Mario Party: Sony Style

Archive: 8 posts

This is very premature for me to be posting, but I had an idea and got to some small work. I made the dice sequence from Mario Party (Stationary, immovable sackbot which can only jump ONCE. That jump stops the die, setting the amount of spaces the character can move in his following turn; turned out beautifully, including the *bump* of the die when my sackbot (Mario!) hit his head on it. Decided it would be a cool idea.

But.. of course theres a problem. I can't fit a whole Mario Party style map into a stage, as well as 30 or so minigames. So BAM! I thought, level links. Well, the problem is that I can't switch from the level containing the stage and all the spots and characters, to a level containing the minigame, and then back to the first level, without it starting back at the beginning.

So my question is.. how can I mesh a whole Mario Party stage and logic set, with 20-30 minigames, while keeping track of everything in the meantime.

This may be a stupid question, as there may be no way, but I'd like to know for sure before I dump the idea, because, who wants to play Mario Party with 4 minigames

PS: This is not me giving up on my CoD Level either, I am still working on that at a great degree.

Good luck with making the board I gave up trying to add a board feature for mine, so I just stuck with a tournament style mode of Party games.

But what I did for the minigames is had them all in emitters within a piece of dark matter holding another emitter (they chain together adding almost no thermo space, however overdo it with the minigames and your level will freeze people PS3's which just happened to mine)

I had a piece of logic that tells when a winner (or draw) happens that triggers another tag, this signals the end of game and showed who the winner was then gave him/her points, then after it turns on another tag, this tag destroys EVERYTHING from the minigame, so it can properly emit again or won't get in the way of another minigame, this also destorys the piece of dark matter which held the mother emitter.

I'd give more pointers but its very late here, maybe i'll add more tomorrow

Very clever. But for the board idea I had, Im doubting there is anyway to transfer such immense data between levels. I was thinking of comphermc's data transfer system, but laughed that off because the amount of logic I'd need for that would probably cause my PS3 to implode.

I look forward to playing your level multiple times, with many different people

Wow this would be great mario party is one of my favourite games. If the map is a reasonable size and doesn't use too much thermo you could get away with emitting the mni levels but the design and look may have to be simple. i'd say build a map and see what happens thermo wise from there.

Instead of actual characters on the board you could try to use icons representing the characters like marios head instead of a sack version. Still use sack versions for the minigames though. It might not be as fancy but would use less thermo and still look good.

Thanks for the ideas, I am no good at thermometer saving, so this may be difficult. But once I finish my CoD level, Ill see what I can do.2011-07-29 17:50:00

There already are a few levels like this. I was working on something similar also but didn't build on it anymore since iv'e seen there are many other good "mario party" levels.
In the LBPC2 competition there is also a pretty good one with fun minigames.

you could just have your sackbot stay in place while you "teleport" to another controlinator. And then once the minigame is over you "teleport" back to your sackbot.2011-08-01 01:30:00

Sounds like an awesome idea. Thought of making a level based around the Life board game, but it didn't turn out how I liked it. Good luck with your project!

Speaking of board games, there's going to be a Battleship movie. How do you make a Battleship movie? By adding alien spacecraft. So many "approach the aliens with guns" movies nowadays.
