(LBPC2) The Mercenaries: Competitive Online Shooter

Wow dude you've managed to create one of the most impressive top-down shooters I've seen in my lifetime An incredible map packed with an easy control scheme, awesome gun variations, and to top it off kill streaks?! I am not worthy of this much awesomness!, Great job dude and extra thanks to those whp helped make this possible as well. (lordwarblade, duxy87 and VolcanicThor, give yourselves a cookie fellas!)
This level is an online only, multiplayer level. It works best with 3-4 players.

Some features are:
- 10 unique weapons
- 2 unique grenades
- 4 advanced Battle Rewards
- A variety of music pieces
- A tutorial and controls guide
- Interactive map (sandbags and oil barrels)

(It was hard to take a nice pic of it. In the level, the fire doesn't look disconnected)

I really hope you all enjoy this. I spent roughly 18 days putting this together. Would have like to have more time, but 2 vacations this month made it quite difficult.

Also, I check back here often and am willing to do F4F for just about anything.

An update. I fixed the flamethrower to now correctly deal damage over time (and added a 'lit on fire' effect that I think works great).

I added health dispensers which heal 50% health when you approach.

Also, for anyone that tried to play this earlier today, I was having some issues publishing, and you may have played a broken version I uploaded just to see if any of my levels could be published.

EDIT: I also added the DOT and fire effect when in contact with a flame for too long. I'm going to be away for the weekend, so any F4F will be done when I return.

Having played this level a few times now, i can say that the level plays extremely well. Creators in LBP2 are really beginning to get to grips with what the engine can do and a new breed of levels are beginning to emerge. This is one of them.

Breaking the mold of standard platforming, or your 'typical top down mini game'. The Mercenaries has a lot more than meets the eye, which is substantial when considering what does meet the eye (and ears) is a beautifully crafted level with painstaking attention to detail and an impressive collection of visuals and well placed voice overs and sound effects, each chosen to fit a very defined 'dystopian future' look and feel.

The game play is very solid and akin to that of an actual shoot-em-up style game, where your weapon of choice, use of environment, positioning in the map and all important aiming and reflex instinct are active factors in wether you fail hard or rack up some kills, awarding you an impressive array of 'kill streak awards' each functioning smoothly and created in an individual yet balanced manner.

Deffinately one to be put on your hearted list and come back to with your mates regularly.

Well I really can't say anymore else about this level, it rocks hard and it delivers. Great job on this and I'm loving the new level badge You've fixed most of the bugs and whatnot. Ah, darn, too bad I'm away for the weekend. Going to play it as soon as I get back.

Also, funny story. I tested my level last night with a few other players, and discovered that the Attack UAV did not work for player 3 or 4 when I used it. Since I had only recently 'fixed' the killstreaks, I forgot that should never happen (initially, a player could lose control of their killstreaks if they switched back to their player and used their scope, which I had done). Turns out that I had forgotten a fairly vital change in my fix, making the DCS receivers react to player 3 and 4. I fixed that this morning in the ~10 minutes I had before I left.

Awesome that I had decided to play my level last night with 2 others, me being 3rd player, else I never would have found this.

Also, thanks for the awesome reviews everyone, I'll be back on Monday or Tuesday to complete all these F4F.

Me and daj just did a play through. This is an extremely fun game, I sampled all the weapons I could and beat daj's butt with all of them It was pretty smooth but I did have a few problems. I couldn't figure out the reward system, all those kills and nothing to spend it on Looking back I assume it had something to do with the D-pad. Both me and daj had a hard time absorbing the information from the tutorial because there was just so much to learn at once. Wouldn't be the same story if I played it again though, the controls can be a bit daunting at first but they are easy to learn, I was sniping daj from across the map in no time Overall it is a great game, Im probably going to revisit it later with more friends.

Well, turns out I'm back now . Too bad I'm just out of time to make any last-minute changes. I'll keep your issue in mind though, as I should make it more clear how to use the rewards.

For future reference, it's right on the d-pad.

Going to check out your entry once I find another player.

I played your level. Thank you for your feedback, here is my feedback.

I had to play it myself for I had no friends at the time. This was different. Visuals seemed well put together. Game play flowed smoothly with no lag. I did not find any bugs or game play issues with your level. Overall, this was a well made level. Sorry I could not give more feedback, but I do not play multiplayer games (only by myself which is not fun).

Thank you for creating and sharing this level.

I just played the level. It's great shooting level, really enjoyed throwing granades and changing weapons. Besides of a nice scenary to beat other players. Good work! 2011-08-06 21:40:00
