Hello LBP Community

Archive: 16 posts

I am an enthusiac level creator for the first LBP. I have th GOTY edition. I've come to this community desperately seeking plays on my levels. It seems that the world is full of copies and it's getting less original by the second. I admit that i've copied a few as an attempt to get plays, but nothing seems to work. The most level plays I have on my maps is 156. I look at some of the newly created levels and they get over 1000 within the first couple of hours and it's nothin but a copy of someone else's hard work. A sad community this has become.2011-07-27 06:21:00

Welcome to LBPC, while there is a load of rubbish about, think of creating as creating simply for your friends, on a fansite, I find good feedback much more rewarding than a play.

Welcome! Glad ya made it!

I feel your pain... your best approach to combat the weirdness on the cool pages is to post your level in the Level Showcase. If you level is good enough, it might make the LBPC Community Spotlight which is a pretty cool thing to achieve.

Let us know if you have any questions!

Have fun!

Well I have been creating for fun, but if no one plays it. What's the point? Waste of time right? I just created a HUGE maze took 6 hours non stop. It's not about the plays, I just wish people could see some of the stuff I create. Not a bunch of copied material.2011-07-27 21:59:00

True, it is more fun when you see your creation get some plays.

All I can suggest is post your level in the Level Showcase and utilize F4F to its full potential. To do that you MUST play lots of other F4F levels in the showcase and leave them constructive feedback. Then ask for them to return the favor to honor their F4F. Waiting for others to come by and give it a play will usually result in a very lonely thread.

Also.. Post Pictures in your level threads! Sell your level with some eye candy! Make a great description, talk it up! Give them something to go "Oooo.. I want to play that!"

Another thing that helps outside the community is a great level badge when you first publish. Using a common sticker like you did in your ****ed to Hell level usually won't grab any attention at all.

Something else to consider.. Saying you spent 6 whole hours on your level isn't going to wow many here. I think the average around here on a level is some 1 - 2 months total time. The last one I did took some 2 - 3 months and it was a mini game. A full level takes me some 4 months or so. So you might want to take that in consideration when talking up your level.

I just created a HUGE maze took 6 hours non stop.

Usually a decent level take a lot more hour. For example i've worked on a level for around 110hours so far and i'm not half done.
If you want plays just post on the level showcase.
Tips: Review other people levels and ask them to do the same on your level.

Well this is just a maze. I'm sure people could create a half-wit in far less time. I know you both have LBP2 which I'm sure with all the tools you have, you have many more options to explore. In LBP1 it all seems like it's all already done. I'm no expert creator. I fail at a lot of great ideas because I either don't know how to do it or LBP tools are too limited for me to try. For example, I tried to create an Icy Tower clone but I didn't even know where to start. I saw many different examples of the stuff LBP2 can do and I do wish I had the money for that. That's why I try to keep my levels simple but challenging because it seems as if all the good ideas are done. Most of the LBP1 community is copied anyway.

{EDIT} btw thanks for the feedback. I'll change the ICON, the 6 hours thing isn't something to lure people. I have plenty other games and to spend that much time on one game other than Mortal Kombat is something new to me. I've already queued up some levels so i'll check em out. Tired of playing copies.

Most welcome! We really are here to help!

As far as LBP2... True there are a few more options in LBP2 with the new logic and movers etc, but there is a ton of stuff you can do with LBP1. Believe it or not, some really incredible levels were made with the same tools you have currently. It just takes a ton of time, dedication, and practice to get good at the tools. For example.. the single most important tool ever.. the corner editor. That is one amazing tool and the best friend of any good creator.

Feel free to check out the Tutorials or if you need some help make a thread in the Help forum. We can help you improve and perhaps a few more plays in your future levels.

Good luck!
