Opinions on Continuity

Archive: 9 posts

Hey all. This isn't so much a hardware issue as a continuity dillema. Basically, sackboy is smaller than my created characters. However, he must eventually complete a course my created soldiers use. The problem is the size difference. I made everything to match sackboy but realistically, it's too small for the characters. So I saw a few options for this. I could
a) ignore it, it's just a game within a video game
b) make one of the characters mention they are adusting the obstacles to match sackboys size
I picked option b but it seems lame, especially since its arguably more unlikely for them to be able to completely change a series of obstacles. The only other option is to make them to fit to the characters instead of sackboy but that would require a redo plus more creative thinking on how sackboy could possibly complete it.
Basically, I was wondering on other peoples thoughts. Which would you prefer in a level, or is there a better option? It's really not a big deal but its simple enough that its worth looking into. thanks

So your Sackboy is smaller then a sacbot you made? Odd, When a sackbot is put into the level its should be the same size as your sackboy. Unless your Sackboy is buged or somthing. Try getting another player so you can compare (Dum go compare) uh sorry, stupid advert. anyway. So you can compare the size of your sackboy to another players sackboy to see if their is any height difrence.2011-07-25 11:07:00

No its not sackbots. It's from LBP1. I fixed the pic I originally put in, not sure why it was broken. Anyway, this isn't a major gameplay problem. Just a minor storyline-ish design flaw. I was wondering if anyone would even notice or care about the diference when it comes to playing the platforming aspect of the level.2011-07-25 17:48:00

I'd say 99% of the time it's better to let the gameplay dictate the scale of the visuals rather than the other way round, so build to accommodate the player and adjust the visuals as best you can.2011-07-25 18:11:00

I would say completely ignore it. Players won't question why the obstacles are so much smaller than the soldiers. They'll just play the level and enjoy it.2011-07-26 04:10:00

I agree.
This kind of design is normal in LBP, (for example MM's characters) and unless you highlight it, no one will notice.
