Tomb Raider - level 1: The Caves

Archive: 2 posts

Hi guys, this is my first LBP2 level, and my second level overall.
It's part of a series I'm currently working on in which, as you can tell by the title, I'm recreating the original Tomb Raider levels. So far, I've made the first two levels, but I plan on making more, although I can't tell if I'll ever finish it, depends on their popularity.

My goal with this series is to meticulously recreate the original levels. Tomb Raider is a very nostalgic series for me and I know almost every corner of the levels from playing the games a lot. As such, I wanted to transfer the atmosphere of the original game to LBP by converting the 3D levels to LBP's 2.5D in a clever and efficient way, making use of LBP2's new logic system to create teleportation to sub-rooms and cinematic cameras. That results in a level that looks almost like the original levels and give you a nostalgic feel if you're a fan of the series.

Notes:
-Please play this alone. Playing it with friends will wreck some of the game's mechanics, like probably enemy behavior, or the cameras may not work as well if two players are in distant parts of the level, or timed traps may become annoying if everyone's trying to do them at the same time.
-Like the original, this level has secrets, although only only 2 of the 3 as of now, but I'll be adding the third one where it belongs in the game. And yes, they're exactly in the same locations as in the original game, they're a small medipack, and a chime will play once you grab them, giving you 100 points.
-The end of the level links you to the second level: "City of Vilcabamba"

-The level is still in a beta phase. I'll be relying on your critiques to change it to the better. Right now it has no title screen or an intro. If you really want one, I'll try adding it. Also, the enemies look very simple, although it was very hard for me to rig all the logic inside them, so if you have any hints, fire away. As for the secrets, I'd like to add some sort of bonus for finding all of them, so if you have any idea of something i could reward you with, like an object form the levels, an enemy, a mechanic, etc., tell me. also in the secrets theme, if anyone can make a better "secret found" chime, please help me out, because mine is a bit off. Lastly, what do you think about the level link? should the level end with a scoreboard or is it ok like it is?

So, hope you all like it, and I'll be awaiting your feedback.

Ok, played it and 2nd. Great flash backs and nostalgia! Nice recreation (especially with extra layers, they can be annoying!)

I got stuck on 2nd lvl (my fault I assume) >.< been far too long to recall from memory and I ran in circles for a awhile :s (btw, don't ever remember those darts being so deadly hehe)

(also, tiles loose in pool on 2nd level, pretty sure that wasn't in the original XD)

U could give bats a little more movement speed

Nice job tho, very different engines and u did a pretty close recreation =]
