PS3 Dead. Just dead.

Archive: 18 posts

So, I was playing on my PS3, for about 15 minutes, then all of the sudden, It turns off. No warning beeps, no loud cooling fan, nothing. There is no standby light when I plug it in. pushing the power button does nothing. Its as if it is not plugged in at all. It had been over 8 hours since I had last played it. It has never been opened before and is only 9 month old.

I'm pretty sure that you cannot redownload the games from the welcome back package, which would mean that I would lose LBP.

Sorry to hear about the PS3. I'm not sure what could be wrong with it.

I do know that the Welcome Back games can be redownloaded though. I just recently tried to download InFamous again. (Which I had to delete AGAIN because it's too large for my 40GB PS3)

That's good to know. Still means that my 100% prizes and 100% aces are gone now...

Tried a different power cord, to no avail.

I suggest taking it apart and looking at the wires that connect to the power switch. Make sure they are all in tight, something may have been loose and just disconnected.

^^ If you do so you have to keep in mind that your warranty is broken is you do that.

Power outage? Try checking the fuse on the plug for the PS3. It might not be dead, might just require a change?2011-07-24 23:21:00

If it's 9 months old the warenty will still be active so use it to sort out whatever the problem is.2011-07-24 23:33:00

Not a power outage. Lights didn't dim, and the TV and other electronics remained on.

I just put in a service order, since it was under warranty. I'm just not happy about losing my save files, levels I spent weeks on, and having to wait over a month to get a PS3 back. On top of that, I'll be receiving LBP2 in the mail probably tomorrow, just to sit there and tease me.

QUESTION: When I get my PS3 back and reinstall LBP (under the same PSN account), will I be able to reclaim my published levels to copy back to the moon? I already know that any unpublished levels are gone. It will be a clean reinstall, without any backed up data files. I would REALLY hate to lose my Terminator level that I spent weeks crafting and tweaking.

If you sign in as your current PSN account, then I believe so.

Sorry about your PS3.

you will still have your published levels stay. This is because it puts the levels on your PSN account. But sadly, levels that you were working on will disappear. Published levels can be copied back into your new PS3's Hard disk drive.2011-07-25 03:16:00

Oh, man, that is so good to hear! None of my other levels were even close to fruition, so I'm not so upset about them. But still, a whole month or more...ouch.

man, so sorry to hear about your ps3. When you get your new one, make sure to regularly do backups to a usb. I backup weekly unless I make significant changes then I backup immediately.2011-07-25 04:53:00

O_O OMG. I need to backup my files before something happens like this to me. Sorry about your PS3 though. :/ BTW if you have your PS3 in a small compact area, that can sometimes cause problems, especially if there are other heated devices too close to it like an Xbox or theater system. Also another thing, make sure you're not keeping your PS3 in a dusty place. I had a problem where the fan on my PS3 kept on sucking up dust around it since I hadn't cleaned there in like year. Luckily I found out that was happening and cleaned it before anything serious happened.2011-07-25 08:43:00

Yeah, you can reels load welcome back stuff, as long as you had it before. And, sorry about your PS3, I know how hard it is, one of my commuters did that, and I lost a school report that I had worked on for about 2 weeks, without a backup.2011-07-25 15:16:00

Okay, so I thought that I would give it a last shot today, and plug it in one more time...and it came on! I didn't do anything different with it. I'm taking the opportunity now to backup everything, in case it craps out again. hopefully, it doesn't die again!

PS - Thanks to the mod who moved this to the appropriate forum. I'm a n00b here.

YLOD, or like my problem, no standby light? If you're not even getting a standby light, just unplug your system and wait 24 hours, then plug it in. That somehow worked for me.
