"Wallace and Gromit: Moon Cheese!" - A Little(Big?) Idea of Mine (ON HOLD)
Archive: 20 posts
Wallace and Gromit: Moon Cheese! http://img809.imageshack.us/img809/4014/mooncheese.jpg I'm taking a break from creating my shooter to try out a fairly less violent game. This level is roughly based on the clay-mation film, Wallace and Gromit: "A Grand Day Out". For those that aren't aware of Wallace and Gromit...shame on you . It's basically an inventor and his dog who do/make things, but all with some ridiculous goal in mind. This idea is based on designing a rocket ship to reach the moon for the sole reason of eating some cheese. How it'll work is that players start off with a flimsy littly flying machine. They send these into the air in order to collect cash and materials in order to upgrade their machine, thus allowing them to fly further, collecting more cash and materials. Points Earned by: - Flight duration - Flight distance - Collected 'floating' cash - Amount of damage sustained (subtracts from score) Points Spent On: - Larger fuel tanks - Stronger thrusters - Better fins (ailerons) - Additional thrusters - Stronger Hull - Larger collection radius Obstacles will block you from progressing, and will damage your craft. When destroyed (or runs out of fuel), your craft falls back to the ground. Obstacles Are: - Birds - Storms - Kites - Aircraft - Helicopters - UFOs - Asteroids - Meteoroids - Etc There are several flash games based on this, where players launch something into the sky in order to reach space, the moon, or something else. It'll be multiplayer compatible (2 player splitscreen, 4 player online). I'm going to make splitscreen by dividing the screen into 2, and giving each side an independent 'world'. Online wouldn't have screen issues, so it could all be played in 1 world. Single player would just use same design as online. When you finally reach 400000km, a cutscene would show you on the moon, eating cheese. It would also give you a significant score bonus, making it likely you would win. I'll also likely limit the time, to make high scores the result of skill instead of time. To the community: Would anyone like to help out by making some visuals? I need them to look very well made, so be sure you're up to it, and take your time. Also, if anyone is interested in doing some music for this? | 2011-07-28 20:22:00 Author: SSTAGG1 Posts: 1136 |
Amazing idea based on an amazing movie, Ive played some games like this, and trust me, theyre addicting. | 2011-07-29 01:05:00 Author: Clayton Posts: 181 |
Also, I could do music, have a particular song in mind? Because I can recreate beautifully, but I can't create from scratch. | 2011-07-29 01:08:00 Author: Clayton Posts: 181 |
Sounds amazing as i haven't seen any levels like that yet and i really hope to see one | 2011-07-29 04:33:00 Author: koltonaugust Posts: 1382 |
I know you're looking at multiple publishing points, but perhaps it would be better to release the "Limited" and "unlimited" versions of the game (Aka time limit/ no time limit.) | 2011-07-29 05:56:00 Author: Eternal_Rise Posts: 113 |
I know you're looking at multiple publishing points, but perhaps it would be better to release the "Limited" and "unlimited" versions of the game (Aka time limit/ no time limit.) Ah, yes, good idea. Also, Clayton, do you have anything to show. Just invite me next time we're both on. | 2011-07-29 08:04:00 Author: SSTAGG1 Posts: 1136 |
Also, Clayton, do you have anything to show. Just invite me next time we're both on. I got some stuff, not a lot though. But have you played any Zelda games? Because most my stuff is recreations of those songs. I am also working on the Gustaberg theme (which I am being credited for ) for Venat (PSN: edsderfdrrtggb), who is working on a Final Fantasy XI Online project Im sure you are aware of. I can show you that, though I have made only 3 out of the 4 minutes of the song. Also, for a Majora's Mask Prequel Project by kuppokid, I have made the Stone Tower Temple Theme from Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, which I can give a listen on. Google those two songs and give them a listen before you hear mine, because you need to know if it is accurate when compared to the legit thing. Anyways, I'll invite you in and give you a listen, you can give me the yes/no (It's fine if you say no, I've said it to many others before), and if so, I'll get working on whatever you request. | 2011-07-29 09:11:00 Author: Clayton Posts: 181 |
Sorry about earlier, I was so caught up with finishing up my level that I completely forgot I meant to join you. What I'm going to need allot of are nice sound effects. Actual music would take the backdrop. I can make some nice sounds (did most all of them for my merc's level), but since I'm not restricted to a 4 member create team, any help is always looked for. I'm going to start making this tonight. It should be fairly easy to make, so I could potentially have something ready very soon. EDIT: (BAH, fell asleep and turns out I'm going out for the weekend). | 2011-07-30 01:43:00 Author: SSTAGG1 Posts: 1136 |
Ahaha, that's fine, almost all the people I'm working on projects with are going away as well, it'll give me time to catch up on what I owe them and my own stuff. Im makin a new tech demo for my upcoming level, you can test it out when Im done if you want. | 2011-07-30 12:06:00 Author: Clayton Posts: 181 |
OMGEE Wallace and Gromit!!! I love those shows!!! Good luck SSTAGG | 2011-07-30 13:21:00 Author: Unknown User |
....and so begins another epic project I may be interested in helping you with some visuals, hit me up next time I'm on | 2011-07-31 17:30:00 Author: damaz10 Posts: 771 |
I can make you some visuals if they're still needed | 2011-07-31 19:39:00 Author: Brian_Istenes Posts: 151 |
I haven't actually started making this yet as I've been away all weekend. To everyone that wanted to help (Brian, damaz, and Clayton), I'm going to add you all on PSN. I'm going to be on later tonight (until about 5 hours from now), and will start it then. I'll try to have some of the logic done for launching and controls, so it should be 'playable' fairly quickly, and would be able to give you all an idea of how it's going to play. I have a question though. How much of a focus should there be on including "Wallace and Gromit" into the level? I doubt many people have heard of them, but theming it to include them could be pretty cool. I'm going to need someone very familiar with W&G though. | 2011-08-01 03:40:00 Author: SSTAGG1 Posts: 1136 |
I say just have lots of reference Examples: Money is gathered instead of cash, by cheese (To Bake O' Lite Balloon Dog-Fighter (Dog in airplane) Have rats each time watch the lift off and have the launch button say "Release Hand Brake" Also I think it'd be cool to reference other games of the type Examples: Penguin on a Glider (Obstacle goes horizontally) ((Possibly have 50% of time have the penguin have a glove on his head)) Hedgehog with Jetpack (Obstacle goes Vertically) Turtle flies across screen (Obstacle arcs) | 2011-08-01 06:30:00 Author: Brian_Istenes Posts: 151 |

Great ideas. Need to add a cat in there somewhere as well, since I'm pretty sure that started the entire genre of game. I take it you know a bit about W&G? I only just saw A Grand Day Out, but my friend's always watching them, so these references, I may need some help with. Rat idea is great btw. | 2011-08-01 06:34:00 Author: SSTAGG1 Posts: 1136 |
Bake O' Lite is from "Loaf and Death" where the antagonist was once a model for them and had the balloon but became fat due to the bread Dog-Fighter is from "Curse of the Were-Rabbit" where Gromit and another dog are having an air battle in toy planes The Glove on the penguin is from "The Wrong Trousers" where the penguin robs banks dressed as a chicken | 2011-08-01 06:38:00 Author: Brian_Istenes Posts: 151 |
Alright, so it seems like directly theming this to match W&G would be the best option. I haven't been playing LBP much lately, so there is still hardly anything done. My goal for tonight is just to make the logic system that determines rocket force and acceleration. It should be fairly simple to do, just a series of adders going into the strength of the mover. First thing though is to make a plan for all the upgrades and such. What are some thoughts on this: - 3 different ship types (speed, agility, durability) - Can mix and match parts from each ship, so thrusters from speed, fins from agility, hull from durability for example - Bonus is given if all ship part types match - Permanent and single-use items can be bought and used - Gadgets can be used against the other players Also, I think I may have thought of a way for each player to have their own complete HUD, even when on the screen with other players. This is completely untested and probably not true. If the HUDs were placed far enough in the foreground, only the player directly looking at it would have the correct camera position to see it. it's going to be hard to design it though, so I'll likely just stick to a very simplistic circular HUD (for various reasons discussed a while before about my mercs game, which I didn't have time to implement). Thanks to AntiKris and LoVeRiCe for directly/indirectly helping me think of these ideas. I also want some names for each ship type. Durable would look like the actual W&G rocket from the movie, agile would look like a winged missile, and speed would just be a giant rocket (like the Apollo mission rockets). I have more stuff to add, but I'll leave it here for now . | 2011-08-02 05:23:00 Author: SSTAGG1 Posts: 1136 |
I'm a massive fan of wallace and gromit! Although I might not be able to help with the building I would love to test out and share ideas with you guys towards this level in create mode. | 2011-08-02 19:26:00 Author: Unknown User |
i remember wallace and gromit! the recent one was the werewolf one right? also cant wait to see this and i hope it has a distinct animation from lbp2. | 2011-08-03 20:47:00 Author: majormel84 Posts: 398 |
I made a system that acts as if a mover is both strength and speed-scale input, and have the upgrade logic done. Next step is fuel, cash, and pickups. Once I get the main game design done, I'll work on making it match the W&G theme. I'll need some help with the dialogue, since I really am not very knowledgeable about W&G. Also....voice work? I think it'd be spectacular if we could get someone to voice Wallace. | 2011-08-03 22:09:00 Author: SSTAGG1 Posts: 1136 |
