Level dying on me...
Archive: 5 posts
When I unpause the level I'm working on, I hear weird cracking noises every second. I know that this signifies that an object from my level is breaking, but I can't see anything broken on my level... I've saved and played it and the level is exactly the same as it was when it wasn't glitching on me, a.k.a it works 100% fine in play mode. This first started when I was using the corner editor to make my level's aesthetics better. I've tried deleting objects one by one and seeing when the cracking stops, but every time I try this, it stops on a different object. Could it be a thermo problem even though it's at roughly 75%? Or could it be the fact that one of my corner edited, well, corners, are touching another object and spontaneously messing up? I don't know, and I'd really appreciate your opinion on what you think could be going wrong. :S Edit: Fixed! Thanks for all your help. ![]() | 2011-08-01 01:31:00 Author: abyssalassassin ![]() Posts: 717 |
sometimes emitted objects make the cracking noise when their destroyed, this noie also sometimes dissapears when you are right next to the emitter. Well thats what happened to me anyway... I just shortened the object lifetimes so that they hit nothing and it seemed to work. You may have a different issue but it might be worth checking this | 2011-08-01 01:55:00 Author: ForgottenEnigma ![]() Posts: 1414 |
i've noticed it happens when a hologram goes outside the barriers of createmode. maybe its a holo. | 2011-08-01 02:06:00 Author: fighterwindplus ![]() Posts: 403 |
Within the last week I've added about 30 emitters, emitting hologram snow to fit the level's icy theme. ![]() ![]() Edit: They ALL fall through the bottom of the screen. ![]() | 2011-08-01 02:37:00 Author: abyssalassassin ![]() Posts: 717 |
It can be infuriating to hear the crack but not find the problem (there is always a problem) only to continue building after that point, and discover it was something not obvious like a hidden wobble bolt or tiny piece of material. Three hours of building later, complex logic everywhere, you realize what went wrong, and have to start over since it's faster than repairing the mess. The more complicated a level, the more scary that "krrriickk" sound is! Wish you luck in finding your problem, and recommend hiding layers and going into "preview" mode while zoomed way out, unpausing and rewinding, unpausing and rewinding, looking for any unusual change in scenery. I can imagine LBP3 coming with an "action data log" for create mode that tracks every last detail in a text file, similar to programming code, that lets you jump around in the life of a level's creation based on the text output. This is a logical next step for game designers who would otherwise be working with computer code as well as visuals. For now we have to deal with things like wizard/construction workers. "Did you just hear a supporting beam buckle, Ted?" "Sure did! Let's roll back in the space-time continuum and see what's wrong!" ![]() | 2011-08-01 02:41:00 Author: Unknown User ![]() |
