Since When? (no controller spectator)

Archive: 16 posts

In LBP 1, if a game required only one player, but there was more than one player, you could just switch off your controller - your sackboy would disappear after about 30 seconds - and then you could just spectate the single sackboy play through the level.

A similar scenario just happened to me in LBP2 - so I switched off my controller, only now you get an annoying "PRESS PS BUTTON TO SWITCH ON YOUR CONTROLLER" text box appear right in the middle of the screen - and then eventually get the "You have been kicked from the game to make space for players with PS Controllers attached!" message.

So I take it there's no spectating in LBP2 then?

That's a shame

In the beginning of a level it's creator could include three invisible holograms with controllinators that don't do anything and that follow the player (that's meant to play alone)... Of course they'd have to enter it manually so there's no confusion about who plays and who spectates.

It'd be funny, the spectators getting near the sackboy of the "active" player, a triangle pops up and they "enter" him like he's a controllable sackbot

But that kind of thing wasn't required at all with LBP1; it was just a simple way that 2+ sackboys could enjoy a 1-player only level.

This is the first time I've noticed that this functionality is missing from LBP2;
Seems a bit of a step backwards if you ask me.

Yeah, you get kicked quite quickly after you turn off your controller which sucks.

I'm not sure it was ever intentional functionality.

Ugh I loved that benefit in LBP. I mean, I sometimes gotta "Brb" and stuff you know? Since the game camera follows different players time to time, I don't want to be a hassle to other players when I have to do something important and have to put my controller down. Now that it isn't possible, it's like..."Play or GTFO". I get kicked in less than a few minutes... 2011-07-30 02:43:00

Pretty much nothing in LBP is "intended functionality" - the 3D glitch being a prime example.
The community just works with what they've got - only now, it appears we have less to work with

That's not what I meant. It was likely implemented to kick people who were afk and their controllers turned off so nobody else could join.

Yeah and using the holo/controllinator/follower costs thermo big time. That could be a fix they could add to a level where it was set to number of players, and then other players auto spectate...it would save tons of thermo. used to fight tooth and nail about hte 3D beccause I had lost 3 levels to LBP level corruptions and was not going to take a chance with another because of the 3D suddenly havig some surprise you've lost everything glitch. I waited for the official 3D release they had talked about since LBP 1...adn finally gave up and updated two levels so far for it.2011-07-30 03:36:00

Was that ever really a big problem?

The host is still in control with "Manage players" ; if someone is AFK - it might be for a reason - say, because they are AFK (but will be back in 2 minutes). If someone is just slot-blocking, then the host can kick them at any time.

'Most' people (myself), only used this functionality as a "spectate" mode. Which it was great for.
Now there is no "spectate mode".

I prefered the old way (I fear change!)

I could also (maybe) understand it if there were really no slots left and you were indeed blocking another player from joining.

But there were only 2 people - me & the host - when I tried, and I was still kicked.

Ahh. The slightest thought hadn't even begun to speculate about the merest possibility of crossing my mind.

Darn cheats have to ruin things for EVERYONE don't they
