LBP.Me Trending Levels? I'm confused...

Archive: 6 posts

I recently checked the main LBP.ME page and discovered I had taken the 4 (later 6th) spot in the trending levels (http://lbp.me/search?t=trending).

How.....?! I sometimes see some odd levels there, but they generally tend to be very popular.

What I want to know is what factors influence what makes a level 'trending'. Is it just someone spamming the refresh button on the page (in which case, thanks to whoever you are, lol ), or is it more advanced?

I noticed one of the connections made when loading a level page is '...webtrends...', so I'm leaning towards it being based on number of views.

Also, is there any time limit to appearing there. Some older levels are only a few places down.

I don't think there has been any official information on it, but it must have something to do with lbp.me page views and/or queuing. Possibly they got a standard package for web visitor trends installed, in which case they might not even know exactly how the ranking is calculated themselves. 2011-07-28 13:42:00

I'm sure if they released the exact algorithm on how this is calculated that it would be quickly abused.

Maybe we should test it out by having a newly published level be reloaded over and over by refreshing the page on LBP.me?

Yes, testing would be a good idea; however, if the method became known to the general public, it would be heavily abused, so if tests are done, they should be kept private. Anyway, I always though it was different users queuing it.2011-07-28 14:46:00

That's a bit of a contradiction, don't you think? Any test involving more than two or three people would almost certainly become public knowledge. Personally, I think it'd be better to let this one lie and just assume it works well enough without us knowing exactly how.

I'm fairly certain I found out how to improve your rank, but like written above, prob best not to say anything about it.2011-07-28 15:57:00
