Lap System

How would i go about making a lap system like the one in SBG's Overcharged 3d racer? You keep driving forwards, but there's no level limit. I've tried emitting the track pieces, but that wasn't the effect he used :/ | 2011-07-28 20:44:00 Author: Unknown User |
I haven't played that level in a while but I'm sure there were turns in it. You could just copy and paste the track so that you go through parts that look the same. | 2011-07-28 21:58:00 Author: Zero10100 Posts: 385 |

I havent played that level. But, one way to do it is too use the 'emmit the next part of track off screen/delete the old offscreen' approach. Or... use the 'Wheel and bolt' method. Make a huge, (40x40 large grid squares) square block of thin stone and put it to the back thin layer. Make a huge, (40x40 large grid squares) circle of 1 layer thick stone (a suitable road material) Place the circular block over the square thin one exactly and place a motor bolt directly in the centrenow the 'road block will spin. On the racing car (viewed top-down) there is a game camera that is zoomed in to focus on viewing just a section of the road the car is on. Because the 'rotating road' is so large and cos the players view is so small an area of the spinning road block. they dont see that its spinnig. but instead that its a straigt road coming at you. (the road block has to be huge for this effect to work (think of how the earth works- you dont notice its spinning cos its so big) Its hard to explain right. Its not the car that moves, but the road its on. Maybe he makes the car go faster or slower by connecting the accelerate button on his controllinator to the motor bolt that rotates the road and has the motor bolt set to Speed Scale? again i havent seen the level, so this is just 1 way to do it. | 2011-07-29 15:24:00 Author: Sean88 Posts: 662 |
I'm not sure OP's question matches the title, since there can't be laps on a track that has no turns... unless it's on a sphere or moebius strip or something. | 2011-07-30 03:01:00 Author: Ayneh Posts: 2454 |
