How To Get Back To A Certain Screen From A Menu?
Archive: 5 posts
I'm making a point & click level with a view like you'd get in the old Myst games. In one room you'll have 4 screens to view the whole room kinda like this: http://ic.lbp.me/img/ft/fac19ad54c5575757138f10deb2b9ba9101f8f01.jpg http://ie.lbp.me/img/ft/84ea57a280e1690fab33d15a81a39b6fa2dd490e.jpg http://i0.lbp.me/img/ft/870005dfeb045d3d5a8fa178cfd332aaffd0af89.jpg http://i5.lbp.me/img/ft/a753097edf46d3fa487cbe166cee976fae195490.jpg You can go to the menu from any screen you're on. When leaving the menu, I want the game to send the player back to the screen they were previously on but I can't figure out a way to do this. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks. | 2011-08-01 15:32:00 Author: shindol Posts: 78 |
Without knowing how your menu works it's hard to give a specific solution. But theoretically speaking, you'll want to store the current screen somehow, in a selector for instance. For example, you could have a selector with 4 states, each output connected to a camera on one of the room views. Another 2 state selector could store whether you've opened the menu or not. If the menu is open, surpress the other cameras in whatever manner you prefer, like with 4 AND gates, or by putting the room view selector on a microchip. | 2011-08-01 16:54:00 Author: Rogar Posts: 2284 |
You could make the menu a pop-up menu, so technically you're not leaving the screen anyway. | 2011-08-01 18:33:00 Author: Phazerz123 Posts: 440 |
Using a selector is a good way. A simplified example: a multi gate selector for each room you are in; each output a different camera. This is all on a separate microchip which you keep active during normal gameplay. On another - inactive - chip you stick a battery and a camera focussing on the menu part. Now you just activate the menu chip whenever the menu gets active and disable the game chip at the same time. Vice versa to return to the room you were in last: the selector remembers what it was set to. My compliments to your screenshots. That looks very, very good. A noire atmosphere, it is probably a crime story, right? Very good atmosphere. I want to play this, so don't give up. Good luck. | 2011-08-01 18:47:00 Author: Antikris Posts: 1340 |
