every week when they really don't stand out from the next guy's superpowers. Make sense?

I understand your point though; everyone is very mortal. I guess it just wasn't what I originally expected. I wanted it to be action-packed rather than a weekly drama.

Reaper: The last episode of this arc aired last night on BBC 3 in the UK. Obviously too late for you now, but still.

super: I mean the human side of the heroes. It's not all about the powers they have and the fights they get in because of that, it's about the drama behind that. I see your point, by the end of the series, nearly every major character, including those who didn't used to have powers, had them, but that's just this arc, there are still plenty of interesting characters through the run of the show without powers. And since a lot of the characters we see are related (look at the Petrelli family's tree for example) it does make sense that most of them have powers.

Moley: Her name is Claire Bennet and she is awesomeness in a cup.

Who knows, maybe I'll give it another shot. I've been looking for a reason to start my Netflix membership back up. Possibly add Heroes BD to my queue.

I love me some Heroes. I'm a little irritated that the main focus of the show seems to have switched from Peter to Sylar, but it's not a deal breaker for me. The only thing I wish from Heroes in Volume Four is that they get rid of Mohinder. I can not stand him. He's always whining about something or another and manages to cause more harm than good.2008-12-19 16:32:00

*BANG* Now I've done it to you too....

Yes, it looks like the theme of the next volume will more likely be surviving the present. I've read some spoilers, sounds good anyway.

I've been watching Heroes religiously since Season one.

ZOMG SYLAR, there's no turning back for him now. He's got to be a villain until the end now. He has too many powers to keep track of now too. I wonder who will be the one to finish him off and how.

I agree and don't expect epic battles every two episodes but at least once or twice a season. I agree we were robbed of the Peter vs Sylar but it is a given that will eventually happen. I also agree with your previous comments regarding Niki. I do not like the character but I am sure the creators's believe she adds sex appeal to the series (I personally do not find her attractive). I also find Matt Parkman slightly annoying but that's about it.
