Roller INC 2 by comphermc

Hey party people!

I finally get to release the sequel to Roller INC 2 after using it this past weekend for a high score contest at the LBPCommunity Meet in St. Louis. I was given the opportunity to be verbally harassed for the difficulty already, so I apologize in advance if you feel the urge to do the same! This level is not for the feint of heart, so be warned!

Also, if you're looking for a high score to chase after (since the scoreboards are down), I was able to get 10,994. The winning contest score was 10,244, by milton2x. Nice job, bud!

HD pictures and video are coming eventually! For now, have these:

O_o The first one was super hard but super fun, I'll definitely give this one a run. A good hard level always does me well, and the snapshots look really incredible, you're a perfectionist when it comes to detail.2011-08-01 18:16:00

Oh no! Not again!
Queued for later, hopefully I'm up for the challenge!
I remember the first one being difficult but not frustrating. Hopefully you have the balance right again or I won't be... Having a barrel of laughs! (Had to be pun.)

One thing I noted when it was first pulished was that you could reactivate the 1st cutscence by running forward and then backtracking to the start point, did that get fixed by any chance?2011-08-01 19:57:00

I am purposefully ignoring this level until I can look at it's title and not be simultaneously frustrated and taunted by the little voices in my head to complete it.

Ugh. Who am I kidding?

Queue'd.

Played through it a few hours ago, and holy crap! I played the original Roller INC yesterday and finished it (after a Demon's Souls number of deaths :colossus, and I've gotta say that this is certainly worthy of a sequel for it. The timing on some of those portions was just...GAAAH! But, I persevered and conquered! I really liked the ending, too. It was so...Machiavellian. An epic showdown akin to Holmes versus Moriarty, and Aristotle versus MASHY SPIKE PLATE!2011-08-01 20:22:00

So good to play a hard level, I don't get nearly enough challenge these days. Nice work Comph, some really nifty ideas in there too. There was a spot (bouncepad on a motor thingy up to another couple of bouncepads) that gave me quite a few cheap deaths by pushing me into the wrong layer a few times or not bouncing me far enough, but other than that, a great test of fingers.Ta!2011-08-01 20:49:00

dang, I forgot to mention that at the planetarium. Glad it's fixed. Loved the level, loved the design and gameplay. I "died" many, many, many times but enjoyed almost every minute of it. There was a couple of spots where I had to set my controller down and regroup, but all in all, I had a great time. As I already stated elsewhere, I think you're a diabolical genius and I can't wait to see what you come up with next. Awesome stuff!2011-08-02 02:59:00

Played this yesterday and by golly was it hard. The look of the level was amazing and kept me interrested even though death was a constant thing. There are some nice gameplay experiences as well as good challenges which made it very enjoyable.2011-08-03 11:24:00

Finally have five minutes to myself to post - yay!

So, Roller Inc 1 is/was my favorite level of all time so going into this one I had some pretty high expectations. I wanted the challenge of the first one but in a new way that kept the fairness in gameplay without sacrificing the challenge - man oh man did you deliver!

Loved the gameplay! The telltale mark of your work is that it's been tested so many times that it runs perfectly, smoothly and you can see the care that you use when crafting these diabolical platforming sections. There are sections with exceptional flow that you can play fast and others that require you to stand still and use patience to make it through (a very rare and ingenious style of gameplay in LBP.) I can't say enough about how much fun this level is, even if it is very hard. The other thing about levels like this that I don't think the LBP crowd in general appreciates is that you can come back and play it over and over again and get better at it without it becoming stale or old. Very few levels achieve this type of replayability and it's why I keep coming back to Roller Inc 1 and I know I will continue it with Roller Inc 2.

Love the look you gave this one too. The color is modern and brooding. The stickers give it a texture that looks unique and those posters are epic. You do have an eye for graphic design, must be the company you keep.

As if the gameplay and aesthetic weren't enough to gush over, I have to bring up the downright hilarious dialogue and character development you've put in. Ricky is perfectly made to represent the poser evil genius wannabee. Every time he pops up on one of those cool television monitors I laugh out loud.

Wonderful level that I think may have just won my heart for my new favorite level of all time. Nicely done Mr. Compher

I actually forgot to mention this. The character on the Monitor was done very well i couldn't even tell it was made of holo. I couldn't finish the level but i will try again for sure.

Thankee! I do need to thank you for helping me nail down the theme, though... remember? It was pretty bland when you get in there!

I died mostly on the part you had to grab Rollerbotham jr. I'm an idiot. An idiot who is good at platforming, but fails to realise there actually is nowhere to go...

Ps. Level was pretty fantastic...

Wow... thats pretty hard. And it took me a while to get through maybe an hour - a testament to how good this is. You die over again and again (and again), but its all such small little challenges broken up that you don't really get frustrated with playing parts over and over (and over).

Some very interesting concepts which in each part are simple to understand but difficult to execute... which is why its so challenging but not unfair... and those lasers at the end looked fantastic, I was a little disappointed with the end but also really liked the ending... if that makes sense.

My score was 479...

EDIT: The final gift is great! I would have also loved a sackbot with a shirt that said "I beat Roller INC 2 and All I got was this lousy prize"

I'd wear that!

That was ridiculously hard, but I managed to beat it. It was a really fun level, though.

VISUALS:
The design is great, and the lighting is well put in this level. The stickering of this level is really cool, too.

SOUND:
Awesome sounds.

GAMEPLAY:
As what you said, this level is seriously hard (good thing there's infinite checkpoints). But there are a lot great obstacles that will satisfy players as they figure out a way to avoid the plasma rollers and use the nonhazardous rollers as a zipline. Man, this level took me an hour to complete.

OVERALL:
This is a crazy level challengers may want to try it out. Better than the first. A yay, heart, and a positive review.

Great level (I'd expect nothing less from you). I'll complete it one day.... very tough indeed. I can imagine it'll get quite a bit of hate for being too difficult, but not from me. There's a lot of whiney Sackstards out there 2011-08-06 20:43:00

Tons of fun. Tons of eye candy. Tons of deaths. Just the way I like it. Great job once again. Now be quick and release another level! 2011-08-07 19:02:00

I just gave the level a go and while I really really liked it for the innovative ideas and great gameplay pretty much everything else felt old for me.

THE STORY was simple and that's not a bad thing, but in the end you just flicked it off without a bossfight or anything. Comparing to the first Roller Inc where you had to survive a very fun bossfight using the level's mechanics this le3vels ending is just terrible to me.

THE SCENERY was all in one colour and felt pretty bland to me. Where's the interesting surroundings and colours? Also you didn't highlight gameplay elements such as rails and flipper with special colours. This made me miss a few of those, making the game more confusing then fun.

Once again though, the gameplay was great. I did think it was slightly too easy and it felt like there wasn't a real progression in..hardness. I finished the last two gameplay elements in a minute while I struggled with one in the middle for five.

Overall this is a really polished and fun level that could've used a bit of more planning to deliever a better story and more interesting scenery, derp.

It basically felt like a cheaper verision of the LBP1 Roller Inc to me

4 stars!

I'm late to the party! Been away from LBP for weeks (mostly anyway). I did play this a couple of weeks ago, right after playing #1!

The first was very charming and oh so challenging, think it would be torture to ace! But I loved it! And the boss fight was a whole lot of epic!

So with high expectations, into part 2 I went! I found the styling a little hard to look at for long periods, especially after the perfect yet rough and chaming LBP1 vibe from the first. That's just a personal thing tho! The care and detail was evident all around. Absolute genius use of the grabinator! Had brilliant fun with that. Think you went easy on us for this one, didn't have nearly as many deaths as the first and acing it would be very possible (not to say it shouldn't be! Just something marked as very hard and after 1 play thru I'm very confident it could be aced without too much frustration, it's a fair jump from your first is what I mean )

Excellent level, cheeky with the ending tho!! (very cheeky!)

Gz on MM pick too, deserved!
