Bill S.978..... WTF

Archive: 7 posts

for those of you that do not know, this new bill will make anything that shows copywrited work or meterial, ILLEGAL! so the sackboy smileys... illegal, the pictures at the top of the website... illegal, gaming vids or pictures for our avatars using our sackboys... illegal. its awfull in my book. and we get to thank the movie and film industries for making a big stink about pirating, dont get me wrong im against pirating, but really guys? any who its the wording of the bill thats awfull, espeicelly because of how abusive it is. heres the thing, this thing has made it to congress, and HAS NOT been edited. thats kind of scary. i mean half of you tube would half to be taken down, and its not like gaming industries can just not press charges the state will force punnishment. as a matter of fact the gaming industrie could lose money on this bill, seeing as i, and many others, actually like to review games before buying. this... is bad people!2011-07-23 10:08:00

My friend keeps going on and on about this. Can anyone clarify if all this is really true? It sounds pretty ridiculous, as if people have stretched the truth a bit.2011-07-23 13:58:00

As far as I know, that isn't going to copywright half the internet. First, the developers or publishers must have an interest in taking the stuff down. (and for videogames that doesn't make sense, because it's free advertising). I heard that it applies more to streamed content on the internet, like music and TV broadcasts.2011-07-23 14:07:00

That's what I was thinking. Everyone's saying Let's Plays will be taken down, but I would've thought they'd be good advertising. Seeing someone play the game and sound like they're enjoying themselves sounds like good advertising to me.

This is a load of crap.

It's the usual Americans making a huge show out of nothing.

You don't see us Europeans giving a hoot, do you?

Please see the existing thread here (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=59247-Senate-Bill-S.978-may-be-the-end-of-LBP-videos). Also, it doesn't do any of the things you think it will. 2011-07-23 22:02:00
