Can't join? Profile corrupt?! (FIXED :D )

Archive: 6 posts

I have recently been unable to join or be joined by other players.

This occurred after the game froze while receiving a join request (join me). I was away, and received the join request while in the screen saver video that plays when in the Pod. When I returned, the video had stopped (was frozen), and the message was displayed above. The player that had requested to join had logged off more than 30 minutes before. This most likely means the game froze very soon after getting the request.

After trying to join for a few hours (on and off, was creating) I 'restored the file system' using the recovery menu and removed corruption on the PS3 (or so the PS3 says...), and reinstalled LBP2, but it is still not working.

I'm now thinking it is my profile that is corrupt.

Has anyone else been unable to join recently? If it's just me, does anyone know of a way to 'reset' your profile without losing it.

I suppose I could save all my projects externally, start a new profile, and then continue from there, but that's fairly drastic IMO.

EDIT: Some more info...

When I join using the start menu, the game freezes for a moment (though costume animations still work...eg: a waving cape).
When I join using the friend's tab in the Pod controller, it goes to the player, gives a long loading circle around them, and then fails.
I never receive join requests anymore.
The fail message is always "Fail: Unable to connect".

I both invited you and tried to join you but I didn't get any response. Was the join request from me?2011-07-25 21:39:00

Some more updates. Seems to have gotten much more severe now. I can now see requests, but whenever I try to join another player while not in the Pod, the game freezes for a few minutes. Whenever in the Pod, everything goes wacky. I exit the DCS, fly at the ceiling, enter the DCS (from the ceiling), and then proceed to go to my comments page...oh, and did I mention that my earth and moon become giant ! marks....no I don't think I did.

I'm just going to save all my stuff to HD, reset my profile to an earlier backup and import all my stuff again. BAH! What a waste of time.

Awesome coincidence isn't it. Unable to play online when I'm entering a multiplayer contest....lol...

Oh, and Willman, it wasn't you. I saw them, they failed, you tried to join? I accept, but nothing happens.

Oh, that's terrible. I wouldn't want that to happen to me
Hope you complete story mode quickly.

Okay, something is messed up. I uninstalled LBP, deleted my current profile, so removed everything but backups. I then proceeded to play the game (did not import LBP1), and finished act 1 so I could play online.

Guess what, same issue.

Seriously, wtf.

I can still create and everything, but doing so with another player, anywhere, no chance...

For anyone that sees this: DO NOT send me join requests anymore. If I accidentally accept, my game freezes.

EDIT: Seems my reckless attempt at fixing this served a purpose. It's not as glitchy as before. Freezes are shorter, and the only issues with the pod controller is that it becomes unresponsive.

I'm going to try playing on my other account to see if it's the disc or something.

Hurray, issues are all gone. I disabled uPnP on my internet connection settings, and suddenly everything worked.

How having it enabled completely glitched LBP, I have absolutely no idea. I understand the connection failures....but freezing, everything glitching, extremely unresponsive controls, etc.....I dunno.

I found it by testing connection, and it would never be able to get past the uPnP part. Also, why it suddenly stopped working now.... Again, I dunno.
