Help with a menu?

Archive: 7 posts

I've got a menu going for my level and it works fine for the most part. But one problem that I'm having is that when I switch in between sub menus, as soon as I switch, one of the outputs of the menu are automatically activated. Bear with me while I try to explain my set up: ive actually used these videos to make my menu, so you could just watch this, i didn't follow this exactly but this is mostly what I did http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I2TXQ75UQdk http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YVhax...eature=related.

If you don't want to watch the videos, ill just try to explain my set up.

i made all of the menus from scratch with hologram material and the cursor used for selection works with a selector and AND gates. Each menu is controlled with a remote controlled controllinator with the transmitter being at the main menu. There are toggle switches in between the last three menus and a selector in between the first two, this is to ensure that menus im not using are deactivated.

Ok so Ive got a main menu and a sub menu ("music") that has two other sub menus branching off of it (both are "difficulty"). And ive got a level link connected to each output of each option of both difficulty menus (4 difficulties, 8 level links total). What should happen is: You start at the main menu, choose "start," choose a song, and then choose your difficulty. and then get transported to the level. But the problem is, as soon as I start the level (the menu) one of the level links are already activated, even though I only pressed X once. I've been over all of the connections, and double checked them fifty times. Theres nothing else outputted to the level link then desired. Ive even redone the entire process watching ever single output and still the same problem. Ive tried using a toggle to deactivate the menus Im not currently using until I get there, but the problem still persists. I tried the same thing with a selector too. And also, sometimes when I use a toggle for the two difficulty menus, the music menu won't switch to them. I tried putting a counter with a two count (instead of the one count which is what im using) but it still doesnt work. It fixes the problem, the level link isnt automatically activated, but then you cant activate it at all, no matter how many times you press X.

So, can someone help me out?

It sounds like you need a timer to stop the menus from activating.2011-07-26 18:27:00

I had the same issue. Just place a one-shot counter which resets itself wired between the X button and your logic. This means the X button will only ever activate for 1/30th of a second so it shouldn't activate the logic in the sub-menu.

Thanks, that fixed it but now I got a new problem. When I press "start" at the main menu, its skips the music sub menu and goes straight to the second difficulty sub menu. Suggestions?

How exactly do I do this?

Use an inverted timer set to a small time(around .1-.4). Use X as the reset and wire it into an AND gate for all of the menu options.
