Blue Moon Mice take to the Sky

Archive: 6 posts

I'm still rather new here. Please be kind

Here are a few (horrible quality) screenshots from my first published level - Blue Moon Mice take to the Sky! I wanted to make something in the spirit of the game. A fun level with some trickiness, but not exceedingly difficult. Feedback here or on LBP itself would be appreciated.

Not too bad, I had fun with it. I think the level was at it's best once you get off the ground and into the sky. I did have a few issues with the bouncing clouds. Occasionally they wouldn't bounce very well at all. I'm not sure why. Also, during your tornado sequence, the tornado past right by me and didn't hurt me at all. I'd suggest making it a real threat to run from!

I think for your first level this is pretty good. You had a little bit of story, your own style, and some decent platforming. Good job!

I had a chnace to check this out the other day and I will say that for a first level it is a great effort. You had a story (always a good thing), some custom content (always a good thing) and the overall polish was great (you even decorated your scorboard, well done). My suggestions would be to make everything custom (your already half-way there, why not go the extra mile?) and to be a little more careful in your material selection. You want to make sure that any materials you use fit your theme/atmosphere/story. The level was very light-hearted and easy which can be both a positive/negative depending on the player (personally I like a bit more of a challenge). Ultimately I think our first levels are tremendous learning experiences and you will only get better as time goes on (this applies to all creators). Good job and I look forward to future creations. 2008-12-20 01:42:00

OCK,

Thanks for the encouragement. It was quite a learning experience. The next two in the series were even more educational, as they are heavily mechanical.

I wanted this level to be reasonably easy and lighthearted, with the real challenge coming from getting a good score. There are a few hidden bubbles, some hard to reach ones, and others given as a reward for outracing the tornado.

But I'm curious as to what you meant about the materials? I'm guessing you mean the white wood paneling for the clouds, but I chose that quite on purpose. And any suggestions as to what else should be made custom?

I just gave a roll to your entire saga and I agree with OCK, you have to choose your materials more carefully.

EP.1
- Why don't you change the lightning material into glass and sticker it with white/yellow/blue?
- I grabbed a cloud near the race gate and overcame it without actually starting the race! Maybe you should place the gate just before the big clouds.

+ Liked the idea to give some exra point in catching the cheese from the owls' claws

EP. 2
- No cons at all except the moving corridor is a little slow (IMO), speed up it a little...

+ Found it very very very creative and have no idea on how to make such a thing

Ep. 3
- Again I found some of the material (like base stone) won't fit at all...
- I know it is so maybe for playing space needs but the cockpit oof the space ship disappointed me...
- You can use invisible pistons for the floating asteroids

+ Impressed and amazed a lot, really creative

Hearted all the levels and, obviously, the author

I norticed a consistant improvement from level to level, so if I were you I would consider the option to handling a little bit with older episodes.

I believe that is "ingenious" in English
