Final Fantasy lovers, get ready for this battle system!

Archive: 15 posts

Hello everyone. I am proud to present my most complex logic design: A turned based battle system with LBP2 logic!

I have made a turn based system before, but it was on LBP1. The system supported levels such a "Sackmon (pokemon)" and Swordsman's Story (RPG level). When LBP2 came out, all of that logic got messed up and I started getting bad ratings!!!

So I decided to make a updated version of my battle system and it turned out great! This level is a beta that includes 3 types of battle system:

Support - system= Allows you to use one character. you are supported by 2 more characters by pressing L1 orL2 in their respective turns.

Multi - system= This system works with two players! Allows each player to use a character, each with its own independent HP and MP.

Ultra - system= This system allows you to use all 3 characters, each one with their own independent skills, MP , HP, items.

I highly suggest you try out the Ultra battle system. It took me a lot of time to put it all-together and its also the most complete version of a battle system. Since this is just a beta I have allowed the amount of items to be unlimited for now. The battle system was created mostly to continue my RPG series Swordsman's Story, but it can also be used for Pokemon levels. That's up to the fans!

I tried this first of all WOW! Secondly I'm glad to finally see an rpg style game system I've been waiting for ages!!

The only things I had an issue with was the camera in the battle scene, now it might be my tv but the far left and right were cut off. Not a big deal on the right but on the left it cut off the start of some words (if I didn't have a fine knowledge of RPGs I would have been lost! )

And the other thing was in the ultra system the timers were up again very fast and it kind of forces a lot to be going on it you know what I mean? By the time I had selected my next action and moved on to the next person i had to go back and it led to a lot of button mashing ( i know in an RPG???) lol

Everything other than that was just peachy, the characters models were lovely really digging the dragon..
The animations of the attacks and abilities was pretty wicked too! Real old school feeling took me straight back to final fantasy 6 lol

I'm very interested in seeing the complete series!

If you wouldn't mind would you let me know what you think of my new level? You can find it here https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=60871-Psy-Sack-The-Telekinetic-Sackboy

Tried it out and I loved the Ultra battle system as compared to the other two.

It was fast-paced, as you need to keep changing between the 3 characters, and the ATB bar fills up very quickly. The length of that boss battle (I'm assuming as it is a dragon) was just right, not too long, not too short.

The visuals were okay but the animations of the attacks/spells make up for it.

Overall, I'd like to see a full level with all the intricacies of this fast-paced RPG. Good Job.

If you would be as so kind to return the favor, check out my level too and leave some feedbacks on it. It is a LBP1 level so don't expect the new awesome stuff from 2.
Anyways, here it is:

Lol, saying a rpg combat system (like final fantasy) is one of the most general things to say . Definitely seems cool and i will check it out as soon as my ps3 stops acting up and connect to the internet.2011-07-30 08:22:00

I played it this morning, and I was really impressed. I believe I left a review stating my feelings on it. I guess, just to repeat myself or clarify or whatever, I think the ATB bars could use just a tad bit slowing down since it got a little bit too crazy. I started ignoring so much what I wanted to do and just quickly went with what was most convenient at the moment.

I don't believe I said this in my short review, but I really did like the attack and skill animations. Really gave the battle its style.

Thanks man. I wanted to let everyone know that the battle system is getting better and better. I'm about to republish it with a new special move feature. Only Mack can use his special move for the moment. In order to execute a "War Cry" (special move), you need to get hurt a couple of times and then, you will see the character's attack bar flashing in red! This has only been installed to the Ultra system.2011-07-30 22:10:00

As a FF fan, I must say that Ultra is the best. Simultaneously controlling all characters is a joy and a challenge that makes the game that much better. I highly HIGHLY recommend this level to people to try and test because it really does show the limitless qualities of LBP2.

Nice work. Yay and hearts!

If you have time, I'd like some feedback on my first level, the link is in my signature. All criticism is welcome! Thanks, I appreciate it!

Sure, I'll give your level a try.

BTW people, the ultra system is getting better and better. There are now special moves with Mack and John when they have low health. You can execute special moves when you see the attack bar turn red. Lenna's special is coming up next, and also... Combo system coming soon!

Well, its basically the coolest RPG battle system out there, but its still a little incomplete. All its missing is a special move and and combo system.2011-08-01 01:25:00

Wow, I'm quite impressed with this since it incorporated several different styles of a turn-based battle system for players to use! The character models could use some refining to smooth out the sharp edges though, but the level of detail on them were still great! I liked the custom music too, since it reminded me of Kingdom Hearts somehow. The Ultra system is definitely my favorite system to use as it was fast-paced and required just a bit more attention from players to survive; like what AtlanteanNomad7 mentioned, controlling each of the characters simultaneously added a bit of a challenge to the gameplay, making things more exciting. However, I wasn't exactly able to see all of the animations well while using the Ultra, since I was concentrating mostly on the Turn gauges. Not sure if that's too much of a deal though, but I just thought I'd mention it. ^^; Will you actually be allowing the player to choose between whichever style they'd like to battle with in the finished product?

Oh by the way, when you get the chance could you also play through my newest level (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=60674-A-Walk-in-the-Art-(Art-Gallery))? It's not related to horror at all (although, I wish it was XD), but I just thought you might be interested in it since you also build character models with materials.

Got to play another great level, I'm on a roll . I'm glad you messaged me about this, since it truly is a very good level. I'm not versed in all these FF elements, but the mechanics were easy to grasp. I'd love to see additional enemies, perhaps even multiple at once?

As for ignoring everything but the gauge, I had this happen to me. Perhaps some sound/shout/cue/indicator which appears near the character when they can act.

I was being harassed by my friends when I played this though, since they wanted to do something as well. Perhaps allow multiple players to control their own unit, instead of all by just 1. I'll give it another run when I next go through my queue, since I probably missed several things initially.

F4F for merc's, in sig.

Thanks for playing SSTAGG! Remember, this is just a beta, so your opinion is very important. For example, your multiple enemy idea sounds interesting. It can be done but its gonna destroy the thermo because it takes a lot of extra logic to accomplish that. And yes there is a beta that allow more than 1 player to fight. Give it another go and see it for yourself (its the multi- system). Thanks once again and keep in touch for the REAL deal, Swordsman's Story chapter 3!!!2011-08-03 22:32:00
