Things That Make You Happy

Archive: 102 posts

I feel lots of tension around LBP as of late, soooo...I decided to make a cheap knock off of lemurboy12's "Things That Make You Mad" thread. How about stuff that makes you all warm and fuzzy like inside on LBP?

Ok let me start...um...well I love to play online with other people. I also love getting helpful feedback on the costumes I create.

How about you all? I don't expect much variety, but why not share anyway?

When I feel one of my experiments in Create amazes my friends (some of them don't spend as much time creating so they aren't much adept in creating more complex stuff) and I let them capture it. I like sharing my creations with close friends. Last week I was creating with one of them and he was just doing random stuff, like attaching a water tap into a piece of wood. I put a microchip with an emmiter on it set to emit water, hooked it to the R2 output of a remote-controlled controllinator, and told him to hold R2. Of course the tap started pouring water, and hearing him going nuts over the headset was priceless 2011-07-31 04:55:00

Great idea for A topic~
we need more friendly happy topics like this.

Also.
When I'm able to play with my close friends.

When I create a costume that turned out to be better then i was hoping.

When I play well made levels with themes that match my likes.

Being able to help my friends with their levels.

When people tell me they love my costumes.

When Someone i've not even meet knows who i am... in a good way

When MM brings out new costume packs a lot.

when MM brings out a Level pack that's not based on Disney

Replaying old fave levels i love from LBP1~

:kz: Nice one, Kirby.

-Making Costumes
-Being praised for my Costumes
-Being praised for my POD
-Slapfest with my buddies
-Making new friends
-Playing an addicting Mini-Game
-Slapping the person to their death for being an a-rse
-Helping friends with Logic/Levels
-Being the person to finish a Boss when you're the last one alive on a 4-Player Game
-Pulling out the 'ol Trollface Sticker I got from early LBP2 days
-Finishing a Costume w/ Maxed out Decos
-Helping someone getting all the Objects in Story Mode
-Being the only person in the room to know how to do the 'Paintinator Jump'
-When I enter a room of people that don't Slap me the second I enter the POD

:kz:I've still got a LOT more, but I'll leave it to that.

That great feeling of joy you get when your playing a great platformer with 4 players at once. It feels very party gameish. Nothing like 4 people jumping across platforms and sponges, etc. The sense of cooperation and fun all shared between 4 people. Yeah, mushy.2011-07-31 07:45:00

Heh there really are more bad things than good as far as the community but here goes..

-Getting hearted, a level hearted or a review
-Seeing a creator with more than 100 hearted creators
-Seeing a creator with almost all positive and/or helpful reviews
-Hearting a player that does the above things with less than 3 hearts
-Making or seeing an amazing costume, level, song or object
-Having an emitted object work %100 fine on the first try
-Having someone respond to a comment or ad..
-Having no bugs or lag in a level made or played
-Seeing a creator or player with a ton of different genres of levels hearted
-Finding an amazing basic platformer
...Hmmm

Creating new things that I thought I couldn't.
Decorating Pods, Moons, Planets, Sackboys ect.
Playing the prehistoric levels with the Move.
Feedback.

Collecting story mode prizes. You see, I'm a collect-o-holic. I'm the kind of person who must collect EVERYTHING and won't stop until he has it all. I always get a happy feeling collecting a new prize. What a shame I've now completed story mode 100%, because that means no more prizes until there's a new level kit... 2011-07-31 20:50:00

Other than the obvious ones like:

-Finding a truly fantastic, unique level.
-When I log in and see one of my levels has more plays (the numbers are low enough for me to notice )
-When someone yays and/or hearts me/my levels.

It also makes me happy when I see the bad levels on the cool pages getting a lot of negative comments. Most of the levels on there have barely any effort put into them (ooh you spent 2hrs making a lovely plane - I spend 2 flipping months making my levels and get barely any plays!! ), are based on coppied ideas, or are just plain naff.

- Well-made, funny levels (either sketch-comedy movies, or levels with tongue-in-cheek design )
- The moment I see someone has visited one of my levels (a rather rare sight)
- When I manage to get someone nice to play with me online from Dive In*
- Epic LBP2 music (Whoever Brings The Night, Sleepyhead, A Fifth of Beethoven, Atlas, Disco Divertimento.. )

[* slightly off-topic, but has anyone recently noticed the change in Dive In? Until recently at least for me, Dive In tended to mix players together from all over the world, but now it just only tends to take local players. A bit problematic for me (in Finland), since most of them didn't really want me to play along ]

I get happy when I make something that amazes me, amuses me or surprises me. Especially when it turns out to be something way better than my initial idea, something that evolves as I create it, that grows out of experiment, mistakes or connecting the dots. At that moment, for me, that something has gained soul.

I get happy when other people create stuff that evokes the same feelings with me.

Here is a big one, The fact that I bought this game day one in January, and I still can't stop playing it everyday in August.
The fact that even when I'm not playing lbp 2 I can still be involoved with the game using lbp.me and lbpcentral.
The factory of a better tomorrow, especially that crazy turkey at the end.
and finally, playing local multiplayer, every game that has online should also have some form of local co op or competitive play.

- Finally finishing your new level and watching the active player count appear
- Getting help from someone, even though there is little you can give them in return
- Getting praise from someone you respect
- Chatting with LBP players about completely non-LBP topics
- When you first discover all the new logic tools
- Clive's cutscenes
- Finding something you thought was impossible in LBP
- Messing up in create, and then realizing it's an awesome improvement
- Getting a new idea for create
- Actually making your new idea work
- Succeeding on the first try
- Playing your creations
- MM picked (it would)
- Getting beaten at your own game creation
- Making ridiculous things in create

And so on...

Exporting a photo I took in game to use as my ps3 wallpaper.
Making new friends.
Receiving hearts.
Drawing sackboy.

I'm just happy that Sony decided to accept an idea for a game that at first appeared to be nothing more than a simple platformer, but has become something that has revolutionized the future of gaming. User generated content has always been around, but it has never been done in a way which allows absolutely anyone to turn even their grandest ideas into something fantastic. Regardless of how much we post in the other thread, Mm really has made a great game.2011-08-27 07:31:00

-Playing/chatting/creating with my friends.
-Acing a level on my first try.
-Finding great, original music creators.
-Being praised by creators I respect a lot.
-Looking through my hearted creators list and finding that people have published new levels.
-Finding glitches (even though they can be annoying sometimes, I usually find them very interesting and amusing.)
-This isn't in game, but the first intro trailer for LBP2.

Hahahaha, silly IronSkullKid...

But wow, almost everything mentioned in this thread is on my list, so I'll just tell the ones that haven't been said yet:

When people tell me that my work had inspired them to create something
Discovering the fact that people were wondering where I went when I disappeared from LBP2 for a day or so
Seeing someone who I respect yay and/or heart one of my levels, especially when I've never asked them to play it
When others are curious about when I'd publish a new level to any one of the series I've started
Seeing a "popular" creator go out of their way to help publicize unknown creators' works
Threads like these, because we do need more optimism

Well, I'm sure it's hard to do. And if you really want to enjoy a level properly there's no reason in breaking it. It's just like in videogames in general, you can noclip and access all the areas you're not supposed to, but why do it? All you'll see is ugly, immersion-breaking level limits.

Well, what really makes me happy in LBP is when I get all the logic right on the first try, especially if it's something advanced enough I'm unsure I can get right without help.

:kz: Not hard for me, since I do it almost all the time.

Reason why I do it, is because I get bored & want to see what else I can find. You'd be surprised. So far, I've seen:

-Random Commute Objects laying around(Probably the Creator's friends messing around while they were making the level)
-Random Checkpoint stuck to piece of Cardboard
-Random Sackbots with Community Costumes just standing there
-Oddly shaped piece of Metal Material laying there like a lump of Clay
-Random Objects(Shoe, Purse, Sword, etc)
-Random Creationator that Emits Missles, floating
-Literally, a Giant Mech, just standing there, Motionless...In a Costume Giveaway level...I'm not even joking. I wrecked that level up. It was sooooooo fun.

What makes me happy?
-Being stumped for hours on how to accomplish something, getting frustrated that your logic isn't working, and then finally finding a solution that is elegant, works as intended, and is thermo friendly
-Transistor logic!
-Good music from the Music Sequencer
-slowly making progress on getting my very first level published, only to have the move pack come out and having to rework vast chunks of logic to make it compatible with both controlinators and movinators (more chances at #1)
-slowly getting closer and closer to having 100% of all prizes, though I still need to go back to lbp1 to get everything as well, and still have tons of dlc left to purchase
-finding levels that are similar to the one I'm making, taking note of what they've done, and making mine better. It slows down the create process (this level of mine has been in production since lbp2 came out) but I'd like to think that as a result mine will be far more refined.
-Just simply marveling at the games create mode everyday I turn on the system. It's essentially a visual programming language, and the simplicity in how MM implemented it is amazing to me. I'll sit there and just stare at what I've accomplished so far sometimes

Oh man... I was working on a sublevel whose progression is generally up and to the left, and I made the whole level's bulk just floating in the mid-air (which seems pretty stupid to me now). A few minutes ago I realized I was just a few inches from hitting the level's upper limit and I still have a considerable amount of space to go before I finish. So what do I do? I copy the level on my moon to make sure I have a backup if I screw it up permanently, go into the copy, I drag a titanic selection box over the whole thing and attempt to move it down to the floor. A bulk whose immense size would put Cthulhu himself to shame, containing hundreds of objects, logic, decorations, connectors and everything, selected at the same time, causing massive lag and dropping the framerate by about three quarters. My sister said that while I was carefully moving the whole level I made the same face people would make if they were pulling a rusty knife out of their leg [1]. But darn, I did it. I'll have to playtest it loads and loads of times to make sure nothing was moved or damaged but everything seems to be alright. Getting this right made me happy

Naaah, but for some reason, I'd feel more confident in revealing what I did when I release my level, which will hopefully be very soon (don't know why I'm so secretive.... not like it's gonna get MM picked or anything). The change I made wasn't logically mind blowing or anything.

Actually, I lied.... it's actually 16 emitters, not 8.

I like releasing remakes no one asked for, of movies no one watched (except us MST3K fans). The sheer act of posting an obscure relic of days past is fun for me.

Every (intelligent) review on my any of my levels, inspires me to create more.

Every single play on everyone of my levels inspires me to create more.

When people thank me (or at least reply) to my reviews or level creation tips.

Random dumb levels that know what they are and revel in it.

Gnome Hunter II: A Trial of Orientation... It sucks, I made it, I love it.

Speaking of which. Making levels makes me happy.

LittleBigPlanet in general makes me happy. It's filled with a bunch of tiny little sackcloth puppets running around on and unlimited number of adventures. There are bright colors all over the place, fellow sack people to slap, remakes of infamous 80s music videos, things to sticker, people to paint, lots of things to blow up, and it all around embodies fun and creativity in a game. It's great.

Haha. You could play my other levels in the meantime, it's probably a good few days before I release my next level.

I've kinda thought of a similar way I could get rid of some more emitters.

I'll put you out of your misery, because it's not that exciting, it was something I thought of whilst struggling to sleep. Basically, there are a lot of emitters that are positional, instead of having all these emitters, I just have a couple of emitters on a piece of holo that moves into the corresponding position when needed. It's so simple a concept, but it saves me quite a bit of thermo.

I love doing remakes too. If you look on my Earth, you'll see that 2 of my levels are essentially remakes, as is the one I'm making now, and so will be the one after that (which I haven't tested yet). I like seeing something and going "ooh, I wonder if I can make that?".

Have you ever made a remake of a remake? Once LBP2 came out, I remade my level "Lazerblast." The original took me 4 hours over the course of one night to make. The remake took around 20 hours over the course of a week or so. I'm not sure how that happened, but it was worth it.

I'm currently working on a scene for scene (to an extent) remake of "The Pumaman." The sheer (predicted) size and scope of the level will.... Prove that I have no social life.

But it will still be awesome.

20hrs over a week? Pfffffffft. My levels take months to make.

I do like to take my time though.

Seeing a flight of stairs in a level that looks like it took some time to craft.
Then being able to go up those stairs without tapping X because the author put an invisible ramp on the steps.

Also bump

The diversity and friendliness of the LBP community in general.

Also, publishing a level i've spent months on and am satisfied with!

EDIT: Actually, i'm never satisfied, but I still enjoy making constant changes!

Just making/driving cars and crashing them, I don't really care how good/bad the level is. I just like to have fun, nowadays, it's 'H4H'.2011-11-18 17:19:00

Years ago it was H4H. Personally, I prefer F4F.

Lol F4F is like a fancy LBPC-as-a-middleman P4P.
I've seen really in-depth reviews from those P4Pers as well as F4Fers here that say "Like your level now play this level of mine." :rolleyes"

Both are good if not to that ridiculous minuscule amount of feedback.

What an interesting topic!
Im happy when I see and play levels with amazing artwork, made with move or with an average controller, also art/gallery levels..... you can tell there's so much work been put into them! What a great game LBP is, not only does it allow you to play and make friends with people from all over the world, it also inspires everyone to get creative and share it with everyone!
LBP just keeps getting better & better! so basically... LBP makes me happy hah!!!!

- creating objects or levels that look realistic (usually it makes me happy )
- playing levels that look realistic

- christmas!!!! levels, objects, music, whatever. i just loooove christmas

- playing levels that have "interactive music" (the music occurs when the player moves). i think it's so impressive that i just love it

- looking at the costumes people make
- looking at the paintings people make with the move pack

in general i just love to see the creativity and art that can be done with this game. it's very different and refreshing

I love trying to make something complicated in create mode with a friend, and when we hit play it all explodes/goes to hell. It makes us laugh
Simple, fun levels make me happy. Like Complicated Simplicity III by vandz.
Race levels that aren't copied and don't involve just holding R1 until you get to the finish. I love speed running (as you can see in my sig)
Getting those really time consuming/tough pins, like the 7500 minutes of create. Also I rated my 400th "new level" a couple weeks ago.
Having more hearts than negative votes on my levels.
Winning versus levels

tl;dr, I guess the game itself. I'm 18 and it makes me feel like I'm 9 again

Pi?a Coladas and getting caught in th-... Someone already did that? Dang it. Or maybe we were meant to be trapped in a mediocre romance for the rest of our lives.

Enough of that gag. Another thing that makes me happy is respectful Trolling. Aka trolling done not to annoy or anger others (for the most part), but to make everyone laugh. I guess another term for that is Internet Sarcasm.

Wow..... are we really that miserable that nothing has made us happy in over a month?

It makes me happy when:

- You finally get back into creating, after months of messing about not doing anything productive.
- You meet a creator you respect, and they're a top bloke.
- An MM picked creator hearts one of your levels.
- You get the logic right first time (a rarity in my case )

Stay positive people.

Playing a really bad level with hilariously terrible grammar and character models.

I love it when something goes as planned in create mode. Or I've been debugging the heck out of some logic and it finally works.
Also, recently I went to my moon with my friend and was like, "Hey, let's play my first level I ever did." So I went and played my kind of crap obstacle course and my friend said, "I remember playing this in LBP1!" I said,
"Wow really? I didn't think we knew each other then." And he said,
"I was just your fan then." It made me feel kind of fuzzy to have a fan, it actually re-inspired my creativity, I wanted to make more levels.

Things that make me feel fuzzy inside;

-getting a burst of creativity for one of my levels
-decorating my pod
-playing with my close friends
...-> Check out my friend TehDevilHD, he is an awesome creator, although he only has 1 level published, he has a ton in progress
..........->http://lbp.me/u/TehDevilHD
-Getting good feedback for my levels- Excluding "Oh, yo lvls sooooooo awesome!!!111"
-Playing a new undiscovered gem, and seeing the tight-knit group of people that support the level

Now if only I could play LBP now, but I have to get back to studying.......

Well, it appears we've all been miserable so-and-so's and haven't been happy since January.
Time for a bump, me thinks.

It makes me happy when I make some good progress with my level, as I did this weekend. It's usually the case where I'll do a bit.... then stop because I can't be bothered, especially when I'm doing the tedious stuff as I am at the moment. But this weekend.... I didn't stop! I kept going and got quite a bit done.
Basically, I've been trying to link my stages together in the current part of my level. There are "rooms" if you will, similar to Sneaky Steve's level series (though not at all similar to actual gameplay). When I'm creating a stage/room, I'll do it in a test mode. When I've reached a point where the thermo is getting high, I start to link the stages in that level together..... which is a tedious process, believe me.

Just on my end:
-When i'm working in paint and it comes out the way i wanted it to.
-When i finally get some logiccy bit to do what i'd had it doing in my head.
-When i can tuck some geeky detail into a stage.
-When that makes my wife laugh.

w/r/t other players:
-When someone(s) help me get one of those multiple player needed items or trophy
-When i play a level that just looks beautiful
-When i play a level that perfectly hits that sweet spot of tough but not frustrating
-When people are helpful here (which is like 99.5% of the time, thanks everyone!)
-When i see something in a tutorial and both the application and the reasoning behind it just clicks in my head.

Actually...now that i think of it tons more. LBP has been remarkably kind to me, and, sappy as it sounds has helped me through a few rough patches these last 4 (5? when did LBP1 come out?) years. Being able to sit down and noodle out a problem, or build something cool, or play something new is just nice...and doesn't cost anything (well...ok...i did have to buy 1&2...and all the DLC, natch, but you get what i mean).

So...yeh...this game and all y'all make me happy. Go get yourselves some cake, and have a great day.

I meet my friends online, and we go to create mode with the initial idea of actually building something but that quickly turns into a situation where everyone is trying to pwn eachother with awesome vehicles and contraption such a imploding ducks. BEST. FUN. EVER. I love you online create! <3
