Mountain Slide

Archive: 9 posts

This level was originally going to be a "Penguin" Survival. Don't ask me how.. It didn't work the way I wanted it to. So I just stuck to making it a race kind of level where you slide and jump across icy platforms and pick up point bubbles! It's not PURELY just that, there's some backgrounds, characters, mechanics, etc.

Let me know if you like it! I think you will!

So I just played through it a couple of times. I must say, my favorite thing is how clean it looks. Too often I encounter levels like this where everything looks terrible. I like that you kept everything nice and simple.
There's really not much to change except at the elevator. This is pretty much the only part of the level that you get a truly extended look at. It might be worth it to go the extra mile and add some details, such as doors or a detailed shaft or something. While it doesn't necessarilly look bad as it is, there's no getting around the fact that its just a functional metal box. Also with the elevator as it is, if people decide to jump out before it hits the glass they're stuck. While it is completely their fault it would be better to change the control switches movement from on/off to directional so that it will return if needed. The spotlight from mgs would work best. Or you can put a checkpoint in the elevator so that people can still reach it if needed.
Other than the elevator I would not change much about the level. It has everything a sliding level needs. Congrats on your accomplishment.

Thanks for the feedback!

I made this level a while ago, and did not know much logic-wise. (I wouldn't say I'm too familiar now either, although I have more difficult concepts nailed) I will definitely look into the elevator! I never realized the loophole if the player just randomly decides to jump out before it goes behind the glass. I'll add you on PSN tomorrow, and perhaps you could help me improve the elevator in-game as far as suggestions go. Thanks for playing!

I appreciated the idea of the level, but this one was hard for me. On some of the jumps I couldn't see where I was going to land and missed the landing. It may have been the way I was jumping, or the camera angle; not sure. I spent so much time evaporating in the poison gas that I almost quit playing. I finally got to the point where there were 2 half-circle pieces of track (with a save point) and all I did after leaving the second one was fly past some bits of dark matter, then land on a skateboard in a pile of bananas. I tried different tactics at that point but never got anywhere.2011-07-30 12:05:00

I played this around 5 times, in all of them I was unable to reach the end since the elevator completely flipped out at one point no matter what I did, it allways went crazy going up and down (killing my sackboy thus making the elevator come down, didn't solve the problem). I also think I found that you can cheat and go to the elevator almost instantly. I don't know if that's a possible exploit orjust the way it's supposed to be played... One other improvement: Close the level, sometimes I fell into the bottom of the level and had to pop my sackboy to get back up!
The looks, as said above, are neat, you could and should add more details and explore the different materials available in order to put it all together and make it look as a whole level not sections of different obstacles that you created.
Also, the cameras need to be tweaked, at times I was unable to see where I was going and completely failed.
I can't evaluate the overall gameplay since the elevator part kept me from continuing! Fix that and I will play it 4 or 5 more times and tell you what I thought

Also, if you could leave feedback on my level "Insomnia" I would very much appreciate it!

ha. That's actually my bad. I was helping him make controls but I never finished. You must have played after that.
